CFA 2. Red Stars' reserves, a team made up largely of youngsters lost 4-3 at Saint-Quentin, despite being three-nil up after fourty minutes. Dobrzynski (50) pulled one back, then what appeared to be the turning point came with the dismissal of Red Stars' Ryad Fellahi. Meanwhile Vincent Guérin is in light training, but can't play anyway until the FFF decide on his suspension.

Coupe Gambardella

RESERVES AT SAINT-QUENTIN, CFA 2. In the Aisne, Alain Bornands' reserve team will be trying to gain their first win of the season. This will not be easy for the reserves, as Saint-Quentin, relegated last season from the CFA will be looking to bounce back to the higher level. The started with an excellent 5-2 win over Douai before slipping to a 1-0 defeat at Châlons-en-Champagne. Last season, whilet in charge of Red Stars' under-17s, Alain Bornand beat Saint-Quentin in the Coupe Gambardella. Several of his team that day have now progressed on to the CFA 2 side. Other games in the CFA 2 this weekend are : Aubervilliers – Sedan, Chantilly – Châlons-en-Champagne, Chaumont – Cambrai, Moissy-Cramayel – Saint-Dizier, Senlis – Reims, Marly – Ivry, Créteil – Douai. Photo - Saint Quentin v Red Star, Coupe Gambardella 2001.
RED STAR – AVION. The match referee will be Franck Guillon assisted by Youssef Bouyanoui and Bernard Meunier.
BOUMENDJEL OUT. Just after returning to regular training, Boumendjel has succumbed to another injury. He will miss therefore the Avion game this weekend. Meanwhile, the visitors have reinforced their side with a new recruit, Nigerian Blessad Aniefiok, a midfielder. He made his debut, coming on as a sub in the game against Lens.
Samuel Boutal PIZZO OFF TO A WINNING START. Mickaël Pizzo got off to a great start with his new club Kilmarnock. Pizzo scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win over St Johnstone. After the game, his manager, Bobby Williamson said : "He [Pizzo] works very hard at his game and has a lot of ability and I'm sure that he will make a big impact on the Scottish game."
Also hitting the headlines for his performance the other side of the Channel is former Red Star man Samuel Boutal, pictured, scorer of two goals in Troyes' memorable 4-4 draw with Newcastle, a result that puts the Troyens into the draw for the UEFA cup. On a more modest scale, Thierry Saxemard has joined CFA 2 outfit Mâcon.

ONE PRICE FOR THE AVION GAME. For the game at home to Avion, Jean-Claide Bras and the club have announced that there will be one fixed priced, 30FRF. However, only the TinCanStand opposite the main stand will be open for the real supporters. Son let's have as many as possible at the game, to express our disenchantment at the currrent stae of affairs at Red Star 93. Abstention never changed things, so to all those who stay away, get back, your club needs you !

Red Stars' lack of killer instinct in front of gaols let them down in a hard-fought derby. Falling behind quickly to a lob from Hamoum, Red Stars' youngsters were forced to chase the game and were killed off by a second goal midway through the second period.
Nono Piedjou Not helped in any way by some dubious refereeing, neither. Still, more than 100 turned out at the Stade Néruda, including Walid Aïchour, fresh from success with his new club Noisy-le-Sec, Djebrane Abda, still looking for a club and François Gil, former Red Star academy coach now occupying a similar position with Paris SG. Photo : Nono Piedjou
OTHER CFA 2 SCORES. Reims – Chaumont 3-1, Cambrai – Créteil 3-1, Douai – Senlis 1-1, Sedan –Moissy-Cramayel 0-0, Saint-Dizier – Marly 2-2, Châlons-en-Champagne – Saint-Quentin 1-0, Ivry – Chantilly 4-1.
BOLSTER THE DEFENCE. Following the reversal at Valenciennes, Red Stars' first team coach Jean-Luc Girard told the press "Valenciennes is a good team with the same objectives as us, promotion. We gifted away a goal after twenty seconds and a second after ten, minutes, our defence is too slack, we can't get results. My squad is likely to change. Defensive wise, that's no surprise."
Mickaël Pizzo MICKAEL PIZZO JOINS KILMARNOCK. Former Red Star midfielder has signed with Scottish club Kilmarnock, who finished fourth last season in the Scottish Premier League. He will link up with other "Frenchies" there - Jérôme Vareille, Frédéric Dindeleux and Davia Mady. DEFEAT AT VALENCIENNES. Red Star again lose in "closed doors" game. After last seasons' 5-0 humiliation at home to Clermont, Red Star this time went down 3-1 at Valenciennes. Despite the debuts of two youngsters, Santos and Sarrea, the home side proved too strong for the visitors. Other than Red Star being disappointed at the decision to shut the ground to the public, the biggest losers were perhaps the VA supporters, who last week took 150 to the away derby at Avion.
Vincent Guerin VINCENT GUERIN AT FORT BOYARD. Meanwhile, those "locked out" of the Stade Nungesser could follow one of Red Stars' players on TV... not in footballing action, however, but as part of the popular TV Game "Fort Boyard". Captained by ex-PSG team-mate and all-round nice guy, Raï as well as a rugby player, a couple of girl singers and Miss France, Vince (pictured on the right) did his best to raise cash for the association "Gol de letra", to help poor Brazillian kids.

Updated 17th August

VALENCIENNES. Don't forget that Saturdays' game at Valenciennes is to be played behind closed doors. This could be of an advantage to Red Star, as the normally large crowds at the Stade Nungesser are worth a goal start to the home side. The ground is closed following incidents during last seasons' game with GFCO Ajaccio, when the referee that evening was allegedly showered with gravel. Red Star will wear green at Valenciennes, where their hosts normally wear red. It appears that last seasons' experiment in getting the club back in green was a short-lived affair; the club have announced that this season the color will be red. The match referee will be STEPHANE MEMBERT, assisted by Ludovic Willems and Marc Turchor.
Fabrice Mary FABRICE BACK. Fabrice Mary (photo), made his come-back against Viry, his first appearance in the starting line-up since the end of the season 1999-2000. He has fought his way back after a series of injuries.
AZIZ BELISSAOUI. Former Red Star man Aziz Belissaoui is currently on trial with Clermont. Last term he scored four times with Istres. Meanwhile, Camille Opongas' career appears to be over; a knee injury appears to have curtailed what was turing out to be a bright career. He now turns his attention to coaching youngsters, and we wish Camille all the best for the future.
Another ex-Red Star defender, Jozsef Keller is currently plying his trade in his home country of Hungary. Our correspondant in Hungary Olivier met up with Keller, and the resulting interview will shortly appear on this site.
OOPS WE NEARLY FORGOT ! . As well as being sidelined with an injury, some dpubts concern Vincent Guérins' rights to play football - don't forget that he was convicted of taking banned substances, a charge he denies, and still hasn't served his full period of suspension (six months). On the 24th August the FFF will decide as to the duration of any suspension.

GOOD NEWS - OR JUST MORE BRAS-SPEAK ?. On Tuesday morning, our correspondant had a frank exchange of views with Red Star president, Jean-Claude Bras, who was accompanied by the future club president, ex-Marseille man Jean-Michel Roussier. One of the outcomes of this impromptu meeting was that Red Star will be back at Bauer for the start of 2002, and there remain only eight more games at Marville. Bras "announced" the re-opening of the two side stands at Bauer, one for the VIPSs, the other for the supporters. Time will tell as the the accuracy of this latest announcement.
UNLUCKY. Vincent Guérin, on the road back from injury pulled up during a jogging session with a calf muscle injury.
RED STAR – AUBERVILLIERS. Sunday sees the second league outing for the reserves in the CFA 2 with a local derby versus Aubervilliers at the Stade Pablo Neruda, Saint-Ouen.

LOCKED OUT (CONT...) After being locked out of the main stand for the first home game of the season, Red Stars' long-suffering supporters will have to forgo another game... don't bother making the trip to Valenciennes, as their ground has been closed for one match following incidents last season in the National.

Updated 13th August

LOCKED OUT !. Following relegation from the National to the CFA, relations between the club and its' supporters have been somewhat tense... now the long-suffering fans have received yet another kick in the teeth from the management... the main stand has been "closed" to ordinary paying supporters, and is hereby reserved for VIPs, sponsors and guests. On Saturday a handful of so priviliged sat in the 3000 capacity stand and watched Red Star give away a last minute goal to lose 2-1 to Viry-Châtillon. Those locked out refused to pay to go into the "TinCan" stand opposite, and voiced their displeasure by watching the encounter from outside the fences !
Jean-Claude Bras - Muppet Worse, none of Bras' cronies even bothered to com over and explain the decision to the supporters. Bras simply stated to the guy in charge of the ticketting (an outside company) "I have decided". So, the Red Star fans, sick and tired of being shat upon yet again, voiced their displeasure. Shouts of "Bras resign" and "Free the stadium" were heard throughout the game. Some fans drifted off home, perhaps never to return to Marville again. Others said that they will not come back to Marville, but will travel to away matches, where they can "Watch the game from whichever stand we like".
Even more ridiculous - a fan turned up five minutes before the kick-off, cash in hand and willing to pay, only to be told by the ticket people that there were no tickets left for the game !!! (Not enough printed, so it appears). Whatever, the fan showed his solidarity with the others by watching the game from outside the ground.
NEWS. Red Star played in red again, another Bras decision it seems to piss the fans off. The club appears to be growing into a personal vendetta between Bras against the fans. Despite the defeat, captain Franck Busuttil is still confident and said that the players will turn things around, it will not be like last season.
Alain Bornand RESERVES. After taking one or two canings in pre-season friendlies, the reserves got off to a good start, bringing a draw back from pre-season favourites Moissy-Cramayel. A boost for new coach Alain Bornand (pictured).

Vincent Guérin

VINCENT GUERIN. Former Paris Saint-Germain and French international midfielder born 22nd November 1965, at Boulogne-Billancourt (92), has joined Red Star 93.
Following his debuts in Paris local football with Joinville-le-Pont, Vincent Guérin joined Brest at the age of 18. He took part in the Bretons' first ever D1 game in 1984 against Tours, before moving on to Matra Racing (88-89), then Montpellier (89-92) before effectively ending his career with Paris SG.
His last days at PSG were marked by doping allegations, a charge which the player strongly denies.
His honours reads : Champion d'Europe under-21s 1988, Coupe de France winners 1990, with Kader Ferhaoui, Eric Cantona and Laurent Blanc (Montpellier), Champion de France 1994, League Cup 1995 and Cup-Winners Cup in 1996. In 1995 he was elected Footballer of the Year by France Football magazine, ahead of such luminaries as Djorkaeff, Loko, Pédros and Zidane.
DIEPPE. Our correspondant Olivier approached Jean-Claude Bras at the end of the game and asked two pertinant questions.
Is this your group to tackle the championship ?"
"Nearly, I'm confident, you'll see" (3 times)
You are an eternal optimist ?
"You'll see"
Note that his answers were given before the signing of Vincent Guérin
RECRUITS. A player has joined Red Star from Normandy club Bihorel : Boncoeur.
MORAD EL OTHMANI. Former Red Star defender is currently on trial with CFA club Poissy. If signed he will link up with former Audonien Laurent Delanoue.

Ville Andersson

DIEPPE – RED STAR. Our correspondants Olivier, Pierre and Antoine were present at Dieppe for yesterday evenings' friendly game, and they sent us their report on proceedings.
In a stadium with a country feel to it, around three hundred witnessed the game. Before the kick-off Olivier spoke to Red Stars' coach, Jean-Luc Girard. On new recruit, the Finn Ville Andersson (photo) who missed the game with a slight injury, Girard said "... he is a player which should bring much to the team, in terms of ball-winning." Gigi also confirmed that the former Enköping player will be on the starting line on the 11th of August.
Despite the result, a 3-1 defeat, Red Star were on a par with Dieppe, who had beaten Rouen the previous weekend. In the first ten minutes Dieppe threatened and opened the score through Baticle. Just before the break Busuttil fed Arthur Gomis with a pass and the latter equalised. In the second half a dodgy penalty awarded to the home side enabled them to retake the lead, then extended futher their advantage. Red Star could have pulled a goal back, but new recruit Sissokho shot tamely at the goalkeeper from the penalty spot. He was also guilty of wasting three one-on-ones with the home goalkeeper, whilst at the other end, Bruneau didn't need to make a save, and only found employment in picking the ball out of the net three times.
Perron only played for the first few minutes, and was substituted more through caution than through real injury.
Red Star : Bruneau, Pendola, N'Goma, Perron, R. Gomis, Boumedjel, Busuttil, Saïti, A. Gomis, Sabin, Sissokho, Le Pape, Guidali, Gomes-Varela, Azoulay and Sorreau.
FOR ONCE. Jean-Claude Bras, Red Stars' president was actually there for the game, alongside General Manager Christian Duraincie.
ROBERT PINTENAT. Former Red Star man (1971-73) is recovering after major surgery. We wish him a speedy recovery.
FROM THE ARCHIVES. In 1913, at the Stade de Saint-Ouen, Red Star (in the stripes) played and lost to English club Tottenham Hotspur (1-2).

CLASH OF THE GIANTS ?. On Saturday September 22nd, two games have been programmed for Stade Marville - Noisy-le-Sec v Pau, in the National and Red Star v Strasbourg, in the CFA. Also, on the 1st December, Noisy-le-Sec are at home to Calais and Red Star have a derby game against Les Lilas. Will they play the game as double headers ? We'll have to wait and see.
Loïc Le Pape DIRECTION DIEPPE. Tonight, in the suburbs of Dieppe, Red Star play their last-but-one friendly game. Dieppe are about to embark on their second season in the CFA, after finishing twelfth last season. Top scorer is Sébastien Tannai (9) and the side features Mickaël Baticle, brother of Metzs' Gérard Baticle. Photo : Loïc Le Pape, arrival from Thouars at Red Star 93. © Le Brech
