FEBRUARY 2002 NEWS ARCHIVE  RED STAR 93

DOUBTS. The awful weather over the last fews days has cast a doubt as to whether the game on Sunday between Strasbourg and Red Star will go ahead or not. In D 2, the re-arranged game between the first team of Strasbourg and Istres will have to be rescheduled yet again following postponement. More to follow...
ALSO THIS WEEKEND. Following last Sundays defeat against INF Clairefontaine, Red Stars' under-15s are due to meet their counterparts from Strasbourg at the Ile des Vannes on Sunday 3rd March at 3pm CET. The under-17s travel to Lens on Saturday (3pm CET), at the Stade Debeyre.

STADE BAUER. Good news - the work on the "Bauer" stand at Saint-Ouen is due to start in March. Four years after their departure from the legendary stadium, Red Star hope to kick off the season 2002-2003 back where they belong.

Stade Bauer

NAUGHTY BOYS. Franck Busuttils' sending off against Raon brings the seasons' total of red cards to eight. Leading the way in this shameful table is Robert Gomis who has warmed the showers up three times, followed by Franck Busuttil two and Enis Saïti, Cédric Sabin and Sarambounou one each.
CLOT. One of the other Red Star unofficial sites carried a banner headline reporting that a site "www.allezredstar93.com" (sic) had reported along with Le Parisien that Sabin was the scorer of Red Stars' goal on Saturday. We believe that he has got things mixed up a tad, firstly because the site he mentioned does not exist - it is a mix of our site and the official site (www.redstar93.fr). Secondly we reported that it was an own goal - the official site credited the goal to Sabin. Finally, his match report was lifted directly from Le Parisien so he reported that Sabin was the scorer after all ! Normally he rips off our match reports, anyway ! At least for once he was actually at the game.
RESERVES NEWS. The postponement of Red Stars' game against Chaumont means that the reserves hit rock bottom of the CFA 2 after Saint-Dizier forced a draw this weekend. At the bottom the table reads : Châlons 34 pts (17 matches), Chantilly 33 pts (18), Saint-Dizier 27 pts (15) and Red Star 27 pts (16). Next Sunday the reserves are at Reims (6th).
Other results : Châlons-en-Champagne – Moissy-Cramayel 0-2, Saint-Dizier – Saint-Quentin 0-0, Douai – Reims 3-4, Chantilly – Marly 0-3, Créteil – Sedan 1-2, Cambrai – Senlis postponed.
JOSZEF KELLER. Reports are reaching us from our Hungarian correspondant the former Red Star man Joszef Keller has been appointed assistant coach of first division outfit Ferencvaros

RETOUR ET ABSENCE. Cédric Sabin made his return into the starting line-up, but his place in the Red Star sick bay has been taken by Moussa Dagnogo, injured whilst training last week.
VILLE ANDERSON. The Finnish midfielder, although listed as being in the fourteen picked, failed to make an appearance Saturday.
Franck Busuttil MORE RED CARDS. After having gone through a spell where Red Star ended a few matches with less than a full complement on the pitch, the recent impreovment in discipline has fallen back a little in the last two games, with firstly Robert Gomis receiving his marching orders against Troyes, now Franck Busuttil (photo) was constrained to take an early bath on Saturday. Which means that for the trip to Strasbourg, both Franck Busittil (automatic suspension) and Robert Gomis (two more games) will be absent.
ATMOSPHERES.. Another poor turn out on an awful day - only 80 or so spectators in each stand, but nevertheless the hardy faithful made enough noise to make up. Interesting to point out that none of the three unofficial Red Star 93 sites had their webmaster present at the game - although this one had an excuse and we did have our chief contributor Gérard present ! Raon brought a handful of supporters and left totally disappointed, not only with the result but with the shit stand, the dirty seats and the lack of half-time food and drink. On behalf of the Red Star supporters, we extend our apologies to our counterparts from Raon, but remember, we have to put up with these crappy conditions week in week out...!
NEXT HOME GAME. Lens are the next visitors to Marville, Saturday 9th March at 7pm CET.
PROPAGANDA. "La lettre du Red Star" was handed out to spectators. Unfortunately we can't tell you exactly what was in it, as printed on it was the message "All reproduction of the articles contained in this bulletin is forbidden without the permission of the authors". Fine, we don't care as it isn't worth the effort anyway. Besides, it will probably be put on the web by one of the other unofficial Red Star sites who doesn't appear to give a monkeys' about copyright anyway. More importantly, AllezRedStar.com published a rather smart mini-match programme, with quite a lot of information thereupon anyway. (No doubt that will be ripped off too !)
PHILIPPE SCHUTH. Our condolencies to the family and friends of Nancy and ex-Gueugnon goalkeeper Philippe Schuth who has died from injuries received recently in a car accident. He played on several occasions at the Stade Bauer, and also was reserve goalkeeper in Gueugnons' famous penalty shoot-out win in the League Cup semi-final two years ago.

OFFICIALS. The Troyes v Red Star game will be refereed by Antony Gautier (Ligue du Nord Pas de Calais), age 24, who has been an official since the tender age of 15 ! His assitants will be Jean-Yves Fraipont & Jérôme Jourdain. Incidentally, the last time Red Star played at the Stade de l'Aube, they lost 3-1 in a game at the top of D2 early in the season 1998-99. Red Star went on to be relegated whilst Troyes are currently enjoying life in the first division. Read the match report
CFA 2. On Sunday afternoon at the Stade Duvauchelle, 3pm CET Red Star reserves play their counterparts of Créteil. A victory is imperative if they are to survive the drop from the CFA 2. Other games : Moissy-Cramayel (1st) v Ivry (2&nd), Saint-Quentin – Chantilly, Aubervilliers – Saint-Dizier, Senlis – Sedan, Chaumont – Douai, Marly – Châlons-en-Champagne, Reims – Cambrai.
MANUEL ABREU FIRED. Calais (National) have parted company with their coach, former Red Star player (season 77-78) Manuel Abreu. Fourteen defeats in 23 and only nine draws was the reason for the ex-Reims coaches departure.

Tony Cascarino

MAIL FROM COLIN. Dear John, Just a quick note to let you know how much I enjoy your Red Star website. Although I speak reasonable French I tune in to your superb English version ,which I find very chatty and informative. I am fascinated by the English connection at the club with yourself and your new President. How did you come to get involved and how long have you been a supporter? What did you think of Tony Cascarino (pictured)? Final question---sorry to be so inquisitive-- Do the club produce a match programme or a bulletin,if so I would like to obtain a copy.
Well, Colin, thanks for the mail, as for a programme, relations between the club and it's long-suffereing supporters are at a low, so there hasn't been a programme as such since the last season at Bauer, and then it was only sporadic. Having said that, before the Vesoul game we (www.allezredstar.com) produced a pamphlet airing our opinions, and lo and behold at the next home game versus Valenciennes the club produced a hand-out. We have put bits of it on the site (www.multimania.com/jwh/archives/fr_rantf.htm - in French only for the moment).
Now that we have an English president, we wonder if he'll actually come and read BOTH version of the site ? Either way, he is more than welcome to make a contribution to this site, in the interests of right to reply !!!

The winner is Jaknin. Not only did he give the six correct replies, but he also predicted correctly a one-nil win for Red Star against Lille. Winners will be notified by e-mail.

TOP !. Red Star go to the top of the league after their fantastic win over rivals Valenciennes. With the other results going their way, Red Star have a two point advantage over Lille, who lost, Lens lost at home to Red Stars' next opponents Avion, Viry-Châtillon beat Raon-l'Etape and Vesoul lost too.
So all in all a good weekend. Apart from Red Star cruelly sacking secretary Anissa, who was always there to help the supporters...she has vowed never to set foot in Marville again.
Red Stars' missing fans have started to drift back to watch them, now that they're back on the winning trail again - in additon the visitors brought quite a few fans with them too, which made for quite an atmosphere. Generally good, apart from one Red Star follower, who we haven't seen so far this season, who crowned his return by trying to upset the VA fans, taunting them with Glassman remarks - he was saved from a good kicking by the other Red Star fans.
On entering the ground, the club handed out a pamphlet to the supporters, possibly in reply to the paper handed out by AllezRedStar.com in the last home game against Vesoul. In the interests of democracy and fairness we'll put both of these on the site.
HABIB SISSOKHO. Following physiotherapy at Cap Breton, after an operation, Red Stars' striker is back in the Paris area getting back to fitness.
Stade Bauer STADE BAUER NEWS. The work to renovate the new stand should begin in early March. Other improvements are planned, in order to allow the playing of matches next season. The stand alongside the pitch, the "Club 93" will also have work carried out on it, and this will normally be reserved for VIPs and other guests. The loyal fans will have to do with going behind one goal, which is better than nothing !!! The old derssing rooms should be renovated, and if all goes well, Red Star should be back playing games in the National, at Stade Bauer in 2002-2003 ! Note that the local council have just completed work on improvements to the local swimming pool at a cost of € 7,62 M.
CFA 2 LOSE AGAIN. Beaten 0-1, at Saint-Ouen in the CFA 2, Red Star are getting nearer and nearer to relegation.
INJURED AGAIN. Moreau made his début in colours of Red Star with the reserve, only to limp off injured again... back to square one...
