DECEMBER 2002 NEWS ARCHIVE  RED STAR 93

Updated 24th December

>WINTER BREAK. The CFA 2 is on holiday now until January 11th, when the Red Star have an important trip to the east of France to play Chaumont. The site, however, will still be updated. Anyway, wherever you are and whoever you are, AllezRedStar.com would like to extend seasons' greeting to you all, thank you for your loyalty to the site in 2002, hope to see you all back in 2003. On a personal note, I've written to Santa to ask him for a change of management at Red Star, the departure of those guilty of nearly killing the club and that fortunes take an upturn at Saint-Ouen. Realistically, however, I've more chance of Santa bringing me the Ferrari I asked for...
DEPARTURE. Top scorer Lassana Doumbya has quit Red Star, possible direction Italy and the club Modene, where his former team-mate at Red Star Kamara is plying his trade.

ABSENTS. Missing on Saturday were regular goalkeeper Bousseliou, his place taken by reserve team custodian Bensassi, whilst Delaneuville (injured), Sylla (dropped) also missed the 1-1 draw. This left places for goalscorer Kébé and striker Mongin.
WATCHING. Interested vistors to Stade Bauer were former players Robert Pintenat, recovering after several operations, and Samuel Michel, on holiday. Two strikers from different generations, but both having left indelible marks on the history of Red Star.
ECHOS. Finally the Faithful had the right to hear the PA system on Saturday, although one still had to strain one's ear in order to hear anything clearly. Still some progress to be made there. To counterbalance this, however, the scoreboard didn't show that the visitors were winning 1-0 until later on in the game. No ballboys, either - meaning that the players often had a long trot to retrieve wayward shots.
Our beloved club produced the usual propaganda sheet, distributed free to the spectators. The Faithful were reassured to know that at last the editorial team of this rag have found the reason behind Red Stars' appalling slide into the depths - yes, the whole reason behind the problems is the press. Of course it is clearly marked in the bulletin that reproduction, of their material is prohibited, and being a nice site we wouldn't dream of breaching this, but translation isn't clearly defined, so to give a summary of more or less what they said, they state that the press must be rubbing their hands at the clubs' current misfortunes, having something to write about. Hmm. Well, this particular branch of the "press" doesn't take any particular pleasure in watching the club slide incompetantly into oblivion. Easy to blindly lash out at "unspecified" target, isn't it ?? Change the record, please !
In fairness to coach Mustapha Ousfane, he gives his viewpoint elsewhere in the bulletin, thanking the supporters for their encouragements at Bauer and on away trips. At least someone appreciates us.
Meanwhile the rival bulletin distributed by the supporters' organisations is just as popular as ever, and gives a more realistic view on events, without resorting to mud slinging.
On the subject of the press, it was noted on Saturday that a gentleman representing the press of Orléans had one or two problems in gaining access to the stadium. He finally got to do his job after a telephone call to one of the club directors of Orléans.
COUPE GAMBARDELLA. End of the road for Red Stars' youngster, going out 2-4 at Thionville.

RESERVES DRAW. Red Stars' reserves came close to pulling off a great win on Sunday against Paris SG reserves. On a heavy pitch made worse by the pouring rain, Red Star opened the scoring through a counter-attack, Mongin beating the visitors' goalkeeper. Just before the break, Gheribi came close to doubling the advantrage, but his free kick rattled the bar. After the break it was one-way traffic and the visitors drew level through Bacoul with seven minutes to go.

UNDER 14S. A good win for one of Red Stars' junior sides, beating Chauny 7-1
DIOMANSY KAMARA. Followers of Italys' Serie A may have heard the name Diomansy Kamara mentioned. Hailing from Gennevilliers, aged 22, after making his debuts with the local club, he joined Red Star at the age of twelve along with his friend Lassana Doumbya, currently Red Stars' top scorer. At 18 years, Kamara displayed his qualities and scored twenty goals for Red Stars' third XI in the DSR. Just at that moment Red Stars' fall from grace started and the free-scoring youngster chose Italy in which to further his career. Firstly in the D 4, at Catanzaro, then, quickly adapting himself to the Italian game, moving to Chievo Verone, newly promoted to Serie A. Loaned out shortly afterwards to Serie B side Modene, he played twenty five games, scroing five goals and participating in the clubs promotion to Serie A. Man of the match this season against Juventus, his talents have brought him to the attention of Milan AC. Senegalese by birth, he should shortly be called up for national duties. Another star, product of Red Star.
Frédéric Darras REIMS v RED STAR. Despite openeing the scoring after twenty seven seconds on Sunday, Red Star went down 3-1 to a stronger Reims reserves side strengthened by one or two first-team players. A lowly turn-out for the game, only 45 paying spectators, of which just one was supporting the visitors. Thanks to Frédéric, a true supporter for the match details. Incidentally, the match took place at the ground of another Reims club, Ecole de Sport Reims Sainte-Anne Carnot Châtillon, who play in the DH, and whose coach is none other than ex-Red Star and Swindon Town man Frédéric Darras.
Missing for Red Star was top scorer Lassana Doumbya and so Fissirou led the line for the visitors. Also, making his debuts for the first team was ex-Poissy striker, Carl Priso Yaya.
CHAMPIONNAT DE FRANCE. The Under 16s, lost 1-0 at Metz, whereas the Gambardella Cup match at Thionville was postponed due to an unplayable pitch.

SATURDAYS' GAME. Great atmosphere in the second half at Bauer on Saturday. The performance given by Red Stars' youngsters brought appreciation from the Faithful, whose encouragements brought greater effort from the players. Lets' have more of that, please lads !!
Also present in the stands were injured and suspended Red Star players, including the injured Pascal Cossec. The young defender, who joined the club from Mondeville after starting his career as a junior with Red Star hopes to back in action soon after a two-month lay-off. Also present was striker Philippe Marques - a top bloke who has no hesitiation in talking to the fans and shaking their hands.
A match played in a good spirit, with very few bookings and only one potential flashpoint when Julien Carles became entangled with a Roye striker - luckily the referee was right on hand at that moment, intervening physically to separate the warring factions, before things got out of hand. A touch of commensense, and both players only received yellow cards. Good refereeing, keeps the entertainment going.
At the end of the match, coach Mustapha Ousfane urged his players to go over to the stand where the Red Star supporters were "amassed" to thank them for their support. A nice touch, not seen for a long time, and much appreciated by the fans. No doubt the club management won't have been too impressed by this ! By the way, still no PA announcements at Bauer - either the system has a problem somewhere, or it can be switched on only in certain parts of the stadium, specifically those parts not occupied by the Faithful. The lack of announcements was the sign for one Red Star supporter of long-standing to rise, and personally shout out the names of the Red Star players, to which the fans cheered loudly as each name was called out.
As usual, the supporters handed out a programme with an editorial concerning the current plight of the club, but the official bulletin carried no information whatsoever on the situation, preferring to concentrate on the days' visitors, whom we are informed have 260 club members.
Just before the kick-off, a plume of white smoke was seen from the chimney of the Bauer stand - one wag observed that either the club had elected a new president or that a new Pope had been elected. Either way, both Bras and the chap at the Vatican have been in power for more or less the same length of time, and neither look likely to relinquish their positions !
TROUBLE AT T'MILL. Red Stars' directors will be invited this week to argue their case in front of an industrial tribunal, in the case of unfair dismissal. Next week they renew their acquaintance with the courts over the affair of the former educators and coaching staff still awaiting their salary payments. Elsewhere, last week some of Red Stars' assets went under the auctioneers' hammer. The weight training material bought only two years aga went to the highest bidder....
POSTPONED. Red Stars' reserve game against Versailles in the DH was postponed. In the other games, Red Stars' under 16 went down at home to Strasbourg 4-1; the under 14s lost against Quevilly 1-0.
