LOUIS FERNANDEZ AT RED STAR ? Incredible as it may sound, it appears that the outgoing Paris Saint-Germain coach and ex-international Louis Fernandez is implicated in one of the takeover bids for Red Star. Luis Fernandez The news was announced in Le Parisien yesterday. Luis has made no secret of his desire to be involved with Parisian football. So, the name of the man who led the PSG to UEFA Cup glory a few years ago appears in the details of the project organised by Eric Charrier, aged 38. The presence of Fernandez, most likely as a shareholder, could be a determining factor in the final choice of candidate to take over the ailing club. Next step the 5th June where the potential candidates face the courts, before a decision is announced on June 12th. |

TOMORROW. Tomorrow is the big day for Red Star, as it appears that the old club will be wound up. However, we probably won't be any wiser as to the outcome of the courts' deliberations until mid June. At the moment two of the three "bids" to takeover the club are in with a serious chance of staying the course - one appears to be doomed.
SOME STATISTICS. When, after forty-one minutes of the match at Bauer, Red Stars' forward Mongin lobbed the Reims' goalie, it was the first time that Red Star had found the net in 401 minutes. The last time was in the dying seconds fo the game at Aubervilliers (1-1). Since then they lost 1-0 to a last-gasp goal to Saint-Quentin at Bauer, then a goalless draw at Beauvais before losing by the odd goal at home to Choisy. The followed a four-goal pasting at Roye before the Reims game at Bauer. Red Star have scored a measly twenty goals in twenty-eight games. They have failed to find the net in nine games, have scored one goal sixteen times, have found the net twice in a game on two occasions (Créteil at home and Rethel away). They did score three times during one match at Saint Quentin - trouble is that their opponents scored five in return ! Red Star should have taken notes from the SNCF employees when it comes to strikers ! |

GOING DOWN, GOING DOWN.... So, it's all over bar the shouting. As one era draws to a sorry close, Red Star slump back into the DH, where the "new" club of 1978 started out after the last bankruptcy. Jean-Claude and his bunch have dumped the club back where they found it; the only positive thing is at least the club came back to Bauer to die rather than the wilderness of Marville. |

RETHEL, CHANTILLY … RED STAR, CHAUMONT, AUBERVILLIERS, CHARTRES. With only three matches left to play, the names of three of the four potential clubs to be relegated are virtually 100% known. The first two are 99% certain, Red Star will need a miracle to avoid the drop. They do have the advantage of playing two of the other relegation candidates, Chaumont and Chartres. Next up is an away trip to Orléans, a team with nothing to play for. Aubervilliers, currently on a miraculous run, coudl even hope to attain eleventh place, to the detriment of Chartres. 11th could potentially gurantee safety, whereas twelfth place risks relegation, as the club with the worst record in 12th place across all the groups will be relegated, and at the moment Group B, Red Stars' group contains this club. All this is hypothetical, because in reality clubs in a "safe" position are occasionally relegated on financial grounds.
THE RUN IN. The last three games are to be played the 10th, 17th and 24th May. |
