LOUIS FERNANDEZ AT RED STAR ? Incredible as it may sound, it appears that the outgoing Paris Saint-Germain coach and ex-international Louis Fernandez is implicated in one of the takeover bids for Red Star. Luis Fernandez The news was announced in Le Parisien yesterday. Luis has made no secret of his desire to be involved with Parisian football. So, the name of the man who led the PSG to UEFA Cup glory a few years ago appears in the details of the project organised by Eric Charrier, aged 38. The presence of Fernandez, most likely as a shareholder, could be a determining factor in the final choice of candidate to take over the ailing club. Next step the 5th June where the potential candidates face the courts, before a decision is announced on June 12th.

CHARTRES v RED STAR. A full grandstand at the Stade Gallet on Saturday despite the atrocious weather. The rain only held off for a period of ten minutes in the second half, and there was standing water in places on the surface. About twenty of Mr. Bras' "Dead Branches" had made the trip from Saint-Ouen, and in addition several injured players watched the game from the stand. When questioned, the general opinion was that the players would stay and fight to get the Red Star out of the DH. Time will tell.
Not a violent match in any way, but some of the refereeing decisions were apalling. Especially the dismissal of Nabile Yessad. Perhaps only the zest of Anderson Kor, which resulted in his withdrawal at half time might have been construed as worthy of a booking, but the rest were stupid yellow cards, due in some way to the fact that the referee failed to take into account the climactic conditions. Poor indeed.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. In the takeover of Red Star, the next step is that the potential saviours of the club will be invitied to a meeting with the courts along with representants from the town of Saint-Ouen on the fifth of June. The name of the "lucky" winner will be announced one week later on the twelfth. Meanwhile the candidates are all actively pursuing their goals, and have been in contact with the current squad.
Next week this site will have a closer look at Pascal Grosbois and Bruno Naidon, the sporting directors proposed by the two serious candidates for the takeover, Eric Charrier and Jean-Yves Le Gourrierec.
SATURDAYS GAME. Will be officiated by Arnaud Marey, from the Ligue de Lorraine, 31 and a teacher. His assistants will be Gilles Petitmangin and Frédéric Callewaert.

TOMORROW. Tomorrow is the big day for Red Star, as it appears that the old club will be wound up. However, we probably won't be any wiser as to the outcome of the courts' deliberations until mid June. At the moment two of the three "bids" to takeover the club are in with a serious chance of staying the course - one appears to be doomed.

Orléans - Red Star
Orléans v Red Star

SOME STATISTICS. When, after forty-one minutes of the match at Bauer, Red Stars' forward Mongin lobbed the Reims' goalie, it was the first time that Red Star had found the net in 401 minutes. The last time was in the dying seconds fo the game at Aubervilliers (1-1). Since then they lost 1-0 to a last-gasp goal to Saint-Quentin at Bauer, then a goalless draw at Beauvais before losing by the odd goal at home to Choisy. The followed a four-goal pasting at Roye before the Reims game at Bauer. Red Star have scored a measly twenty goals in twenty-eight games. They have failed to find the net in nine games, have scored one goal sixteen times, have found the net twice in a game on two occasions (Créteil at home and Rethel away). They did score three times during one match at Saint Quentin - trouble is that their opponents scored five in return ! Red Star should have taken notes from the SNCF employees when it comes to strikers !
That's the problem for Red Star - inefficiency in front of goal. Losing their best scorer halfway through the season didn't help matters (Lassanya Doubya), but the record reveals that even his contribution wasn't enough.
Whos's to blame ? The players do their best - perhaps a little more luck may have helped. Tactical naivety on the part of the coach ? Maybe. Certainly the legacy left by the previous mis-management of the club was an important factor.
Whatever, the season is virtually over - with two games remaning against two of the poorer sides in the league, Red Stars' kids have a great chance to salvage something from the season, for personal pride, to get themselves noticed to enhance their career with Red Star or elsewhere... maybe even for the long-suffering fans !

GOING DOWN, GOING DOWN.... So, it's all over bar the shouting. As one era draws to a sorry close, Red Star slump back into the DH, where the "new" club of 1978 started out after the last bankruptcy. Jean-Claude and his bunch have dumped the club back where they found it; the only positive thing is at least the club came back to Bauer to die rather than the wilderness of Marville.
Saturdays' pathetic defeat at Orléans mathematically condemns the ailing club to relegation - whatever happens in the last two games, it's all over. Red Star join the club of Exeter City, Shrewsbury Town, Southport FC, West Ham United, Northampton Town amongst others who will be facing the harsh future of footballing life at an inferior level.
The season may be over in terms of Red Stars' survival, but for two of the other clubs involved in the dogfight to avoid the drop, Red Star play a key role in their destiny. Firstly Chaumont make the trip to Bauer before Red Star travel on the last days of the season to Chartres.
The sorry lone figure of "Red Stars' last stand", sat all alone in the seats opposite just about sums the situation up - isolation. A big thank you to all those who have contributed to kill off this once-proud club.
ELSEWHERE. Aubervilliers - Créteil 2-0, Choisy-le-Roi - Auxerre 2-0, Saint-Quentin - Ivry 2-3, Roye - Châlons-en-Champagne 1-1, Reims - Chantilly 2-1, Chaumont- Chartres 2-0 et Beauvais - Rethel 2-1
AND FINALLY... Comiserations to the supporters of all the clubs all over Europe who have tasted relegation this season (okay then - all but one club).... we know exactly how you feel, this being our fourth relegation in five seasons.

MORE ON THE TAKEOVER. Following the closure of the deadline for applicants for the takeover of Red Star, three candaidates are in the running. Eric Charrier and Jean-Yves Le Gourrierec with a slight advantage for the latter, as well as UMP oppostion councillor William Delannoy, with perhaps less of a chance than the other two.
Jean-Yves Le Gourrierec : his project is based on the nurturing of young talent, with the emphasis on long-term recovery for the first team. The budget will be around 457 347 €, the majority of this coming from the private sector, and not dependent upon one company.
William Delannoy : His campaign is called « Ensemble pour un nouveau Red Star » (Together for a new Red Star). He was about to throw in the towel in his quest to take over Red Star when he joined up with Denis-Marie Cintura, president of Racing Club de France 92. The idea ia to have a convention between RCF 92 & Red Star, and a budget of around 300 000 €, with a further 150 000 € from sponsoring. The RCF boss would be looking to a fusion between the two clubs, hugely unacceptable to both sets of supporters. Realistically he has les of a chance than the two others, due to his political leanings, bearing in mind that the Saint-Ouen council is controlled by the left, and his party is of the right.
Eric Charrier : « Une équipe pour le Red Star ». Charrier aims to stabilise Red Star at CFA level before climbing back into the National within five years. A budget was not specified.
ALSO THIS WEEKEND. In CFA 2 : Choisy-le-Roi - Auxerre, Roye- Châlons-en-Champagne, Reims - Chantilly, Aubervilliers - Créteil, Saint-Quentin - Ivry, Beauvais - Rethel, Chaumont - Chartres.

LATEST NEWS ON THE TAKEOVER. The newspaper Le Parisien this morning published an article revealing a few more details about the candidates in the running for the new Red Star. There was also a word on the rumour that Jean-Claude Bras is trying to put together a salvage package in order to try and keep the club going in its present form.
Firstly there is Jean-Yves Le Gourrierec, a resident of Saint-Ouen and boss of a Paris-based publicity company, and his argument is that his project is "popular, ambitious an reasonable". Eric Charrier, former amateur footballer, proposes his competence in the domain of management as much as sporting. He has called upon Pascal Grosbois, formerly in charge of the Villepinte youth academy, to take the rôle of technical director. The third candidate is the company Crédit Foncier de France, in association with Sedan football club, who play in Ligue 1.
The next step is that the dossiers will be studied by the courts on May 15th. The judges will then decide on the future of the club.

RETHEL, CHANTILLY … RED STAR, CHAUMONT, AUBERVILLIERS, CHARTRES. With only three matches left to play, the names of three of the four potential clubs to be relegated are virtually 100% known. The first two are 99% certain, Red Star will need a miracle to avoid the drop. They do have the advantage of playing two of the other relegation candidates, Chaumont and Chartres. Next up is an away trip to Orléans, a team with nothing to play for. Aubervilliers, currently on a miraculous run, coudl even hope to attain eleventh place, to the detriment of Chartres. 11th could potentially gurantee safety, whereas twelfth place risks relegation, as the club with the worst record in 12th place across all the groups will be relegated, and at the moment Group B, Red Stars' group contains this club. All this is hypothetical, because in reality clubs in a "safe" position are occasionally relegated on financial grounds.
