JUNE 2003 NEWS ARCHIVE  RED STAR 93

Updated 30th June

THE FIRST EIGHT DAYS. Despite only having been at the head of the club for eight days, already signs of change (for the good) have been felt at Red Star. Okay, it's only the start, but a good job depends on a good start. He did give our site an exclusive - the new name for the club is Red Star Football Club 93. In almost five years of doing this site under the Bras reign (or his cohorts) we got absolutely nothing out of the management for this site... in just over a week M. Charrier has met with us, and his actions and words fills us with optimism.

BIENVENUE … TO RED STAR FOOTBALL CLUB 93. The new name for our club. Older supporters will associate the name with the merger with Toulouse back in the seventies. Bienvenue to Red Star Football Club 93.
LUIS FERNANDEZ. Luis is turning out to be something of a top bloke for Red Star Football Club 93. Wednesday he spoke at length on his role at the new club with ths fans, Thursday it was for the players and the coaching staff for the season 2003-2004. Along with Pascal Grosbois, sporting co-ordinator and Eric Charrier, future president of RSFC 93 Luis Fernandez detailed his plans for the club and for the future. The presence of M. Fernandez at the club is having the knock-on effect of boosting applications from youngsters to join Red Star 93. Top man, Luis.
BACK TO WORK. Friday 25th July is the date for the return to training, one month before the kick off of the new DH season.

YESTERDAY EVENING. Yesterday evening M. Charrier held a meeting for the players and supporters in order to present his new team of club directors. Luis Fernandez, ex-PSG coach was one of the first to arrive, in his Volvo. The presentation was carried out on the pitch in front of the main stand at Stade Bauer. Around 150 people gathered together to hear him speak, including several faces who haven't been to Red Star for a good few years, and now have decided to return following the departure of the old regime.
Firstly M. Charrier introduced himself and his project, before going on to introduce his fellow directors. Pascal Grobois went on in great detail about his plans and his rôle as sporting director. Next came Luis Fernandez, to the applause of the spectators. Obviously the great man commands respect. M. Fernandez is quietly spoken, perhaps a little shy, even, but he did outline positive things for the club. He seems to be committed to the project, as later on during a question and answer session it was he whom answered the audiences' questions.

LATEST NEWS - MEETING . Rumblings from Red Star - firstly, new President Eric Charrier has called a meeting on Wednesday at Stade Bauer (8pm CET) to present his project officially to the clubs' coaches and other interested parties.
As to the first team coach, there's still a bit of controversy going on - M. Charrier wants to bring in Pascal Grosbois, whereas the current incumbent Mustafa Ousfane has expressed his desire to carry on the job he started. Elsewhere M. Charrier reiterated his desire for the three R's in French "Respect, Rigueur and Réussite" which means Respect, Discipline and Success... we just hope that there isn't for a fourth "R" the word relégation; we would prefer the word "remontée" (promotion).
On a more incredible note, some names have alrady been linked to Red Star for next season... including a certain Varit Bououden, aged 36, the perpetrator of the violent and obscene tackle that could have ended the career of Red Stars' Samir Sahridj. Do we want that kind of player at Red Star ? I think not.
Long-time Red Star supporter Louis Kerroch passed away recently, aged 67. We extend our sympathies to his family.

ERIC CHARRIER, PRESIDENT OF RED STAR. There it is, the news is out - Red Star have a new president, 38-years old Eric Charrier. For the sum of 12 000 euros, the famous club of Saint-Ouen is his. ALso present, coach Mustapha Ousfane, who declared that the current squad of players is ready for the takeover, and that they are ready to stay at the club. Gérard Valck, site contributor reiterated that the supporters should not let the situation at the club degenerate into the state it was recently, and that they should be on alert. Our position is that of let's give the guy a chance, see what happens. We must always be wary of any attempted come-back by former directors, however.
Meanxhile, we await to see the role that ex-PSG boss Luis Fernandez will play in all this - he's supposed to be a shareholder in the new club.

TAKEOVER NEWS. Reactions have been arriving from our Internet visitors about the situation with Red Star. Claude, for example, congratulates us on the presentations we have prepared on the respective bids of Eric Charrier and Jean-Yves Le Gourrierec. Also, he wishes us to retain our independance... which we hope to do, as well. Pierre from Paris appears to be optimistic, especially concerning the involvement of ex-PSG coach Luis Fernandez. Well-wishes also from Le Mans, represented by Didier Nardeux. Laurent, native of Saint-Ouen can't wait for the 19th, the decision day, and from nearby Aubervilliers, Stéphane expresses concern about the Charrier bid. M. Ousfane, whom he credits for having acknowledged the part played by the supporters this season, he asks if he is really expressing his opinions, in stating that the coach and the players are unanimous behind the Charrier bid. All these reactions are those of the authors, and not necessarily those of this site.
DIVISION D'HONNEUR. Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois won their play-off match against PTT Châlons, and are consequently promoted from the DH to the CFA 2. This means that the reserve team of Paris FC will not be relegatd from the DH and which gives us the following line-up for next season:

DSR. In the DSR, one division below the DH, Red Stars' reserves will play in one of two divisions of 12 clubs. The full list of twenty four clubs is as follows:

The season for the reserves kicks off on Sunday 7th September.

GOOD NEWS. Red Star shouldn't in theory be put into liquidation, the dossiers of two of the takeover bids appear to be "solid" and have been retained for further inspection by the magistrates of the TGI at Bobigny.
DECISION DAY : 19TH JUNE. Yesterday, the takeover candidates of Red Star faced an "oral" examination in front of the court at Bobigny. First surprise, instead of there being three, only two were present. William Delannoy, somewhat of an outsider with his "merger with Racing Club" scenario has dropped out of the race. The TGI also heard from the current management of Red Star, represented by Claude Thuel (president of AS Red Star 93), Georges Dahan, the clubs' lawyer and Mustapha Ousfane representing the staff.
Saint-Ouen town were also represented, by Madame Jacqueline Rouillon, and the owner of the sporting installations, notably Stade Bauer. The regional council were also represented
The two candidates, in alphabetical order out of fairness and neutrality : Yves Charrier and Jean-Yves Le Gourrierec presented their projects. The race will be a close one, and the outcome will only be decided on June 19th. The delay will mean that the club will start its preparations for the new season late. We will cover the two takeover bids in more detail at a later date.
MEETING. The Collectif des Amis du Red Star, the supporters' organisation will hold an open meeting some time after the decision of the courts have been made. Both candidates have already held talks with the supporters. This site as well as the supporters are totally neutral as far as the takeover battle is concerned, with no preference for one or the other candidates.
DJAMEL HAMDANE According to Le Parisien, the defensie midfielder and captain of Red Star is a potential target for National clubs Dijon and Entente Sannois-Saint-Gratien. His teammate Julien Carles, fullback or wing-back could also be bound for L1 outfit Rennes.
