SAINT-OUEN. Red Star had a stall at the annual Open Day at Saint-Ouen, where all the local associations, sporting or otherwise present themselves to the public, with the aim of recruting new members. This is the first time for several years that the club has attended. Present were Jean-Luc Girard, a couple of young ladies and some of the coaching staff. There was a mini-pitch for tennis-football on offer, and there was a specific recruitment drive to attract potential female footballers. The idea is to create a Red Star Ladies FC.

LIVE FROM MEAUX: Saturday evening from 7pm CET onwards, you can follow the evolution of the match Meaux v Red Star on our mini-site .

SECOND SIGNING. Following the arrival of defender Philippe Cuervo, Red Star have finally signed a striker, something that the club has been lacking for a while now. Gaël Hiroux, aged 23 and a product of Paris SG youth, he has played over matches in D2 in France, with Martigues alongside ex-Red Star man Mickaël Tacalfred as well as alongside PSG midfielder Selim Benachour.
"He is still learning. He's a youngster with interesting qualities in front of goal. A loan spell will be good for him so that he can mature a little.". These were the words at the time of ex-PSG coach Luis Fernandez on the subect of Hiroux. Victim of the purge of all things Fernandez at PSG under the new regime, the striker was out of work until signing for Red Star. It may be a drop in level to the DH, but this shows that Red Star are seriously building for the future.
INJURY LIST. Other than Philippe Marques, still on the road to recovery, the only doubtful is defender Vincent Fourneuf (knee).
MEAUX . Not the best start to the championship for Meaux: two draws and two losses, and they are still waiting to open their scoring account. The line up for their last league game was Diop - Diaby, M'Bodge, Glombiowski, Maatit, Kebe, Da Fonseca - R. Doukha, K. Doukha, Jankowski, Karalambridès, Morele - Filtner, Guay, Villain. Coach is Jacky Hachoud. The match tomorrow will be officiated by Yoann Rouinsard assisted by Jean-Jacques Lambert and Xavier Marot.

PAUL SANCHEZ. Yesterday came the news that former Red Star Football Club president Paul Sanchez passed away on Friday 19th September. Born in the early 1920s at Mirabeau in the Vaucluse, he was a player with Granville and moved to Paris after Liberation in 1945. His son Dominique played for Red Star.
He became deputy-mayor at Saint-Ouen, and joined the board of directors in 1969, becoming president in June 1972 with the assistance of Jean Baptiste Doumeng and Gilbert Zenatti. During 1975-1976, Paul Sanchez was behind theconstruction of the "New" stand at the Rue Bauer end of the ground. Under his presidency, the club played its last days in D1 before going into liquidation in May 1978.
AllezRedStar.com extends its sympathies to his family.

CUP. Coach Azzezdine Méguellati was pleased with his teams' performance on Sunday in beating Portugese of Fontainebleau 6-1. He described it as being "serious" and was happy that his men had taken their opponents seriously.
Red Star took the lead after twelve minutes, Jalliti heading in from a Budoc corner. Just before the break André Latt-Agnes made it two from the penalty spot. After the break the home team pulled one back and for a short spell threatened the visitors, before Desmarets, Latt-Agnes again, Balde and Bial Hammami made the game safe for Red Star.
Incidentally, Portugese Fontainebleau are one of the rare French football clubs, along with AJ Auxerre who actually own their own ground. Over the years volunteers and club staff have laboured to build a stadium with a grandstand and decent changing rooms. The club is where French international defender, currently with Juventus, Lilian Thuram started his playing carreer. He hasn't forgotten where he came from, either, and visits from time to time. He has even presented the club with one of his international shirts, proudly displayed in the clubhouse.
Speaking of spirit, far from being downhearted despite the scoreline, Fontainebleau were happy with their day, a match played in a good spirit and a healthy crowd. The club was happy to have played against one of the great names in French football.

CUP WEEKEND. This weekend the Coupe de France takes priority over league matters. Red Stars' game at Montigny-sur-Loing against Portugais Fontainebleau will be refereed by Mohamed Hacid, assisted by Cyril Cropsal and Sylvain Delépine. Kick-off is at 3pm CET, don't forget. The result will be published Sunday evening on our mini-site
Elsewhere in the cup, Parisian DH clubs from Red Stars' division are in action; Nanteuil - Evry, Brétigny - Villenoy, Montesson - Villemomble, Chelles - Meaux, Meudon - Orly, Courbevoie - Cosmo, Versailles - Bièvres, Villepinte - Saint-Leu, Combes-la Ville - Arménienne, Plaisir - Aubervilliers.
Red Stars' first ever foray into the competition which they have won five times was back in 1918-1919 (the second year of existence of the cup). On the 6th October 1918, the Red Star Amical Club at Saint-Ouen beat near-neighbours U.S.A de Clichy 1-0 but lost out one month later at home to Stade Français 0-4.
RESERVES FRIENDLY. Red Stars' reserves have a friendly game organised at the Ile des Vannes, kick-off 3pm CET Saturday (opposition to be announced)
TWO PHOTOS. From behind the block of flats which overlooks Stade Bauer. The second photo is from rue Blanqui, the street parallel to the main stand at Bauer. On the wall of one of the houses is a plaque which commemorates Docteur Claude Bauer who had his clinic in the building. On the 23rd May 1942 he was executed by the Nazis because he was an active member of the Resistance. A plaque has also been erected to commemorate his wife, Marie Jeanne, who was deported to the camps at Auschwitz. Respect. Since the 12th October 2002, the Stade de Saint-Ouen is officially known at Stade Bauer.

YOANN DELANEUVILLE. Red Stars' captain was voted man of the match on Sunday against Villemomble. Returning from injury, Yoann ran his heart out against a solid Villemomble defence, and worked tirelessly at the other end too. Special mention to Franck Guei, who also had a good game. So that makes four different man-of-the match from four games... Franck Guei, Riad Fellahi and André Latt-Agnes.

The match at Meaux saturday evening saw a half time which lasted over twenty minutes, as the locals contested a hotly-disputed penalty awareded to Cosmo by the referee... worse, at the end of the game the referee returned to find his car had been trashed... disgraceful... and Red Star go there in a fortnights' time.

COUPE DE FRANCE. Red Stars' opponents next Sunday in the Coupe, the Portugais de Fontainebleau, have kicked off their league program with a 2-0 win over Montereau last Sunday. Point of trivia - Lilian Thuram started his career with the Portugais de Fontainebleau.
EDITORIAL COMMENT. Another sign that things are changing for the better at Red Star - the fact that we get the squad details directly from the coach before anyone else. Compared to last season, when even the press couldn't get hold of Red Stars' squad details, this is a huge improvement. Bravo to the new Red Star !!!

FOURTH STAGE. Next game for a rising Red Star is near-neighbours Villemomble Sports,a club well versed in the DH. For several seasons now Villemomble have been trying to gain promotion. This season the club led by ex-Red Star man Mickaël Santos have got off to the perfect start with three straight wins over Paris FC, Meaux and Paris SG. Apart from the 3-0 trouncing of Meaux 3-0, the two other wins came somewhat against the tun of play according to witnesses present at the games.
In March 1993, in the DH, Red Star reserves were at homt Villemomble and won convincingly 4-0. The goals were scored by Gonzalve (47 and 50), Mauricio (65) and Fall (82). The most impressive thing about the game is the line-up of Red Star that day: Guéret, Dorizon, Brighenti, Gonzalve, Yalli, Vasquez, Douarre, Valéri, Polaniok, Ouvret, Zouaoui, subs : Brucato, Mauricio, Martial.

NEWS OF SOME EX-PLAYERS. Djamel Hamdane, last seasons' captain is still looking for a club after an unsuccessful trail with Swiss D2 outfit Yverdon. Richard Akiana, from the National days, is now at CFA club Gap, and Arthur Gomis found the net for his new club Poissy in a 1-1 draw with Pacy-sur-Eure in the CFA.
LETTER FROM ENGLAND. Pete, a Tranmere Rovers supporter writes : "I was reading an article on Parisian football, mainly about the formation of Paris Saint-Germain and some stuff on Racing Club. I read that Red Star was the oldest club in Paris founded by Jules Rimet and that they had been succesful in the 1920's. I also read about the relegations, financial problems and the move to Marville.
It struck me that the club had very passionate supporters who had strong feelings for the club, despite all the problems. I then found your excellent website which gave me even more information and I was able to follow the exploits of the team. I think it is remarkable that the club still exists, and this is a real testament to everyone involved and shows the true spirit of grass roots football. Thats why I became interested in Red Star. I hope that one day they will be able to repay the loyal fans with success on the pitch."

Thanks for your letter, Pete, and hope to see you very soon at Bauer.
If anyone else would care to share how they discovered Red Star, or why they take interest in our club, then we will be very interested to hear from you.

NEW SIGNING. On Friday, former Laval defender Philippe Cuervo signed for Red Star. Aged 34, he has vast experience in top-flight French football with Saint-Etienne (twice), Sochaux, Créteil and Laval, punctuated with a spell in England with Swindon Town. He should be available for next weeks' match. Meanwhile, in the papers, eccentric musician Doc Gynéco was quoted as saying that his future plans included a spot of training with Luis Fernandez !
OTHER DH SCORES. Racing beat Versailles 1-0, Villemomble won at Meaux 3-0 and share the leadership. In the Val d'Oise derby Saint-Leu and Cosmo Ermont-Taverny drew 0-0. Brétigny beat Aubervilliers 1-0 whilst the match Paris FC - Arménienne fell victim to an unplayable pitch.
EVRY v RED STAR. Around thirty or so Red Star fans including the duo of injured players Azzedine Benmesmoudi and Yoann Delaneuville made the relatively long trip to the southern suburbs. However one, the 80-years old Robert, got lost in the sprawling new town and visited virtually all the football grounds in the area before giving up the ghost and returning home. This gentleman must have been disappointed, as he rarely misses an away game.
At half time, president Mr Eric Charrier chatted with the supporters, and was pleased with Red Stars' performance, and to be leading 1-0 at the time.
The supportes' present voted Riad Fellahi as the man of the match. So, in our season-long quest, two players have one point each after the first two games, Frank Guei and Riad Fellahi.
Evrys' ground is situated between a lake and a railway line, quite picturesque.
