Updated 30th October

FONTAINEBLEAU. One of the top amateur clubs in French football, whive over the last ten years or so has undergone some huge changes in fortune.
The Club Sportif de Fontainebleau was founded in 1912 and had its moment of glory under the name of Entente Bagneaux-Fontainebleau-Nemours when they reached the final of the CFA (division 3 at the epoch) in 66-67, coached by Paul Jurili. Fontainebleau even led 2-0 before finally losing 2-3 against Quevilly who were coached by Daniel Horlaville. Next season, another loss, this time 0-2 against Pierre Cahuzacs' Gazelec d’Ajaccio. Fontainebleau later experienced another final disappointement against the Pierrots de Strasbourg. In 1970, Entente reached the semi-finals and in their team featured a young player called Jean-Pierre Adams.
In 1972, coached by a former Saint-Ouen man, ex-goalkeeper then later coach Ladislas Nagy, the club reached D 2, where they stayed for several seasons before relegation to the D 3, in 1978. Promoted once more in 1981 until 1983. Then came a merger with Melun in 1987-88 which was fruitless, and the club dropped through the divisions until they reached the DSR, where they currently are known as RC Fontainebleau.
In the Coupe de France, the Bellifontains hav reached the last 32 on numerous occasions.
JEAN-PIERRE ADAMS. As mentioned above, Jean-Pierre Adams started his career out at Fonainebleau. He was capped 22 times by his country of adoption, where with Marius Trésor he was the backbone of the defence. Born in Dakar (Senegal), in 1948, his career took in Fontainebleau, Nîmes, Nice then Paris SG in May 1979. Here he crossed a young Luis Fernandez frech out of the younth academy. Jean-Pierre Adams underwent a routine knee injury which infortunately went horribly wrong, and he fell into a deep coma. To this day he is still in a coma, over twenty years on, and his wife and family have needed much courage through this tragedy.

CUP: IT'S ANOTHER FONTAINEBLEAU. Red Stars' representatives had a long wait before they finally heard who their club would be playing in the next round of the Coupe de France. Yesterday evening, at the Ligue de Paris offices, only four balls remained in the urns... Emile Henri, one of the national team coaches pulled out the name of Red Star from the hat. Three clubs remained: Fontainebleau (DSR), Versailles (DH) and Levallois (CFA 2). Eventually the club from Saint-Ouen were paired with Fontainebleau. Another club from Fontainebleau, as in an earlier round, Red Star had travelled to the Seine-et-Marne and thrashed the Portugais de Fontainebleau 6-1.
Fontainebleau play in the DSR, one division below Red Star, and in the same group as Red Stars' reserve team. The only victory in the league for Red Stars' future opponents saw them beat, curiously enough, Red Stars' reserves 2-1 ! Ninth in their division, the Seine-et-Marne club reached the sixth round of the cup at the expense of Nanteuil, 2-1.
Incidentally, there was a novel method for the draw last night; the fist ball, that of the "home" club was drawn by Henri Emile, then the "opponents" ball was drawn by a representative of the "home" club. Our man Gérard, deputising for Eric Charrier (stuck in traffic !) pulled out Fontainebleau. Another AllezRedStar.com exclusive !

RED STAR - PSG. Unfortunately, not the first team of PSG, but their reserves. In the past, the two clubs have met at competitive level on a few occasions. On the 13th October 1971, in D 1 Red Star lost 4-1 at Colombes; the return match at Bauer ended 0-0. 1973-74, D 2, at the Parc des Princes, Red Star lost 3-1, but won the return match under coach José Farias 2-0. Red Star were champions, but Paris SG were also promoted via the playoffs at the expense of Valenciennes. PSG are still in D1 to this day.
1974-75, now in D 1, the Parisiens won 2-0, on 24th November 1974. For the return game on the 3rd May 1975, a 1-1 draw sent Red Star back to the D 2. Since then, the only meeting between the teams has been a League Cup tie fifteen years later.
