COUPE GAMBARDELLA. Today, Red Stars' youngsters are in the draw for the next round of the cup.
RETOUR SUR COLOMBES. The Stade Yves-du-Manoir, which was built for the 1924 Olympic games. Of the original site, only the main grandstand remains, and although reconstruction of the stadium is planned, the project hasn't really advanced since several years. If, however, Paris are successful in their bid for the 2012 games, Colombes could undergo a facelift as one of the key sporing arenas. These days only the Rugby Union team uses the main arena, Racings' football club deem that for the crowds they get in the CFA, the Choine stadium alongside is adequate (despite no floodlights !!). However on Saturday, the Olympic arena saw a Coupe de France tie between Dijon and Club Franciscain (Martinique). Dijon won 2-0 in front of 5 000 spectateurs. The biggest crowd Colombes has had in a while.

REGIONAL SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE. In Le Parisien yesterday was an article about the exodus of young sporting talent from the Seine-Saint-Denis area. It mentioned Red Stars' youngsters whom have moved on to greater things (Itandje, Saci, Meïté …). In 2001 Red Stars' academy as well as one at nearby Villepinte both closed down, thus slamming the door in the faces of a large of a youngsters in the area. For them it was either go out of the area or abandon hopes of greatness.
To stop the exodus of talent, the District under the presidency of Marcel Bourdin envisages the creation of a Centre of Excellence based at Marville - the main arene being under-used since the return of Red Star to Bauer. The Academy would accomodate around 25 youngster, around the age of 12 years, on Sunday mornings to begin with then full-time later on. A mini-Clairefontaine, says Michel Drouilhat, technical adviser to the council and former pro with Red Star. The main aim is to avoid the departures of youngsters alsewhere.

Luckily, it turned out to be the other shoulder from the one which he injured at the start of the season, and from which he has only just got back. He had been taken to the hospital Louis Mourrier at Colombes, but was alloxed to leave shortly afterwards. Elsewhere, injured goalkeeper Mikaël Germain will be absent until the start of 2004. HOW TO GET THERE. We suspect that the match will not take place on the main pitch at Colombes, but on an adjacent pitch, which still boasts a small grandstand in case it rains. Directions are still the same; by road, take the A86 & exit at "Colombes Europe"; you can see the ground from the motorway. By bus, the 164 runs direct from Saint-Ouen rue Bauer to the stadium; by train at Saint-Lazare take the Argenteuil direction trains which stop at "Le Stade"; from there the ground is a 10 minute walk & is well signposted ("Stade Yves du Manoir"). Don't forget that it used to be the national rugby stadium, hence its' own railway station. LAST WEEKENDS' RESULTS

LATEST NEWS. Azzedine Meguellatti had to re-arrange his defence yet again for the visit of Brétigny. The last-minute injury to key defender Bilal Hammami (fractured toe) sustained during training, added to the long-term injury to Vincent Fourneuf and the suspension of Aboubacar Diomande meant an earlier-than-expected call-up for the excellent Nabile Yessad. The coachs' intuition paid off, as the revelation of last season turned in an exquisite performance, almost faultless. For the supporters, the question was why this talent was wasted whilst he took so long to reach a decision as to re-sign for Red Star. Welcome back, Nabile.
Another returning face was Phil Marques, the hard-working forward. Following a nasty shoulder injury sustained during the build-up to the new season, Phil was a second-half substitute yesterday. Although he may not be the most talented of forwards, Phil always shows commitment to the game, and always gives 100% - something Red Star will surely need this season. Welcome back Phil.

GAEL HIROUX QUITS RED STAR. Contacted recently by Breton club Pontivy, (CFA), Gaël Hiroux has signed a contract and will leave for his new club today. Not before playing in yesterdays' game at Saint-Ouen. His parents contacted the site and wishing him good luck at his new club, thank Red Star for helping him get his career back on track. Hirouxs' deal with Red Star always left the door open for him to leave should a club more suited to his standing come in for him.

LUIS FERNANDEZ PRESENT. Top Man (1). As the Spanish Ligua had a rest day (Euro qualifiers), Luis Fernandez took advantage of the break to pop in at Bauer to check on the progress of his young protegés... proof that despite finding himself a new voaching position, he is still committed to Red Star. Top man, Luis.
KARIM FELLAHI TOO…. Top Man (2). Portugal had a day off too, so former Red Star hero and big brother to Riad, Karim Fellahi, popped in to see Red Star at Bauer. The second visit of the season - once Red Star, always Red Star. Top man, Karim.

Luis Fernandez  Karim Fellahi
Left, Luis Fernandez, alongside Michel Moulin, and right, man of the people Karim Fellahi with a supporter.

BACK IN THE PACK (2). Djamel Hamdane, aged 25 ans and a player (and last seasons' captain) with Red Star from 1993 until May 2003, is back with Red Star.
DSR - RESERVES SLUMP. Red Stars' reserves wet down 0-1 against Issy, after conceding a goal as early as the 8th minute. A crucial defeat against a direct rival in the relegation dogfight.
UNDER 16s. Two goals in the first four minutes cost dear to the under 16s, as they lost 2-0 against Obernay (2-0)
UNDER 14s . Some good news from the Under 14s with a great 2-1 win against Quevilly. The Under 18 drew 1-1 with a strong Brétigny outfit.
ABUSE. Finally, at the end of the match at Bauer against Brétigny, one individual, a Red Star supporter, responded to the players acknowledgment of the supporters with accusations of failing to break into a sweat for the club. A rather unjustified reaction, seeing as the players were covered in mud, freezing cold and knackered after slogging around in the pouring rain for an hour and a half. Ths individual, who shall remain nameless, also clamoured for the resignation of coach Azzedine Meguellatti, which is completely ludicrous. He was shouted down, however by other more rational elemnts of the Red Star supporters. The last thing the players need at the moment is that kind of behaviour, and AllezRedStar.com hopes that the players appreciate that the vast majority of the fans are behind them all the way.
Incidentally, this individual has so far this season made an impression on the public at Armenienne by swearing profusely at some of their more passionate supporters in front of women & children; at Meaux and at Bauer he has insulted the referees' assistants; finally this unwarranted attack on the players and coach.
HOME ?. Red Stars' supporters finally have a "home" at Stade Bauer.. the old supporters' shop has been given back to the fans, albeit a little dusty... it's a start !

BRETIGNY. The club from the Essonne is the only amateur in the Ile-de-France and perhaps one of the only clubs in the whole of France to have three youth teams competing at national level (Under 18s, 16s and 14s). Three former players have joined the ranks of professionals: Jacques Faty (Rennes), Under 17s world champion and under 21 international; Patrice Era (Monaco), under 21 international; Mario Espartero (Metz). Brétigny had a partnership with Rennes for several seasons and now have one with Guy Rouxs' AJ Auxerre.

Nabile Yessad

BACK IN THE FOLD. Nabile Yessad, revelation of the season 2002-2003 as voted by this site is back at Red Star. An excellent defender with a bright future, many were disappointed when he didn't reappear to play for the reborn Red Star back in August. Our tip for the top, along with Bilal Hammami, the 19-year old will have to train hard to regain his fitness and his place in the defence.
UNDER 16s. Red Stars' youngsters, coached by David Giguet, lost 2-1 somewhat against the run of play in their clash with Metz, reknowned for their center of excellence (Robert Pires, amongst others). Next match on Sunday against Obernai.
RESERVES. Red Stars' reserves strikers faired no better than their first-team colleagues, losing 1-0 against Torcy. A 40th minute goal was enough for last weeks vainquers of Saint-Leu in the cup. Red Stars' Laurent Delmas did stop a second half penalty, however.
OTHER SCORES. The Under 14s (Fédéral) went 2-0 up against Paris Centre Formation only to see thie opponents fight back to earn a 2-2 draw. The under 18s earned a 3-3 draw at Saint-Leu.
LUIS. Not exactly a winning start for Luis Fernandez with his new club Espanyol. Hosts (and Luis' former club) Athletic Bilbao ran out 1-0 winners.

YESTERDAY EVENING AT STADE BAUER. The "new" supporters club hels it's first real public meeting yesterday evening at Stade Bauer. For many of the forty or so present, it was also an opportunity for them to see parts of the interior of the stadium not normally accessible to the general public. Held in a meeting room on the ground floor of the Bauer Stand, there was a brief presentation of the supporters' project by President Olivier Hercy, followed by Red Stars' president Eric Charrier outlining his vision for the club. Afterwards there was an at times lengthy question and answer session before drinks and snacks were served. Some of the questions dragged on somewhat, in particular one (nameless) individual who monopolised proceedings a little. Apart from that, it can be said that the visions of Mr Charrier correspond with the views of the supporters.
Before the session got underway, Mr Charrier invited the supporters out into the crisp evening air to witness the evenings' training session, something unheard of under the previous regime.
The spirit of glasnost is alive and well at Red Star - Mr Charriers' perestroika is much appreciated by the supporters, and there is a great deal of mutual respect between the two parties. Upon having met and chatted to Red Stars' president for the first time, AllezRedStar.coms' reporter can say that Mr Charrier is very approachable, friendly and open. We chatted in length about the "Spirit of Red Star" amongst other subjects.

MEAUX IN TROUBLE. The match on Sunday between Meaux and Evry will be played at nearby Quincy Voisins. The Ligue de Paris disciplinary commitee decided on the 16th October to close the Stadium at Meaux for two games following incidents during and after the game against Cosmo Ermont-Taverny on the 13th of September. The referee found his car vandalised after the game. In total, Meaux have had two points deducted, the ground closed for two matches, general manager Jacky Gourdon suspended for three months, president André-Paul Anziani one month suspension, François Gaillet (one month), coach Jacky Hachoud (one month) and the towns' Mayor Ange Anziani (one month). The directors have appealed against the decision. Meanwhile the ground remains closed for the games against Evry and Paris SG.

Elsewhere; Rouen (L2) - Créteil (L2), Viry-Châtillon (CFA) - Racing (CFA), Saumur (DH) - Ivry (CFA 2), Mantois (CFA) - Pacy-sur-Eure (CFA), Poissy (CFA) - Chevrières (PH), Chantilly (DH) - Torcy (DSR) and two DH clubs Versailles - Arménienne. Locally, Cosmos Saint-Denis (Exc.) are at home to PH Hauts-de-Seine club ACBB whilst Drancy will have a tough game against CFA 2 outfit Dives.
IN TROUBLE. Arménienne could be in trouble following crowd disturbances during the home game against Saint-Leu. In view of the behaviour of one or two of them when Red Star played there, that comes as no surprise.
UNDER 16s . We received a mail from one of Red Stars' under 16s squad, who is obviously proud to represent the club. Good luck to him and his team-mates, and hopefully he'll provide us with an insight into the future stars of the club. Next game is on Sunday at home to FC Metz, Marville, kick-off 3pm CET

LUIS FERNANDEZ ON HIS WAY BACK TO SPAIN ?. At the end of his recent radio show on RMC « Luis attaque », Luis Fernandez confirmed that negociations with the Spanish Liga strugglers Espanyol Barcelona are well advanced. The club is currently coached by Javier Clemente and feature ex-Red Star man Cyril Domoraud. More to follow.
HOW TO GET TO SAINT-LEU. Saint-Leu is in the north-west suburbs of Paris - take the A115 and exit at the junction for Plessis - Bouchard. When you see signs for Saint-Leu follow the D 502 (boulevard André Brémond) and then turn left, Route d’Ermont. The ground is on the left. There is a railway station at Saint-Leu, a fair walk from the ground.

RED STAR LOSE IN CUP. Red Star make their exit from this years' Coupe de France following their 1-0 defeat at home to Fontainebleau. The goal came in the dying seconds of the game, for once it was Red Star victims of an injury-time sickener. Some of the supporters even booed the visitors at the end of the game. France 3 Ile-de-France televison were present for the match, and interviewed Benoît Delanoé, president of the SASP and Azzedine Meguellatti.
The crap weather accounted in part for the lower-than-average turn-out, but over four hundred made the effort to watch the game. Philippe Cuervo was back after injury, but Vincent Fourneuf, injured against Orly was rested by Red Stars' coach.
