TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD... On Wednesay Red Stars' youngsters at Under 13 and under 18 level progresed through to the finials of their respective Coupe de Paris age groups. On Thursday it was up to the first XI to mmake it a hat trick, but unfortunately they were robbed of a final spot by a plastic pitch, totally unsuitable for a match of this importance. Not only did Red Stars' Yoann Delaneuville and Kaba Diomande pull up with injuries during the game, even the referee ripped a muscle hand had to limp out of the action with fifteen minutes remaining ! Now wouldn't it be nice if the referee complained and the game had to be replayed on a real surface ....
Never mind, the passage through to the finals for the under 13s and under 18s is a big compensation, although both had to go to the lottery of a penalty shoot-out in order to go through. Perhaps the most fantastic feat has to be that of the under 13s, who managed to score all five of their penalties. Congratulations to coach Jean-Claude Oure.
The under 18s finished level at 1-1 thanks to an equaliser from Loïc Simon on the hour. On penalties Red Star won 2-1. So Red Star have two teams through to Coupe de Paris finals, not bad for a club that only twelve months ago was virtually dead and buried.

Red Star also featured some potential new recruits for next season. There is a friendly arranged against Poissy on Saturday May 29th, at the Stade Léo Lagrange, 8, rue du Stade, Poissy.

The under 13s will have a tough task against Paris SG, who thumped Sarcelles 6-1 in their semi-final.

COUPE DE PARIS, THURSDAY : MONTROUGE v RED STAR. On a plastic pitch of the old-style variety, Red Star will be hoping to qualify for the final of the Coupe de Paris seniors. Red Star have won this trophy twice in twenty five years and this years current crop are gunning for a third success.
Montrouge, their opponents have had a fantastic run to get this far and cannot be dismissed lightly. Saint-Cloud (2-0), Arménienne (3-0), Fleury-Mérogis (2-0) and Les Lilas (5-2) have all fallen by the wayside against the club from the southern suburbs. A strong defensive side who have conceded 25 goals in 21 championship matches. Red Star should keep the same line-up as was victorious against Aubervilliers. A training session in planned for this evening on the plastic pitch at the Ile des Vannes.
Referees for the cup tie on Thursday are Yann Billaux alongside Pascal Poupeau and Joël Carlier.
RESULT. The scores from todays' game will be put on the site after the match, and for tomorrows' big game early in the evenng. Some match photos wil also be available on our mini-site
RECORD BEATEN. Mondays' site was obviously quite a good read, as we have shattered the record for the number of connections ! Thanks to all our visitors, werever you are in the world.
UNDER 14S. Red Stars' under 14s will play their last game of the season at home to Lisieux at Stade Bauer on the 6th of June.

LEAGUE SEASON OVER. The dust settles on the DH campaign 2003-2004, which has seen stability restored to Red Star FC 93. For the first time since May 2000, sporting-wise at least Red Star have avoided a relegation. All that remains now of this season is the Coupe de Paris, which the players have serious hopes of winning. Firstly they must overcome a potential banana skin on the plastic pitch at Montrouge on Thursday afternoon, kick-off 3pm CET at the Stade Jean Lezer. In their last championship match, Red Stars' future opponents were on the wrong end of a 4-1 drubbing at Antony. To get to the stadium, from central Paris (or indeed Saint-Ouen, take the line 13 get off at the southern terminus of Montrouge - Châtillon, take Avenue Jean Jaurès, then right into Rue Roger Salengro befopre arriving in Rue Maurice Arnoux. About five hundred metres of walking - good for the constitution !
TO ROUND UP. Season 2003-2004 of the championship draws to a close with long-time leaders Villemomble promoted to the CFA 2 after an exceptional start to the season. Racing will have to go through the agony of play-offs to have a chance of joining Villemomble. Arménienne and Orly tried but failed to keep up with the Racingmen. Just behind, Saint-Leu and Cosmo fell back some time ago. Indeed had Red Star not been deducted four points against Aubervilliers in the Latt-Agnes affir, then they would have finished the season fifth, above St-Leu and Cosmo. At the other end, it was left until the last day of the season to decide the final relegation place, Brétigny (10th), and Versailles winning to save their skins. Going down are the reserve teams of Paris SG and Paris FC to be replaced by Morangis-Chilly and Sannois Saint-Gratien reserves. Versailles are nor completely out of the woods on or off the pitch; if Racing fail to achieve promotion and two Parisian clubs are relegated from the CFA 2 (Le Mée & Créteil still not safe)… also the club is in a precarious financial position. If they should drop out, then a place will be available to either Lusitanos or Red Star Montreuil from the DSR.

Updated 14th May 2004

COACH NAMES HIS SQUAD. Jean-Luc Girardhas named the following players for the game on Sunday at Bauer against neighbours Aubervilliers:
Germain - Dao, Diomande, Hammami, Fourneuf, Yessad, Cuervo - Budoc ou Gassama, Delaneuville, Desmarets, N’Simba - Baldé, Benmesmoudi, Gueï.
Note the return between the sticks of Mikaël Germain following a lengthy ankle injury. Glad to see him back.
Although this will be the last championship game of the season, Red Star still have an interest in the Coue de Paris, and play Montrouge away on Thursday May 20th (a public holiday here) at 3pm CET in the semi-finals.
It would be nice to end the season on a high note with a good win over Auber. Coach Girard stresses that the players are motivated to win, especially following the drab performance against PFC last weekend. Revenge however does not enter into the equation. Remember that earlier this season Red Star comprehensively beat Aubervilliers away, only to have the four points of vitory snatched away on a technicality, having played André Latt-Agnes when he wasn't entitled to play. The club were totally unaware of the players ineligibility to play. The rumour is that Auber were tipped off about Latt-Agnes when very few people were aware of his situation. Whatever, this is all in the past, as is last seasons' away encounter when a former Auber player almost put a Red Star player out of football for ever with a crude tackle. Let's hope for a resounding win for Red Star without controversy.

LET OFF. The Ligue de Paris waited virtually until the last match of the season before pronouncing on the appeals of Paris FC & Arménienne. The latter have seen their lost two points reinstated whereas PFC have lost two points meaning that they are relegated to the DSR. Initiallly closed for three matches, the suspension on their home stadium has been reduced to one - but the Parisiens have already played two matches "on the road" at Marville ! The third match will still go ahead on Sunday against Versailles at Marville, however. Arméniennes' Dickenson has had his ban reduced by one year.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY. To Claude, Red Star supporter who will be fifty years old.

LAST HOME MATCH. The under 16s are at home (Marville) on Sunday against Nancy. Final match of the season is next week at Epinal. As a curtain-raiser, at 1pm CET the Under 14s play Rouen who are two points ahead of Red Star. The aim is to finish sixth, and potentially fifth should Quevilly slip up.

Updated 13th May 2004

STILL FOR SALE. We still have a few official Red Star FC 93 tracksuits available - but only one size (1,76 m); price is thirty euros if you buy it at Stade Bauer, please mail us for details of post & packing costs.
RENDEZ-VOUS. If you're around at Bauer on Sunday, after the match Red Star FC 93 v Aubervilliers, the Collectif des Amis du Red Star are inviting members, players and club officials to a drink.
COUPE DE PARIS. On Wednesday May 19th, kick off 4pm CET (yuk !) Red Stars' under 13s play their cup semi-final at home to FC Issy.
VERSAILLES IN CRISIS. Not only is the club at the wrong end of the table, but even if the club win their important clash on Sunday at Marville against Paris FC, the club could still be relegated, or worse still disappear altogether. A debt of between 60 000 and 100 000 euros could spell the death knell for a club which the municipality appear to want to wash their hands of having a decent level of football played in the town. So Sunday could very well be the last ever game in the DH. A real pity as the stadium is quite impressive, compared to some of the ones found in the DH.
ARMENIENNE DISAPPOINTED. Arméniennes' chairman is ready to throw in the towel, disappointed by the clubs' failure to achieve promotion for the ninth consecutive season. This season the club had made extra efforts to gain promotion, but the future will have to be rather austere given the Issy clubs' sporting underachievement.

ITS GONNA BE CLOSE !. The season may be more or less over for Red Star, having sealed their place in the DH for next season, but for six other clubs Sunday is a big day. At the top, Villemomble and Racing are involved in a close fight for automatic promotion while at the other end, Brétigny, Paris SG, Versailles and Paris FC are all fighting to avoid the drop. Next season should get under way around Sunday August 22nd, and training starts the week of the 14th July. Some good news for Red Star is that goalkeeper Mikaël Germain is back in training this week, albeit gentle training. He hopes to be back before the end of the season, which will be mimimum two games remaining, three should Red Star win their Coupe de Paris semi-final.

Not just as mere spectators, but helping out, refereeing, guiding the players, offering advice... a wonderful gesture which means so much to all involved. A huge thank you to everyone involved. A day which the particpants will remember forever.
