The preparation is for the forthcoming 2005 African Youth Championships, the finals of which take place in Bénin. In the preliminary rounds, Morocco play Sierra Léone. The first match takes place on either July 17th or 18th in Rabat, with the return match on either July 31st or August 1st in Freetown. Before then, there will be matches against a D1 club, a team from Casablanca and against Egypts' youngsters in Cairo. Another honour for Red Star if young Assad represents his country.

PUBLIC MEETING. Yesterday evening, Red Star FC 93 held a public meeting at Satde Bauer. Eric Charrier, current Red Star FC 93 president anounced his stepping down as president and presented his successor, Bruno Davoine. Mr Charrier presented a summary of the season past, Jean-Luc Girard spoke about the sportign achievements whilst Mr Davoine unveiled the ambitions for the forthcoming season.
Following three relegations in as many seasons, and a trading deficit of 1.5 million euros, the new Red Star directors have put all that in the past and the club has stablised itself in the DH, as well as keeping the youth teams at a decent level. The books will been balanced at the end of June with an annual budget of 207 000 euros. Red Star FC 93 wll have more cash next season as the budget is swelled from 270 000 &to 350 000 euros. Another nice gesture is that all playing members of the club will receive an official Red Star FC 93 tracksuit. TOURNAMENT.. SO WHO IS FIKRET ?. As mentioned yesterday, Red Star is also the name of a clothing company based in Istanbul, and whose General Manager is no stranger to this site. On the right of the photo below is Fikret Özbek, along with site contributor Thérèse. As well as being a supporter of Red Star FC 93, Fikret is also a great fan of Besiktas.
WORTHWHILE FOOTBALLING LINKS. This is one that definitely merits a mention. Jer Boon, a Bristol City supporter has cycled to every match that his club has played in this season. He even did, (in his own words) "a 500 mile round-trip to Hartlepool - in January - to watch 90 minutes of rubbish Second Division football". He is trying to raise money for a very worthwhile charity, the Breast Cancer Campaign. Have a look at his website here :www.bcfcbybike.com and make a donation.

STADE BAUER - THE TROPHY DISPLAY
NEW SIGNINGS. As we mentioned yesterday, Taïeb Abdallah, one of Red Stars' exciting new signings scored last season against his new club. Ahmed Hamdani, another positive signing also "did the dirty" against Red Star by scoring Saint-Leus' second goal in the away fixture. Here are some photos of Saint-Leu v Red Star, including Ahmeds' goal, following up on a partly cleared free kick from Walquir Mota. Incidentally, Ahmed finished as Saint-Leus' top scorer with eight goals. AllezRedStar.com already noted this player when he played for Les Lilas, and in a game at Marville in the CFA, it was the early departure through injury of this player that changed the balance of play in favour of Red Star, who went on to win the game 2-0. JOSE FARIAS. Here is a photos of the former Red Star player and coach who passed away recently in action in May 1966 in the Coupe de France playing for Strasbourg, against Nantes at the old Parc des Princes. Here he is challenged by two Nantes players who later went on to be successful coaches, Suaudeau and Budzinski.
