FROM LAST NIGHTS GAME

Red Star - Sainte Geneviève-des-Bois
Benmesmoudi, Ouattara and Hamdani put on the pressure

GOOD START. Red Star obtained a fine goalless draw against Sainte-Geneviève des Bois (CFA 2) yesterday evening. The visitors, who had already played and won two pre-season friendlies (Villemomble 1-0 & Sens 3-1), proved to be a hard opposition to break down, thus giving a good test to the new-look Red Star 2004-2005. In the first half in particular, Red Star gave a very good account of themselves.
Watched by around ninety people on a balmy evening, the blend of old heads and newcomers worked very well indeed, and at times the football on show was of a very high quality. In the second half things threatened to get out of hand, with a confrontation between the Youssouf Dao and a visiting player, which ballooned into virtually all the players getting invloved. In the end things calmed down with the sensible intervention of the two coaches. Red Star should have won, they had one or two good chances in front of goal which they failed to capitalise on. On the whole, though, coach Jean-Luc Girard was satisfied with the performance.
Next up on the 4th of August is a friendly against Arménienne and then a trip away to Nogent-sur-Oise on the 8th.
NEW BOYS. This was the first outing for the new arrivals : Bell, Greg Sinobab, Ahmed Hamdani, Tandia and Ouattara, the latter a product of the under 18s of ACBB. Tarek Abdallah should join the squad at the beginning of August. Another new face was Hamdanis' brother, who will normally feature in the reserves.

Half-time breather

WELCOME BACK. For a period in the game both Yessad and Hammami had a run out, and performed capably, despite only having returned to training earlier this week.
BAD NEWS. Yann Bell, Red Stars' new goalie has recently lost his Grandfather. Our sympathies go out to Yann and his family.
BIG FRANCK. After spending half of last season in attack, Franck returns to his place in the back four, a role he performed admirably yesterday evening.
PHILIPPE CUERVO. Phil has renewed his licence with Red Star and should shortly be back in training.
BIT LATE. Due to heavy traffic on the Peripherique, the players of Sainte-Geneviève arrived just before 8pm CET and so the match got underway with half an hour delay. Featuring in their line up was ex-Red Star man Morad El Othmani. The stated aim of the club is promotion to the CFA after just missing out last season.
