The four are goalkeeper Yann Bell, defender Vincent Fourneuf, midfielder Taïeb Abdallah and young striker Aboubacar Tandia. The coach of the Parisian team is Michel Drouilhat.

RED STAR … PUTEAUX, ACCORDING TO MARCEL. Completely by coincidence, former Red Star goalie of the 1960s, Marcel Dantheny was present at the fête of Saint-Ouen on Sunday. From the town of Esbly in the Seine-et-Marne, his career took hime from Esbly to Rueil-Malmaison, taking in the two cubs whom will meet on Sunday in the Coupe de France, Red Star and Puteaux. In the previous round, Puteaux beat … Esbly 5-3. Marcel played at Puteaux for five years, at the impressive age of 42.

Epinay-sur-Seine play another DH club Lusitanos. Les Lilas have a relatively easy trip to Villeneuve-la-Garenne and Aubervilliers v Fleury-Mérogis, Saint-Denis v Le Chesnay completes the tour of local clubs.

CUP - ITS PUTEAUX. Red Star have been rewarded with a trip to Puteaux in the next round of the Coupe de France. Last time Red Star met the club from the Haute de Seine was in 1989, when the reserves drew 0-0 in the DHR. The stadium is actually situated on an island in the middle of the Seine, so any good long defensive clearances or wayward shots might end up in the river. Incidentally, Red Stars' classy defender Vincent Fourneuf should know the town of Puteaux well - he was born there.

He also played with the military squad in the Bataillon de Joinville - during the 1960s the army team played in the D2 ! He finished his pro career with Fontainebleau.
Jean-Daniel featured in the famous 1-0 win over Bordeaux in October 1971 at Saint-Ouen, where the game was won with a penalty scored by goalie Christian Laudu. Playing for the visitors that day was a youngster named Alain Giresse.

FROM YESTERDAY EVENING

23 septembre
The nights start to draw in...

Red Star will be without injured striker Ahmed Hamdani for Sundays' clash at Bauer. A win is vital to Red Star to get their promotion push back on track following a defeat at home to Le Mée and two succesive goalless draws on their travels. Last weeks 5-0 cup drubbing of Saint-Brice showed the strikers the way to their opponents goal, but visitors Arménienne are made of sterner stuff and no doubt will build a wall of white to keep Red Star at bay.
ELSEWHERE IN THE DH. Orly, travel to Le Mée Sports. Super negative side Evry play Aubervilliers, Lusitanos are at home at Saint-Maur to Versailles. Meaux, third, take on second placed Chilly-Morangis. In the Val d'Oise there is yet another derby between Sannois Saint-Gratien and Saint-Leu.
SUSPENDED. Nabile Yessad will miss the next round of the Coupe de France following last weeks' booking at Saint-Brice.
RESERVES. Red Stars' reserves are at La Colombienne this weekend. An opponent difficult to beat, as the first XI found out in last seasons' Coupe de Paris at Bauer.
UNDER 18s. David Giguet and his under 18s team will be hoping for a good result at Le Mée this weekend.

BRIAN CLOUGH

Brian Clough
Brian Clough 1935 - 2004

All at AllezRedStar.com are shocked to hear the news of the death of one of footballs' greatest ever managers, Brian Clough. A man who transformed two Midlands clubs into champions, especially Nottingham Forest, twice European Cup winners in the 1970s. Our condolencies to his family and we just like to say "thank you" to Brian for his enormous contribution to the English game. A man whose name will live forever.

FAIR PLAY. On a sunny day, in the north-west suburbs of Paris, Red Star and Saint-Brice played out an entertaining game in a good spirit, watched by around 150 spectators including a good number from Saint-Ouen. No main stand, but a pitch in beautiful condition, and no athletics track or high fence to spoil the view. Saint-Brices' future appears to be in doubt following relegation from the top level of district football last season, and an appeal against the relegation was recently rejected by the football authorities. Pity.
Red Star played in white because the home sides' normal colours are all green. The shirt carried the Red Star badge but did look a bit like a t-shirt.

The club was formed in 1973 and has around 600 members. Every Saturday and Sunday 28 teams of various age groups represent the club in local leagues. In 2003 the under 18S reached the last 32 of the Coupe Gambardella, going out to professional outfit Niort 4-3. The first team are stuggling somewhat and have been relegated to the District 1st division, where they will meet the mighty OM (Olympique de Montigny) later this season. They were unable to field a team for their first outing of the season, and last week were thumpred 4-0 at home by Sannois-Saint-Gratiens' third XI. But nevertheless Red Star will be taking this one very seriously, the cup is a great leveller as some scribe once wrote.

NEWS FROM AROUND THE GROUNDS. Le Mée Sports and Meaux, the derby of Seine-et-Marne resulted in four sendings off, two from each side. To add to the weekends Hall of Shame, a Lusitanos player also got to test the showers before the rest of his team mates. Worse, a glass bottle was lobbed in the direction of the referees. Normally this receives a heavy punishment from the Ligue de Paris (fine, ground closed...). On a more positive note, the Val d'Oise derby attracted 450 spectators, the best crowd of the day. They saw Cosmo Ermont-Taverny beat Saint-Leu and go to the top of the DH table.
COUPE DE FRANCE. On Sunday 19th September, Red Star open their Coupe de France campaign with a trip to the Val d'Oise to play Saint-Brice at the Stade L. Graffin, rue de la Forêt 95350 Saint-Brice.
RED STAR TOP OF THE LEAGUE. The reserves, at least. A fifth minute goal from Ouattara following good work by Aklouche was enough to seal the points. Elsewhere: La Colombienne - Cachan 5-2, ACBB - Cosmo 2-3, Villepinte - Le Tremblay 1-0, Poissy - Levallois 2-2, Chatou - Palaiseau 2-1.
UNDER 14S. Winners against Le Bourget (1-0), Red Star are top of the league after the opening games. Elsewhere : Chantilly - Racing 2-1, Paris FC - Lens 1-1, Avion - Vermelles 2-0, Wasquehal - Dunkerque 1-1 & Lambersart - Lille 0-2

JEAN-LUC GIRARD. « We mastered the game from start to finish, Yann Bell had nothing to do.
Against a team with five defenders and three defensive midfielders we couldn't find a way through. We tried to play football, which our supporters appreciated. The players and myself thank the supporters for their encouragement. All we need now is goals !
It's up to the players to take on responsibility in the six yard box. I'm confident, I hope that the fans are too. It's now up to our strikers do the job against Arménienne. »

UNBEATEN. Red Star are still unbeaten on their travels, and against an opponent with no idea on attacking strategy (four games, four draws !) at least Red Star tried to press forwards. The next home game is on the 26th against Arménienne (tough, tough). Before then a cup run-out against Saint-Brice.
Note that Evry used all methods possible to waste time, including strolling over to fetch a wayward shot. In the end Red Stars' Baldé did the job of the ball-boys to fetch one ball back.
Luckily Red Star have a good away following, or else the ground would have been totally empty. Also present were : Bruno Davoine (Red Star FC 93 president), Damien Paturle (SASP president) and Christian Duraincie (vice-president).
INJURIES. Red Stars' Ahmed Hamdani limped off after only ten minutes of play, returned and then in the dying seconds was injured again, leaving the pitch with a knee injury.

CHANGE. One game in the DH has been brought forwards to Saturday 11th September at 5-30pm CET: Chilly-Morangis v Lusitanos.
NEWS FROM ELSEWHERE. Former Red Star management duo Michel Moulin - Luis Fernandez are serious candidates to take over the ailing Racing Club. Fernandez is no longer coach at Espanyol, and the Colombes clus is in dire need of finance following recent problems. This season the annual injection of cash from the local council virtually disappeared in one go to repay money owed to the Social Security. The coach resigned days before the season started and the president has also relinquished control of the club. Some of last seasons' DH squad were drafted in to play - a big leap from the sixth to the third divisions just like that.

No problem of being tired, either, after having tackled & beaten the Tour de France climb of the Col de Joux-Plane in the Alps back in August !

JEAN-LUC GIRARD. « Pity, we deserved to take all four points, we were a bit clumsy (and not unlucky) in front of goal. Against one of the favourites in the league we were superior. We showed the style of play we showed during the pre-season games. This was our best performance since the start of the championship against a very physical team. Satisfied to have played the beautiful game for 90 minutes in a heatwave. »
JIMMY HAMME. AllezRedStar.com watched the game in the company Jimmy Hamme, disappointed to have missed the game through injury (tendinitis).

CLOSE.... A rare attacke from defender Nabile Yessad nearly resulted in a goal for the amiable defender. Our man was on hand to capture the build up, the shot and the seconds just after. See : here.

Jean-Luc Girard, points out the way to victory against Cosmo

With only Big Franck Gueï still out injured, and Philippe Cuervo on the way back to full fitness, Red Star have a full squad ready for Sundays' game at Taverny. The four photos below show the talented Taïeb Abdallah get a bit of shooting practice against Jonathan Beaujour, last seasons' under 18s 'keeper and son of Stade Bauers' caretaker. Meanwhile, new signing Grégori Sinobad has received clearance to play for Red Star. Note the rather natty shirt worn by Jean-Luc... a sneak preview, perhaps....?
