COUPE DE FRANCE. Red Star have been handed an away tie in the next round of the Coupe de France, at near-neighbours ROMAINVILLE. In reality Red Stars' name came out of the hat first, but as Red Star are several divsions above their opponents, the fixture was reversed. The bad news is that Romainville play on an artificial pitch, and there is no grandstand at the ground if it rains !
Other ties in the cup : Anthony - Paris FC, Palaiseau - Aubervilliers, Le Bourget - Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois, Saint-Cloud - Les Lilas, La Garenne-Colombes - Villemomble, Evry - Poissy, Meudon - Ivry, Livry-Gargan - Moissy-Cramayel, Joinville - Viry-Châtillon, La Colombienne - Noisy-le-Sec Puteaux - FC Mantois. Note that Racing are excluded from the Coupe de France this season. WEEKEND RESULTS ROUND-UP |

TRIBUTE.
RED STAR v ARMENTIERES. Coach Jean-Luc Girard was disappointed that in the first half his side failed to get to grips with a team that had merely come to Bauer with the intention of not losing. The sending off of Davidson messed things up a little but neverthess Red Star could have won the game. Girard was also very concerned with the mini-pitch invasion during the Davidson sending-off incident, and reminded supporters that Red Star risk to lose points as well as money in fines if the crowd can't behave itself.
MOVING. The Red Star crowd respected the minutes silence in memory of former player Alain Polaniok to the letter, you could hear a pin drop in Stade Bauer. Very moving indeed. As did many of his team mates, Greg was a disappointed man on Saturday after the game. Disappointed with two points lost, but also with an opponent who clearly had come with no intention of playing football. Defending deep, wasting time, even when having a numerical superiority.
RESULTS & THE TABLE. Le Havre thumped Avion to go back to the top of the table; elsewhere many draws so no real changes. Note that Red Stars' next away trip is to Arras, who won on their travels at Cambrai. The game takes place on October 8th. Next weekend Red Star should be in cup action - the draw takes place this evening. HAPPY BUNCH.
OOPS !. Meanwhile the Under 14s were on the wrong end of a 7-1 tonking at highly-fancied Lens. 2-0 in arrears after the opening minutes of the game, Red Star managed to pull one back before the flood gates opened and Lens started to run riot. More results tomorrow. |

ALSO THIS WEEK-END. Red Stars' under 14s have a big match this weekend at Stade Marville against Lens. Last week the youngsters from the north crushed Avion 4-0. TRAINING YESTERDAY. Twenty-odd players were present at last nights' training session. Absentees were Yann Bell and Taïeb Abdallah who are both on a coaches' badge training course this week. Yann has undergone physio sessions and should be ready for Saturday. Azzedine Benmesmoudi sat this one out with a foot injury, but should be back for Fridays' session. Richard Akiana took part in the session days before flying out to his club in Qatar. The reserves were also in training yesterday, with coach Francesco Scaratti on the plastic pitch at Joliot-Curie. WIN A FOOTBALL. Spectators at Stade Bauer on Saturday will have the chance to win an official Red Star FC 93 match ball. Keep your entry ticket, and at half time check to see if your ticket number has been drawn out of the hat. If so, then you'll take away a fantastic Red Star FC 93 match ball, provided by POPOVO, one of Red Stars' partners.
COUPE DE FRANCE. The draw will take place Monday and the game will be played the following Saturday or Sunday. Details on this site, obviously ! JACKY LEMEE. Red Stars' short-lived ex-coach Jacky Lemée is back in the game as coach at Angers as cover to regular coach Stéphane Paille (ex-Hearts). Paille doesn't have the necessary coaching badge, Lemée does.

RED STAR LOSE FRIENDLY. Red Star went down to a first-minute goal on Friday evening at Bauer against another CFA 2 club Viry-Châtillon. With no cup or league game this weekend, Red Star had arranged a friendly against a combative outfit from the south of the Paris region. From the outset it appeared that the visitors were more keyed up for the encounter than Red Star, and in only the first minute another woeful defensive clearance by Tounkara gifted the ball to a Viry forward who lobbed the stranded Yann Bell from the edge of the penalty area. This was to be the only goal in the game, which was dominated physically by Viry. Midway throught the first half the etiquette "friendly" appeared to be inappropriate as Red Stars' Greg Sinobad and a Viry player came to blows. The Red Star man was politely asked to leave the pitch in order to prevent any further nastiness, but his Viry counterpart somehow managed to remain for the rest of the game. Davidson really ought to have equalised but somehow contrived to slice his shot narrowly wide. Viry restorted to the offside trap whereas Red Star continued to pump hopeful long balls forwards, often resulting in the visitors' keeper having to come off his line. BOOK SIGNING. The dual authors of the new Red Star book will be present at Stade Bauer on Saturday to sing copies of their book. Price is 22 euros from the club. Buy it !! |

AU REVOIR ALAIN
All at Red Star have been shocked and saddened by the news ofthe death of former club stalwart Alain Polaniok at the eage of forty-six. Yesterday France Football carried a small article on the ex-Mantes coach who was on the lookout for a new club after terminating an eleven year spell with the club. Hard to think that only hours after reading this article that one would hear the news of his passing away. FUMIGENES. Red Star are in trouble with the FFF over the use of a fumigene during the game at Bauer against Le Havre. Note that the club will be fined because of the actions of one dick head, as fumigenes are not permitted in football grounds. If the incdident is repeated, the club runs the risk of having to play a game behind closed doors.

AVION v RED STAR.
LASSANA DOUMBYA . In an exclusive interview with AllezRedStar.com, Red Stars' burly striker Lassana Doumbya expressed his joy in getting off the mark in the goalscoring tables. Almost a year after his last goal in a competitive game (in Italy with 3rd division outfit Lumezzane), Lassana talked to us about the current Red Star saud, how it compared with the last adventure in the CFA 2 and his hopes for the season. He told us that this season Red Star have a real group spirit, and that the club is capable of playing one of the leading roles in the championship. Strong in every department, Red Star also have the ability to find goalscorers from all positions, not just the strikers. Unhappy at having missed several good chances against Le Havre, Lassana was happy with his goal at Avion and almost had a second, denied by the home goalkeeper.
AZZEDINE SECOND. With his third goal of the current campaign, Azzedine Benmesmoudi is in second spot in the goalscorers table, one behind Saint-Omers' Cuvelier (4). Also on three is Diarra (Arras). Red Star have both the best attack and defence at the moment - seven goals scored and one conceded. Other than the four goals scored by Red Star, the strikers had a lean weekend in the CFA 2 on Satuday - seventeen goals on total and six clubs failed to find the net.
RED STAR v VIRY-CHATILLON. On Friday evening Red Star have a friendly against Viry-Châtillon, from another CFA 2 group. Kick off is at 8-30pm CET at Stade Bauer, access is free. RESERVES. Eight goals conceded in two games, Red Star will have to do better to stem the flow of goals at the wrong end. Next game is on the 25th against Cosmo. Full results : |

RED STAR TOP OF THE LEAGUE ! With the excellent 4-0 win at Avion, Red Star find themselves in top spot in Group A of the CFA 2. With ex-leaders Chantilly faltering at Evreux, Red Star lead the table ahead of Le Havre reserves, whom they beat last weekend. Coach Jean-Luc Girard said it was a good match against a solid side recently relegated from the CFA. He was also pleased with the clean sheet, which means that Red Star have conceded only one goal in the first five outings (the goal conceded in the 1-0 defeat at home to Oissel). NEWS. Ex-pro Philippe Cuervo made the trip with his collegues, despite being on crutches. Philippe could be out for at least six weeks, but nevertheless he was the first to congatulate his team mates on their fine victory. Here he is pictured alongside Grégori Sinobad, his "replacement" in the side.
ALL THE SCORES: THIS WEEK. No championship game next Saturday, but training proceeds as normal. Three trainign sessions will be followed by a friendly game next Friday evening at Bauer against another CFA 2 outfit, Viry-Châtillon Kick off is at 8-30pm CET. |

CFA 2 THIS WEEKEND Le Havre (5th) are at home to Oissel (16th); Rouen (8th) v Abbeville (7th), Evreux (15th) will be hoping to beat leaders Chantilly (1st). Arras (6th) v Entente SSG (11th), Saint-Quentin (4th) play a Picardy derby against Amiens reserves (10th). Saint-Omer (12th) v Valenciennes (2nd) and finally Armentières (14th and last) are at home to Cambrai (13th). All matches take place on Saturday evening. BLAST FROM THE PAST. Coupe de France 2000 (round 8), Red Star travelled to Avion in the Cup. In front of a crowd of over 1800, Red Star laboured a little to get past their plucky opponents, en route to an eventual elimination by high-flying Lyon. Avion, in the DH at the time but on the way to a CFA 2 spot, were and still are coached by David Robitail. After twenty minutes or so Red Star took the lead through Richard Akiana, only for Avions' Favier to outsprint Ludovic Mary and fire an unstoppable shot past Branger. However, Red Star were back in front in first half injury time as Blaise Mamoun beat Wartel from the edge of the penalty area. The score remained unchaged through the second period and Red Star were through. RESERVES. On Sunday Red Stars' reserves travel to play Chatou, kick off 3-30pm CET, Stade Finaltéri in Chatou. Elsewhere the Under 18s play Paris F, kick off 1-30pm CET at the Parc des Sports in Bobigny on the same day.

CUERVO OUT. Coach Jean-Luc Girards' plans received a serious blow when it was announced that veteran midfielder Philippe Cuervo will be out of action for several weeks. The popular ex-Swindon Town man limped out of the action during the second half of the 2-0 win over Le Havre last Saturday. Despite the injury Phil has promised that he will be present at training sessions and during games to encourage his team mates. |

NORMANS CONQUERED. Red Star got back into winning ways following the reversal at home to Oissel last week with a fine 2-0 win over leaders Le Havre reserves. Jean-Luc Girard was pleased that his time had rediscovered the spirit of last season, something that scorer Davidson Charles reiterated when he spoke exclusively to AllezRedStar.com after the game. Girard was particularly pleased with he second half display, something of a reference for the season. It is true that Red Star struggled somewhat against a bright Le Havre side. The visitors have always had a good reputation for their youth academy and currently boast two of their old boys are now with Premiership outfit and current European champions Liverpool. But Red Star dug deep to find the reserves necessary to beat Le Havre, from a quality goalkeeping performance from Yann Bell to the quiet confidence of midfielder Reevis N'Simba to the inimitable Azzedine Benmesmoudi in attack, irrepressible as ever. After his goal Davidson was a new man, full of confidence taking defenders on and this is the image that will stick from this game.
SAD NEWS. Long-time supporter of Red Star Robert Dreyfus passed on just before the victory over Le Havre on Saturday. Mr Dreyfus had seen his beloved Red Star play at all levels from the first division right down to the DH and even last season was making long trips from his home in the far east of the Ile de France to home and away games. He would have been pleased with Saturdays' showing, especially as he had predicted the correct score, 2-0 to Red Star only days before. He was eighty four years old.
DECENT TURN OUT. On an evening more typical of an evening in July, after a day where temperatures had reached thirty degrees, over six hundred spectators enjoyed the win over the Normans of Le Havre. At half time Red Star introduced a new feature; a half-time draw was held with a prize of a Red Star FC 93 match ball to be won. The game will be repeated, so if you visit Bauer, hold onto your match ticket and look out to see if the number printed on the ticket is the winning one ! (Ball sponsored by the POVODO company). CFA 2 SCORES (WEEK 4) TABLE. Chantilly are the surprise package, and lead from Valenciennes and Red Star. RESERVES. Red Stars' second string came back from Ezanviille with a share of the points in a 4-4 draw. Details to follow

MORAD EYTHRIB. Despite the disappointment of a defeat last Saturday at home to Oissel, Red Stars' new striker/midfielder Morad Eythrib was pleased to be in the starting line-up of the game. The CFA 2 represents a big jump for Morad, who was perviously with La Colombienne, a club which plays in the same division as Red Stars' reserve XI. We spoke to Morad after the game, and he gave us his impression of the days' events. He said that physically the CFA 2 is far removed from the DHR, and a player must be concentrated 100% on the game, a moment of hesitation could be fatal in attack as well as in defence. He has never experienced such an intense physical preparation, but is sure that the hard work will pay off, the championship being very long. CFA 2. For once all the games take place on Saturday evening. The fixtures : Chantilly (3rd) - Rouen (4th), le gros choc de la journée. Amiens (10th) - Evreux (15th), Cambrai (13th) - Avion (6th), Entente SSG (16th) - Armentières (9th), Oissel (14th) - Saint-Quentin (7th), Valenciennes (1st) - Arras (11th) & Abbeville (5th) - Saint-Omer (12th). SQUAD. Jean-Luc Girard will announce his line-up Saturday morning, and we'll try and put in on the site as soon as possible. FROM THE PAST. The duo Nestor Combin and Fleury Di Nallo reunited at Bauer for the season 1974-75 after their legendary partnership with Lyon. This photo, along with many many more features in the new book by Pierre Laporte and Gilles Saillant which will be on sale tomorrow at the ground. After having just read this new book, AllezRedStar.com will shortly bring you a review on this site, in English.
