Red Stars' under 14s go close with a powerful header
UNDER 14S DRAW. Red Star should have beaten Lille at Marville on Sunday. On a cold day, Ali Homris' youngsters were more than a match for their illustrious opponents (Lille's first XI are currently riding high in the L1). Red Star took the lead in the second half but Lille equalised shortly afterwards. Red Star lined up as follows:
Puget (1), Litampha (2), Ceri (3), Kahïbi (4), De Arriba (5), Tape (6), Aït-Amada (7), Baquet (8), Donis (9), Salibur (10), N’Kodia (11), Traoré (12), Bellakdar (13), Catala (14)

AWARDS CEREMONY. AllezRedStar.com will be organising an awards ceremony at Stade Bauer after the game against Cambrai on Saturday evening. Everyone is welcome, admission is free. Awards will be presented to coach Jean-Luc Girard, last years' player of the year elected by our visitors, Vincent Fourneuf, and a tad late but better late than never, the award for player of the year 2003-2003 to Nabile Yessad, chosen by the editorial team of AllezRedStar.com.

PHOTO OF THE YEAR 2005. The result was never really in doubt, by a long margin the photo of the year was Gérard Valcks' photo taken at the end of the game at Bauer against Evry where Red Star sealed promotion to the CFA 2, and coach Jean-Luc Girard was carried on the shoulders of his players. A fantastic day. Many thanks to all whom voted, and congratulations to Thierry who was closest in predicting the order of the top ten.

DEFEAT. Coach Girard saw his charges lose their first away game of the season on Sunday against the reserves of Valenciennes. Two injury-time goals saw the fine run come to an end. In fairness, however, the hosts probably deserved their win, Red Star were not at their best and a lot of work remains to be done if promotion is to be achieved at the end of the season. No game this weekend, so Girard has time to rebuild any lost confidence before the game on the 4th of February at Bauer against Cambrai.
CFA 2 RESULTS.
EVREUX - SAINT-OMER : 1-2
SAINT-QUENTIN - ARRAS : 2-2
ABBEVILLE - LE HAVRE : 1-1
VALENCIENNES - RED STAR : 0-2
CHANTILLY - AVION : 1-2
OISSEL - ROEUN : 2-2
ENTENTE - CAMBRAI : 3-1
AMIENS - ARMENTIERES : match abandoned due to a floodlight failure. Amiens were leading 2-0 at the time, but according to league regulations, the victory should be awarded to the visitors.
TABLE. Despite going down at Valenciennes, Red Star still hold on to the top spot. Even if Le Havre beat Avion and draw level with Red Star, they will remain in second spot as Red Star beat them earlier this season at Bauer, 2-0. Red Stars' main rivals for promotion, Saint-Quentin and Saint-Omer are at six and seven points respectively. With many games remaining, even Valenciennes, ten points behind, could still make a late surge. Double danger as the first team are still in with a good chance of promotion to L1, thus opening the doors of the CFA to the reserves.
1. RED STAR 45 pts, 2. Le Havre (1 game in hand), 3. Entente 40 pts, 4. Saint-Quentin 39 pts, 5. Saint-Omer 38 pts, 6. Amiens 37 pts (1 game in hand), 7. Valenciennes 35 pts, 8. Oissel 34 pts, 9. Evreux 34 pts, 10. Rouen 32 pts, 11. Cambrai 32 pts, 12. Avion 32 pts (1 game in hand), 13. Arras 31 pts, 14. Abbeville 31 pts, 15. Armentières 28 pts (1 game in hand), 16. Chantilly 26 pts
Red Star caught in the Valenciennes all-out defensive trap (five defenders for a home game... speaks volumes)
ECHOS. Captain Reevis N'Simba was forced to site the game out through injury and defender Nabile Yessad was promoted captain for the day. Also present in the stands were Philippe Cuervo, Amine Chamma and Mohamed Aklouche. "Stands" may be a tad optimistic, as the stadium at Marly, where Valenciennes' reserves play is somewhat tiny: just one small stand, no seated places, but sufficient for the hundred or so spectators whom turned out, about one third from Saint-Ouen. Marly, the resident club used to play in the CFA2, but financial problems forced them to drop to regional level.
Waiting for a bus ? No, the stand at Marly !
HALF-WAY POINT. Looking at the current league placings of the "amateur" clubs in the CFA2 we have the following situation:
1. RED STAR
2. Saint-Quentin 6 pts behind
3. Saint-Omer 7 pts
4. Oissel & Evreux 11 pts
6. Cambrai & Avion 13 pts (Avion 1 game in hand)
8. Arras & Abbeville 14 pts
10. Armentières 17 pts (1 game in hand)
11. Chantilly 19 pts
In the remaining matches, Red Star are at home to : Saint-Quentin, Cambrai, Avion, Arras & Chantilly and travel to Saint-Omer, Oissel, Evreux, Abbeville & Armentières. As for the reserve teams, at Bauer are Valenciennes and Rouen and on their travels, Le Havre, Amiens and Entente SSG.
TOP SCORERS. Two Red Star players lead the way:
1. Benmesmoudi : 9 goals
2. Doumbya : 8 goals
3. Tétard (Evreux) & Canédo (Saint-Quentin) : 7 goals
5 Cuvelier (Saint-Omer) : 6 goals
6 Idançar (Valenciennes), Massouké (Rouen), Danset (Valenciennes) : 5 goals

JAMES KEENAN. Due to the current events at the club (the Cuzingate affair), we have had to postpone publication of our special page on former player James Keenan, whose great-granddaughter Cheryl contacted us with some details on his life. Next week we will publish the article, but for starters here's a photo of the Red Star 1937-1938 side featuring Mr Keenan

SO WHAT IS HAPPENING AT RED STAR ?. If you have visited the French version of the site recently then you may have understood that all is not well behind the scenes at Red Star FC 93. Basically, this is what has happened since Saturday morning.
Saturday morning - Stade Bauer held the AGM of the club, where the directors outline the achievements of the past year as well as the aims of the year ahead. It is also the chance for all the members of the club to air their opinions. After president Bruno Davoine described the structure of the club - 566 members including 462 players of which 409 play outside of the two senior sides - 23 teams -76% of the players live in the Seine-Saint-Denis region and 27% in Saint-Ouen itself - 72 supervisors - 25 youth coaches - 1 coach/sporting director - 5 referees - 1 sport employee.
Financially Red Star get their money from the local authority and two main sponsors - Paprec (50000 euros) and Debuschère (50000 euros). Note that these two companies are owned or partly owned by Mr Davoine and a fellow-director. The total budget for the season is 489500 euros as opposed to 368224 euros in 2004-2005. For a CFA 2 club, a reasonably good sum.
Here it started to go wrong. Friend Gérard Cuzin, who has a record with Red Star going back to the dark days of the previous junta and Stade Marville intervened and started to contest the validity of certain accounting figures amongst others. Certain members of the audience also joined in and sided with Cuzin. The topic drifted over to the subject of a lack of materials and resources. Then, drama of dramas, first team coach rather surprisingly spoke out asking for a change of director and proposing a replacement - none other than Mr Gérard Cuzin !
Mr Davoine and vice-president Mr Eric Charrier stated that it was not on the order of the day to change a president and that the committee of directors had been democratically elected for a spell of four years, and this meeting was not intended to change affairs. A stormy end to the meeting.
Saturday evening was of course the game versus visitors Abbeville, played in a rather strange atmosphere. The rumours had emerged from the meeting, sometimes mis-reported and/or misunderstood and on the terraces a small minority of the Red Star supporters started to reclaim the resignation of the directors. Mr. Charrier went to try and discuss and clarify the situation with them, but in some cases the hotheads didn't really want to listen. Throughout the game the fans chanted the name of the coach, in support of him.
Red Star scored from the penalty spot, the players ran straight across to Girard to celebrate with him. At the final whistle same again, and the usual handshakes with the supporters.
Monday, coach Girard was summoned to a meeting with Mr Davoine where the latter continued to back his coach despite the Cuzingate affair. Le Parisien ran an article on the situation, and in an interview Bruno Davoine publicly gave a vote of confidence to Girard as coach (not over the Cuzingate affair) and reiterated that the club is not for sale - there is no talk of a merger with Entente Sannois-Saint-Gratien (described as a club without soul and history) - former ESSG boss Didier Caignard had not been approached with a view of taking over from Girard - finally emphasising the financial commitment that had been made by the current directors to Red Star.
The Red Star, as a source close to AllezRedStar.com said would not be Red Star if it were not for affairs like this ! Hopefully now the club can put this sordid affair behind it and come out stronger for the experience. Another attempted putsch has been thwarted, Red Star can concentrate on the most important - getting promotion from the CFA 2.

KNOCK. Defender Abrahim Tounkara limped off during the second half with a pain at the back of the thigh. Meanwhile Nabile Yessad was in the stands as a spectator serving a one-match ban. He should be back in the reckoning for a place at Valenciennes this weekend. Another face in the crowd was former striker Philippe Marques now plying his trade with local outfit Blanc Mesnil. His side are on course for promotion to the DH.

those days. The events made the front pages of the sporting
publications and from our archives here are some photos.
