FINE WIN FOR RED STAR. Red Star games have followed a pattern in recent seasons, with several notable exceptions of course, but this season, it could be said that if Red Star score first, and early on in the game, then the task of winning is made a lot simpler. Not always true, as the home defeat to Amiens proved. But at Cambrai and Avion, then the theory held true. The Verts have an annoying habit of struggling to find a breakthrough before the opposition scores on the break.
However, unlike Oissel, whom pulled this stunt off twice this season, Avion, despite holding the home strikers for an hour at Bauer on Saturday, eventually cracked to Red Stars' patience and Lassana Doumbya and the inevitable Azzedine Benmesmoudi were on hand to earn four very valuable points.
This weekend, some of Red Stars' true rivals failed to keep the pressure up. Valenciennes and Saint-Omer, the former possibly the greater threat left the goal nets undisturbed at Marly whereas Saint-Quentins' trip to Amiens fell victim to the weather. Le Havre and Oissel also failed to feature on the played fixtures list.
- RED STAR - AVION : 2-0
- VALENCIENNES - SAINT-OMER : 0-0
- CAMBRAI - ARMENTIERES : 0-0
- ABBEVILLE - ROUEN : 2-2
- CHANTILLY - EVREUX : 0-1
- OISSEL - LE HAVRE : postponed
- AMIENS - SAINT-QUENTIN : postponed
- ENTENTE - ARRAS : postponed
THE TABLE. 1. RED STAR 54 pts (1 game in hand), 2. Le Havre 54 pts (1 game in hand), 3. Valenciennes 47 pts, 4. Saint-Omer 47 pts, 5. Saint-Quentin 45 pts (2 games in hand), 6. Entente 44, 7. Amiens 43 pts (1 game in hand), 8. Rouen 42 pts, 9. Oissel 42 pts (2 games in hand), 10. Evreux 42 pts, 11. Avion 39 pts, 12. Arras 38 pts (1 game in hand), 13. Abbeville 38 pts (1 game in hand), 14. Cambrai 37 pts (1 game in hand), 15. Armentières 35 pts (2 games in hand), 16. Chantilly 33 pts
Red Stars' next opponents Armentières have two games in hand, so their current lowly position in the table is somewhat misleading.
Coach Jean-Luc Girard said after the game that he had expected Avion to try and shut Red Star out with defensive tactics, and on a difficult surface his men failed to impose their game. The keyword was patience, and although his charges failed to bear in mind this concept at Oissel, here the lesson of Oissel was learned. Once the breach was broken and the first goal scored, then the task became easier. Very satisifed with the result and the performance of his team.
Solid defender Bilal Hammami also underlined the difference between a footballing side like Le Havre and Avion and looked forwards to continuing the run at Armentières.
Youngster Assad Béhiche was suffering with an injured shoulder but was also pleaed with the win. Striker Lassana Doumbya joked that despite scoring a goal, he can't seem to outscore fellow striker Azzedine Benmesmoudi.
During the game influential skipper Reevis N’Simba had to limp out of the action after thirty five minutes, his place taken by Grégori Sinobad. Vincent Fourneuf took over the captains' arm band. Popular veteran Philippe Cuervo also missed out on the game with a thigh injury.

BACK TO WINNING WAYS. Red Star returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-0 victory on Saturday over league leaders Le Havre reserves. In doing the double over the Normans, Red Star are four points behind with a game in hand.
Played on a heavy pitch not really suitable to flowing football, Red Star took the lead at a critical point in the game, Davidson Charles firing home after excellent work from the industrious Lassana Doumbya. Whilst Red Stars' leading marksman Azzedine Benmesmoudi failed to get on the scoresheet, his rival for the crown of top scorer Doumbya joined him with a well-taken second goal in the second half, with the game in the balance. Sub Alhaji Baldé came very close in the dying seconds with a header. Nice to see the return in the starting line-up of Big Franck Gueï, whilst youngster Assad Béhiche wore the number eight shirt and played a holding / recuperator role in the style of Didier Deschamps. Taïeb Abdallah dropped down to the subs' bench following a weeks' intensive physical educators' training course.
Under pressure coach Jean-Luc Girard was quick to praise his entire squad, for what was a real group performance on a very difficult playing surface.

CAMBRAI GAME REARRANGED. The postponed game at Bauer against Cambrai has been arranged for Saturday 18th March 2006, kick off 6pm CET.
EDITORIAL. Following two dismal defeats against Valenciennes and Oissel, Red Star have a very difficult task to lift morale with a trip to leaders Le Havre. In the game earlier at Bauer this season Red Star won 2-0, first weathering the storm before hitting the visitors on the counter attack before doubling the lead in the second half. This time out things will not be straightforward; the club is in a mini-crisis with deteriorating conditions between the directors and the coach, and supporters divided amongst themselves on who is responsible for the poor atmosphere at Red Star.
Le Havre are a superb outfit, their home record is impeccable with only two draws spoiling an otherwise unblemished record.
The game will not take place at their usual home, but at the Cavée Verte, their former home from 1914 to 1970. Le Havre are the oldest of all the French clubs, 125 years of existence and take their colours of light and dark blue from those of two British universities, Oxford & Cambridge. The origins of Le Havre have a strong English influence, too.

NEW FACE AT SAINT-OUEN (1). During last Saturdays' meeting of the coaching staff (where Jean-Luc Girard, ostensibly the man in charge failed to turn up), club President Bruno Davoine confirmed that the club as on the look out for a co-ordinator for the youth teams, from the Football School right up to the Under 18s. Yesterday, Red Star FC 93 unveiled the new man as former Racing CP coach Eric Santamaria.
Born in Montreuil-sous-Bois on the 19th October 1964, Mr Santamaria started his playing career with the youngsters of the AS Police Paris. From 1979 to 1993, he was a player at Aubervilliers before finishing his career in works' football. His coaching career started out parallel to his playing days; firstly with the Cadets at Aubervilliers (1989-92), the Under 17s (1992-98) before moving south of the river to coach the Under 17s and 18s at Ivry-sur-Seine. In 2004, Eric Santamaria joined Racing where overnight he was propelled to the head of the first team, then in the National, following the departure of the then coach. Difficult times at Racing where he was caretaker manager.
NEW FACE AT SAINT-OUEN (1). Red Star have also been strengthened in the administrative department, where Clyde Fleming will be on hand to assist Christian Héricher.
OISSEL v RED STAR PREVIEW After two consecutive defeats Evreux and Cambrai, Oissel have put together three straight wins in disposing of Amiens, Chantilly and Armentières; then came defeat against in-form Valenciennes and two draws against Entente & Rouen. The Normans have failed to win at the Stade Marcel Billard since November 13th. Oissel appear therefore to be stronger on their travels, as they proved earlier in the season where a Bezzou goal was enough to beat Red Star at Stade Bauer. They currently lie eighth in the table with six wins, two draws, six defeats and fifteen goals scored and conceded. The game on Saturday afternoon will be officiated by Olivier Bensadoun and with David Gervais & Thierry Laurent as his assistants.

COMMENTS. Unbeknown to your editorial team (and to the clubs' directors !) coach Jean-Luc Girard had scheduled a practice match on the platic pitch at Stade Joliot Curie on Saturday afternoon against Racing. Red Star won 3-2 but not before Alhaji Baldé and Nabile Yessad limped off injured.
We hope that this is an oversight on Girards' part and nothing to do with the current stand-off between the Red Star coach and the directors.
Whilst all this was going off, Red Stars' management and the youth coaches held a meeting at Stade Bauer to clear the air and to let the "men on the ground" express any grievances or problems they might have. The meeting was very constructive and on their part Red Stars' directors are looking to employ a Technical Director responsible for the youth teams. Coach Girard currently shares this role in addition to his responsibilities as first team coach.
COMING UP THIS WEEKEND. Red Star have an extremely tough task away to Oissel, and will be looking to avoid a second successive defeat. Le Havre who have leap-frogged Red Star to go top of the table are at home to Cambrai; Saint-Quentin are at home to Evreux; Saint-Omer travel to Chantilly. Valenciennes, the main danger to Red Star now that their first XI are on course for a return to L1 will be looking to beat wooden-spoonists Armentières.

Updated 3rd February 2006

GAME IN DOUBT. In view of the recent cold weather conditions that the city has experienced, the game on Saturday at Bauer is doubtful. There will be a pitch inspection tomorrow morning and a decision is expected around lunch time. We will keep you posted.
Note that if the game is postponed, the AllezRedStar.com awards ceremony will be postponed until a later date
Meanwhile, at yesterdays' training session, Club President Bruno Davoine addressed the players, congratulating them for the ir achievements so far this season, confirming the clubs' faith in coach Jean-Luc Girard and reiterating the fact the club is not up for sale and there are no merger talks going on with any othe club.
Also this week the FFF appeared to have reached a decision on the Le Havre - Avion game; finally the game will not be replayed and Le Havre therefore take back the four points that they had previously lost. This makes the current league table look something like this:
1. RED STAR 45 pts, 2. Le Havre 45 pts, 3. Entente 40 pts, 4. Saint-Quentin 39 pts, 5. Saint-Omer 38 pts, 6. Amiens 37 pts (1 game in hand), 7. Valenciennes 35 pts, 8. Oissel 34 pts, 9. Evreux 34 pts, 12. Avion 33 pts, 11. Rouen 32 pts, 12. Cambrai 32 pts, 13. Arras 31 pts, 14. Abbeville 31 pts, 15. Armentières 28 pts (1 game in hand), 16. Chantilly 26 pts.
Normally the game Amiens - Armentières, abandoned due to a floodlight failure will be awarded to the visitors..
