Updated 31st March 2006

VICTORY FOR RED STAR !. ...but not on the pitch. The Law Courts in Bobigny announced their decision on the case Red Star FC 93 v M. Gérard Cuzin this week. Good news for Red Star, the courts found nothing illegal or unethical in the current running and the finances of the club. Therefore M. Cuzins' case was effectively thrown out.
The litigation revolved around several points; payments between the two bodies running the club (the Association, set up to run the club as an amateur club and the SASP established for when the club turns professional); A deficit at the food bar; the election of President Davoine and the Committee of Directors being the major bones of M. Cuzins' case.
The only thing that the club need to do is to appoint a treasurer within two months, and the court appointed a bailiff to ensure that this is carried out. Half of the cost of the bailiff will have to be paid by M. Cuzin.
Reactions to the decision were one of quiet confidence on Red Stars' side and a certain bitterness on the side of the defeated party.
The important thing is that this unsavoury event is put in the past, and all at the club should now be focussed on the most important point, that is taking the club forwards and into the CFA come May.
The decision was announced to the two parties midway through Wednesday afternoon. However, as part of their mid-day local news broadcast, France 3 TV incorrectly announced that an administrator had been appointed by the court to run Red Star (effectively saying that M. Cuzin had won). This sent a shock wave through the club, and although the TV company broadcast a rectification yesterday, the general gist of their position is still not as clear as it should be.
Red Stars' next game is at home tomorrow to Rouens' reserve XI kick off 6pm CET). Missing will be ace marksman Azzedine Benmesmoudi and the suspended defender Vincent Fourneuf. Earlier this season Red Star were held to a 1-1 draw in Normandy.
MIDWEEK RESULTS. Amiens reserves almost did Red Star a favour on Wednesday evening, but the goalless draw against Red Stars' nearest rivals Saint-Quentin is a bonus all the same to Red Star. Oissel were drubbed 1-3 at home to Le Havre who are now clear leaders and for Patrice Heulmés side, only a miracle can help them to promotion. Le Havre go top, but as their first XI are mid-table in L2 with no real prospects of promotion to L1 theire reserves can win the championship of CFA 2 but will not be promoted. Red Star must forget them now, but can be happy having twice beaten Frances' oldest club twice this season. Finally on Wednesday Evreux beat Abbeville 2-0.
Red Stars' main rivals are now Saint-Quentin and Valenciennes assuming the latters' first team can maintain promotion push to the top flight. Saint Quentin still have to travel to Stade Bauer.
1. LE HAVRE 64 pts (21 matchs), 2. RED STAR 61 pts (22), 3. Saint-Quentin 57 pts (21), 4. Valenciennes 52 pts (21), 5. Entente 51 pts (21), 6. Amiens 51 pts (21), 7. Saint-Omer 51 pts (22), 8. Oissel 49 pts (20) ….
ALLEZREDSTAR.COM AWARDS. Don't forget that after Saturdays' game, the AllezRedStar.com awards ceremny takes place in the club house. Rewarded will be Vincent Fourneuf (player of the year 2004-2005), Jean-Luc Girard for his on-field efforts last season and a tad belatedly Nabile Yessad (season 2002-2003).

OFFICIALS Sébastien Crampon will be the man with the whistle at Bauer, and will be assisted by Luc Chevereau and Gérard Tardy. The latter pair were on duty for Red Stars' historic game last season at Bauer against Evry (2-0). Louis Vincenti and Maurice Charreire are the fourth officials for the Rouen game.

ALSO IN THE CFA 2. Leaders Le Havre are at home to Saint-Omer, Valenciennes will have to be on guard against another pro reserve, Amiens; Cambrai take on Evreux; Avion v Arras; Oissel v Armentières; Abbeville v Chantilly. Finally local rivals Entente SSG could do Red Star a favour by beating Saint-Quentin.

RED STAR ESCAPE WITH DRAW. Red Stars' long trip to Saint-Omer ended with an own goal, a late equaliser, the star striker sent off from the subs' bench, a minor pitch invasion and a victory for their closest rivals.
In the first half Red Star really should have put the game beyond the reach of their opponents, but some solid defending and a degree of maladroitness in front of goal kept the scoreboard blank. One minute after the pause with Red Stars' travelling army of supporters still regaining their places in the stand, Red Stars' centre half Vincent Fourneuf lobbed his own goalkeeper Yann Bell to give the home side the lead. Coach Girard made several changes, and one of his substitutes Alhaji Baldé celebrated his recent birthday in style placing his fine header beyond the reach of the Saint-Omer goalkeeper with only ten minutes reMayning.
After four minutes of stoppage time the game ended in disarray with Red Stars' striker Azzedine Benmesmoudi, who had already been substituted being red carded following a remonstration with an official. Several Red Star supporters entered on to the playing area and one of them duly received a clout for his troubles. The fourth official has made his report on these incidents and Red Star could expect further punishment.

Meanwhile coach Jean-Luc Girard stressed that Red Star are still at the top of the league and thanked the supporters for their encouragments.
Azzezdine Benmesmoudi will face a two-match ban, but at the same time the enforced break could enable him to see a specialist about a foot injury that he has been carrying for several games. In case of surgery, Azzedine could be missing for up to a month.
CFA 2 RESULTS. Chantilly appear to have one foot in the DH already folloiwng another home defeat, 0-1 to Oissel. Avion fight on with a 2-2 draw at Armentières 2-2. Rouen, Red Stars' next opponents faield at home, going down 3-1 to a resurgent Cambrai. Red Stars' nearest opponents Saint-Quentin disposed of another risk to Red Stars' chances, Valenciennes, 3-0. Le Havre could only play out a goalless draw at Arras 0-0, whils Entente SSG and Evreux drew 1-1. In the Somme derby, Amiens beat Abbeville 1-0.
LEAGU TABLE. 1. RED STAR 61 pts (22), 2. Le Havre 60 pts (20), 3. Saint-Quentin 55 pts (20), 4. Valenciennes 52 pts (21), 5. Entente 51 pts (21), 6. Saint-Omer (22), 7. Amiens 49 pts (19), 8. Oissel 48 pts (19), 9. Cambrai 47 pts (21), 10. Arras 46 pts (21), 11. Rouen 44 pts (21), 12. Evreux 44 pts (20), 13. Armentières 43 pts (20), 14. Abbeville 42 pts (21), 15. Avion 42 pts (21), 16. Chantilly 36 pts (21).
SAINT-QUENTIN. Red Stars' nearest challengers have a midweek game this week away to neighbours Amiens. Their run-in to the end of the season looks like this:
- 29th March : Amiens - Saint-Quentin
- 1st April : Entente - Saint-Quentin
- 8th April : Saint-Quentin - Cambrai
- 15th April : Saint-Quentin - Chantilly
- 22nd April : Red Star - Saint-Quentin
- 29th April : Saint-Quentin - Le Havre
- 6th May : Avion - Saint-Quentin
- 13th May : Saint-Quentin - Armentières
- 20th May : Arras - Saint-Quentin

SUSPENSIONS. Vincent Fourneuf will follow the game on Saturday at Bauer between Red Star and Rouen from the grandstand. After the game he will of course receive the prestigious AllezRedStar.com Player of the Year 2004-2005 in the Club House. Defender Bilal Hammami will also be suspended whilst Franck Gueď was limping towards the end of the game and could be doubtful for Saturday.

FOOT FRANCILIEN. The magazine of the Ligue de Paris « Foot Francilien » carries an interview with Red Stars' president, Bruno Davoine. The interview covers the current off-pitch problems and the row between the management and other factions. M. Davoine again stresses that there is no truth in the rumours of fusion with Sannois-Saint-Gratien and that the directors and dedicated to their previously stated aims for Red Star. M. Davoine speaks honestly and openly, a far cry from the dark days of the previous junta and also from the confused claims of some of the clubs' current detractors.
RED STAR AGAINST DISCRIMINATION . Last week, Henrik Manninen, a student journalist was in Saint-Ouen as part of a project that he is currently undertaking for an article on discrimination in sport. He met Red Stars' supporters and also posed question on Red Stars' position on the subject to club president Bruno Davoine.

LADIES TO THE FORE. Whilst not directly connected to Red Star, and at the same time somewhat neglected by the press, last Saturday an otherwise run of the mill CFA 2 encounter in Paris between Levallois and Hagueneau took signifact proportions in as much as the game was refereed by a team of three ladies, Sarah Girard assisted by Stéphanie Frappart and Valérie Boulestin. The latter two are no strangers to Stade Bauer, having officiated several times. An initiative to be congratulated and bravo to the ladies !

NSIMBA BACK. Red Star will be boosted for their crucial trip to Saint-Omer by the return of vastly influential skipper Revis N'Simba, sidelined by injury since the win at home to Avion. Reevis has been sorely missed and hopefully with his return Red Star can get back to winning ways.

OFFICIALS. Saturdays' game will be officiated by Monsieur Giovanni Richard assisted by Messieurs Carlos Monteiro & Hamid Guenaoui
IN THE CFA 2 THIS WEEKEND. All the games kick off on Saturday except for Rouen - Cambrai, programmed for Sunday. Chantilly get things underway and will be desperate for a result at home to Oissel. Evreux also need to take four points from Entente SSG. Arras could do Red Star a favour and beat Le Havre, whilst in the Somme there is a derby in prospect between Amiens and Abbeville. Armentières are at home to Avion. The game Saint-Quentin v Valenciennes kicks off half an hour before the Red Star game, so Red Star might have a clue there in what their Mayn rivals are up to.

RED STAR SCRAPE DRAW. Red Star now are three games without a win following another draw at Bauer on Saturday evening against a compact Cambrai outfit. The home side really should have taken the lead early in the game when a pildriver from Franck Gueď flew just over the bar, but after this Girards' men slumped into a lifeless performance, incapable of stringing two passes together. Visitors Cambrai took the lead on sixty five minutes and a small group of tossers in the crowd started calling for the resignation of Red Stars' directors. These uninformed types were jumping for joy however when later in the game likeable defender Nabile Yessad was on hand to give Red Star a rare equaliser, something they have not earned in a very long time.
With Saint-Quentin only drawing at home to Oissel, Red Star get out of jail somewhat with this result.

OFF THE PTICH. Red Star have been making the headlines in the press recently, and not for the right reasons, it has to be said. Last Wednesday the clubs' directors were summonned to appear before the court in Bobigny after former committee member, Gérard Cuzin demanded a legal investigation into the financial affairs of the club.
Cuzin, former right-hand man of ex-president Bras, brought back into the fold at the start of the 2004-2005 season has prepared a dossier which basically poses questions about the state of finances at the snack bar as well as movements of money between the non-profit making Association and the SASP, the part of the company designed to run a professional sporting club.
After a late start to the procedings at which several Red Star supporters were present, both sides presented their cases, with lawyers to the fore. The judge then gave the date of March 29th when he will announce his decision. Three outcomes are likely; one, the judge will decide in favour of the club; two, the judge will refer a decision a higher court and three he will decide in favour of Cuzin and the club risks being thrown into turmoil.
The local press and television were on hand to report on the case; France 3s' TV report has been derided by many supporters; the reporter described Red Star as a "handful of die-hards in a falling-down stadium". Hmm.
Meanwhile at the club the atmosphere is atrocious with each camp continuing to pursue its daily business with little interaction. Coach Girard is under pressure on and off the pitch with Red Stars' dismal sequence of results (two wins in six games and the chasing pack catching up rapidly). Earlier this season at the club AGM Girard threw his lot in with Cuzin in a failed attempt to seize control of the club. President Davioine has confirmed his confidence in Girard sporting-wise despite this putsch but should the poor run continue then decisions will have to be made.
Quite why this all blew up in mid-season is open to speculation; many feel that the leaders of the coup should have waited until the end of the season. More to follow.... Red Star wouldn't be Red Star without the odd crisis now and then !

ANOTHER CANCELLATION ?. With the weather in Paris unsettled, and pitches heavy from the persistant rain, Saturdays' encounter at Bauer against Arras is in doubt. Already the fixture between Le Havre and Armentières has been called off. More postponements are likely to follow. AllezRedStar.com will keep you posted of developments to avoid a wasted trip.
Should the game go ahead the match officials will be Franck Schneider, referee from the Ligue d’Alsace, aged 26, and he will be assisted by Alain Lissorgue & Stéphane Gandrille. Monsieur Lissorgue is a familiar face to Red Star; last season he officiated in the 1-0 opening day win at Meaux as well as the classic 2-1 last-gasp victory at Saint-Leu. He also ran the line in this seasons' goalless draw at home to Armentières, when Davidson Charles received his marching orders.
In the CFA 2 this weekend, the matches scheduled are : Chantilly are at home to Amiens; Cambrai v Saint-Omer; Saint-Quentin travel to Abbeville and on Sunday Valenciennes welcome Evreux. Entente v Rouen & Oissel v Avion are the reMayning fixtures. RED STAR GAMES THIS WEEKEND.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RED STAR ! Red Star celebrate their 109th birthday on Sunday 12th March. True to form, as has been the case throughout these years, the club finds itself in a state of turmoil. Here's hoping that these issues are soon resolved and that the club can continue to celebrate future birthdays !

Updated 8th March 2006

NEWS ROUND-UP FROM RED STAR. Firstly apologies for the delay in updating the news page; however we're back and there is much to report on and off the pitch.
Firstly, the ongoing debacle with the stand-off between the first team coach Jean-Luc Girard and the clubs directors. The appearance before the courts in Bobigny, as demanded by Monsieur Cuzin, has been deferred until the 15th of March. Legal reasons prevent us from commenting upon this affair, but the man whom tried to sieze control of the club in an aborted putsch during the AGM of Red Star back in January has demanded an investigation into the accounts of Red Star.
Meanwhile, club president M. Bruno Davoine has stepped down as administrator of the SASP side of Red Star, citing an incompatibility in his roles in both the SASP and the club presidency as a reason. M. Davoine is still club president and has once again reiterated his faith sporting-wise in first team coach Girard.
The local rag Le Parisien is having a field day, reporting in the misadventures of the club, whereas when all is going well at Red Star, articles are somewhat limited in their depth, let's just say. To quote the great Elvis (Costello, that is) "Yesterdays' news is tomorrows' fish and chip papers..."
A first team coach under pressure following Red Stars' third defeat in five games at lowly Armentières, a side that Red Star struggled to break down earlier this season at Bauer. From all accounts the home side deserved their win, and the four points that they badly needed lifts them away from the danger zone. Red Star still lead the table, but are under pressure as most of their rivals didn't even play this weekend, a fixture list decimated by the awful climactic conditions.
One sign of relief for Red Star, however, is that one of their closest amateur rivals Saint-Omer were on the wrong end of a 5-1 thumping at home to Parisian suburbs' outfit Entente SSG reseves.
Also on Saturday there was a further meeting of Red Stars' youth team coaches, at which , Messrs J. Zubelli & M. Diawara resigned from their posts.
