APOLOGIES. For the somewhat erratic nature of the availability of France's top football internet site, but Lycos have been upgrading their servers and as we are dependant upon them for our site hosting, at times the site was unavailable. Hopefully the work has now finished successfully, so you can fully enjoy www.allezredstar.com, by far and away the best footie internet site in the country !
COUPE DE FRANCE. The long road to the Stade de France begins for Red Star with a trip across the city to play PH outfit VILLEJUIF. They may play five divisions below Red Star, but in the cup anything can happen and Red Star will have to be on their guard if an upset is to be avoided. A good cup run this season would help the Saint-Ouen club, especially if they can progress and pull a "big" club out of the hat. Note that normally Villejuif play on an artificial surface; this may not be acceptable for the Coupe de France, and the venue may yet change. AllezRedStarcom will keep you informed of any developments. Rendez-vous, Sunday 8th October, 3pm CET in Villejuif. WEEKEND RESULTS |

DISMAL. Red Star return from another long trip to Brittany with nothing to show for it, apart from a potential long suspension for striker Greg Lefort, send off as he was making his way back to the touchline after being substituted. He is alleged to have said something about the referee as he left the pitch. It took a mere five minutes for the home side to take the lead, some awful defending gifting a bad clearance to a Plabennec striker who whacked the ball home from a good twenty yards. Red Star were completely invisible in the first period and a fine move ten minutes before the break saw Boulain double the lead. Although Red Star were much brighter in the second period, the sending off of Lefort compounded with a two goal handicap was too much to surmount and the third goal in injury time merely added insult to injury. LONG JOURNEY AHEAD. Tomorrow morning, Red Star make a very long away trip to far-off Britanny to face Vitré, a club that finished effectively third last season (if reserve teams are not counted). In the Coupe de France last season Vitré reached the last sixteen before going out to L1 club Lille 0-2. Coach Bruno Naidon will have the returning Cédric Rogin available and following this evenings' training session the picture will be clearer for the availability of the injured players Khaled Kemas, Grégory Lefort and Eugène Kangulungu. Because of the Inter-Companies Tournament organised by Red Star this evening at Bauer and Joliot-Curie, Red Star will be training using the facilites in nearby Pierrefitte. Tomorrow morning the players' bus sets off early in the morning to make the 325km trip to Vitré. Next week there will be a TGV train provided to make the enormously long trip to Plabennec.

NO GOALS BUT PLENTY TO TALK ABOUT. Watched by over a thousand spectators, Red Star were held to a goalless draw by Paris Saint-Germains' reserve team. Grégory Lefort was denied by the visitors' goalkeeper and Renaud Miherre flashed a shot narrowly wide after a slick build up move. In the second half the Parisiens were the stronger and almost won the game with a head-on from a free kick, and Red Stars' Yoann Djidonou made a remarkable one-handed save to keep out the visitors. Red Star keep their unbeaten run going and also notch up their third clean sheet of the season, but the missing Kemas and Rogin up front meant that attacking possibilities were always going to be limited even though the introduction of Geoffroy Da Costa midway through the second half did provide alternatives. Featured in the PSG line-up was the stocky Uruguayan Christian Rodriguez, who has already featured in several first-team games since his arrival in the capital. Rodriguez posed problems to the Red Star defence, especially in the latter period of the game.

LAST GASP EQUALISER DENIES RED STAR. It took a last-minute equaliser for the home side to deny Bruno Naidons' heroic Red Star a fine away victory at Rouen on Saturday. Watched by a crowd of over 2000, Red Star took the lead with their first real attack of the game, Greg Lefort spinning on the penalty spot to lash home a volley. Rouen pressed and pressed and although Red Star held out for nearly an hour, in the dying seconds of the game substitute Duhamel bundled the ball into the net to earn a draw. There was a hint of hand ball in the initial control of the ball, but perhaps on the balance of play a draw was a fair result. For Red Star the result is nevertheless a positive one, Rouen being one of the pre-season favourites for the title. Prior to the game, there were one or two minor incidents between the two sets of supporters, but in general the match went off without a major incident. |
