COUPE DE FRANCE. The draw has just been made for the next round of the Coupe de France and Red Star have been awarded a potential banana skin with a trip across the city to play US PALAISEAU, who play in the DSR, one division above Red Stars' reserves and three below the first XI. Worse, Palaiseau are unbeaten this season from their first five league games. So far in the cup they have beaten teams from lower divisions than themselves. This is a great chance for them to take a "big" scalp. Average attendances for home games is around the 150 mark, nothing special.
RED STAR CUT IT FINE. Striker was the hero in Red Stars' late late 2-2 home draw against Rennes' reserves on Saturday evening. After a minutes' silence in honour of former striker Christian Massard, the home fans had barely the time to get settledd before the visitors opened the scoring following some shoddy defending. Worse was to come twenty-five minutes later as Red Star conceded a penalty and Rennes doubled their advantage. In the second half Red Stars' task became almost mission impossible as key player Cédric Rogin received a second yellow and faced an early bath. With four minutes remaining a long hoofed clearance from goalkeeper Yoann Djidonou found Greg Lefort. His first touch was not perfect, but he still managed to swing a foot at the ball and it looped into the net. As the home fans filed out of the ground, deep into injury time a hand was adjudged to have touched the ball in the Rennes penalty area. Up stepped Lefort and despite the pressure, his spot kick beat the visitors 'keeper to earn an improbable draw.

CHRISTIAN MASSARD. AllezRedStar.com is sad to announce the passing away yestarday of former Red Star favourite from the 1980s, Christian Massard. The burly striker was a key element in the rebirth of Red Star at the start of the 80s, his goals being vital as Red Star rose from the DH to the second division. He turned out in a Red Star shirt for the last time at Stade Bauer in December 2004 for a friendly game of the Red Star old boys against the management and staff of Red Star FC 93. |

DRAW EARNED, BUT AT A COST. Red Star return from Normandy with a honorable draw, but with the injury crisis deepening. Midfielder Nicolas Fabiano now waits for the results of tests carried out on his injured leg to ascertain the seriousness of the injury. Nicolas was the victim of an appalling tackle by Bois Guillaumes' Gaël Angoula which left the Red Star man writhing in agony and Angoula red-carded. Striker Khaled Kemas also had to leave the action early with a leg muscle problem, similar to the one that sidelined him earlier this season, except that previously it was his other leg. Renaud Miherre and Reevis N'Simaba also bore the brunt of a very physical game that saw both sides finish with ten men. Red Stars' captain Vincent Fourneuf was also red-carded in the scuffles that followed Fabianos' injury. Elysée MBanza turned out with the reserves yesterday but his game was curtailed as a precaution following a thigh injury. Meanwhile Azzedine Benmesmoudi could be out of plaster within a fortnight, whereas Geoffroy Da Costa is on the slow road back to recovery and Bilal Hammami is resting. Franck Gueï is back in training with Red Stars' reserves.
Coach Bruno Naidon emphasised the need for a strong squad, given that the CFA is a tough competition. He is looking at strengthening the Red Star first team squad.
OTHER CFA GROUP D RESULTS Red Stars' reserves won an exciting game 3-2 against La Colombienne. Red Star went one up early in the game through Ghili, latching on to a Charles through ball. The same scorer doubled the lead just before the break before former Red Star man Ahmed Hamdani pulled on back for the visitors. Deep into injury time Nadjib Aklouche lobbed La Colombiennes' goalkeeper from a good thirty yards out before the former league leaders grabbed a last-second consolation goal. Present at the game was first team coach Bruno Naidon, on hand to congratulate David Giguet. Only blemish on the copy book as Red Star go top of the league was the second yellow and subsequent early bath for Loïc Ghili. COUPE DE FRANCE The draw for the fifth round will be made this evening in Paris.

CUP PROGRESS. Red Star progressed through to the next round of the Coupe de France with a 4-1 win over Villjuif, a result which makes the game appear to have been easier than it actually was. Coach Bruno Naidon took the game seriously, making a few changes but otherwise the line-up was a very strong one. In came goalkeeper Florent Moulin whilst regular incumbent Yoann Djidonou dropped down to the subs bench; also in were Badougon Sambague for Kaba Diomande, Ibou Tounkara for Eugène Kangulungu, Kamel Bengougam for Nicolas Fabiano and Elysée M'Banza for Cédric Rogin who was named as a substitute. The Stade Louis Dolly can be seen from the side of the A6 motorway into Paris; after leaving the autoroute the ground took some finding, made easier by the floodlighting for the night game. No grand entrance, just a small gate by the side of a building. Free to get in, although Villjuif should have charged three euros or so seeing as that quite a decent sized crowd filed in. One little stand which was filled with local supporters, including a large section of vociferous youngsters. The visitors' travelling army, about thirty to forty strong, gathered on the opposite side by the edge of one of the penalty areas. No steps, so viewing at pitch level across a running track in poor lighting made the view difficult. |

LAST GASP DENIAL. Red Star were seconds away from recording their first win in five games when Auxerre grabbed a late equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening. Earlier youngster Christophe Haguy had raced on to a through ball from Cédric Rogin which the visitors' 'keeper let slip through his grasp to give Red Star a dream lead and to break the dry run which extended back to Greg Leforts' strike at Rouen. However, as wass the case at Rouen, Red Star failed to capitalise on three glorious chances in the last ten minutes before allowing Auxerre to equalise. Coach Naidon could claim to have been hard done by as earlier Kemas had a goal denied and in reality Auxerres' goalkeeper Veron really should have walked after handling the ball outside of his penalty area. But the gods were obviously not with Red Star and the Audoniens are still awaiting their third win of the season. Earlier in the evening, Red Stars' president Bruno Davoine and the youth coaches had presented the clubs' youth teams with their playing kit for the new season. This took place in the Bauer stand behind the goals, and the youngsters remained in place for the Auxerre game, giving some atmosphere from two stands rather than just the usual one. A healthy attendance of nearly eight hundred were on hand for the game.
CFA SCORES ROUND-UP. COUPE DE FRANCE. Next Saturday Red Star kick off their Coupe de France campaign with a trip across the city to face Villejuif. The kick off is at 8-30pm CET at the Stade Louis Dolly, avenue des Petites Bruyères in Villejuif. |
