Updated 26th December 2006

CHRISTMAS JOY FOR RED STAR Red Stars' supporters received an early present on Saturday as the team enjoyed its first victory in the championship since the end of August. Two second half goals from a rejuvenated Red Star were enough to bring the four points for a win back from a very cold Brittany. Just after the pause Eugène Kangulungu powered in a fine header then Greg Lefort made the most of a defensive error to seal the victory, watched by twenty-odd hardy supporters whom had made the long trip from the Paris region.

Elsewhere, Pacy-sur-Eure beat Bois-Guillaume 2-0; Pontivy did themselves a favour by beating Rouen 1-0, the goal coming from ex-Red Star man Gaël Le Maux. Leaders Villemomble beat Plabennec 2-0$), and there was a surprise when strugglers Quevilly beat high-flying Auxerre reserves 1-0.
The table now reads :
1. VILLEMOMBLE 48 pts, 2. Rennes 43 pts, 3. Auxerre 43 pts, 4. Bois-Guillaume 41 pts, 5. Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois 40 pts, 6. Pacy-sur-Eure 39 pts, 7. Moissy-Cramayel 38 pts, 8. Vitré 36 pts, 9. RED STAR 36 pts, 10. Dieppe 36 pts, 11. Guingamp 35 pts (1 game in hand), 12. Rouen 35 pts, 13. Plabennec 34 pts, 14. Pontivy 33 pts (1 game in hand), 16. Paris SG 31 pts, 17. Quevilly 30 pts, 18. Concarneau 28 pts.
Bad news for Red Star on the injury front is that midfielder Renaud Miherre was forced to leave the play early due to a leg injury following a rash tackle. His place was taken by Reevis N'Simba. Note also that Gaël Angoula, the Bois-Guillaume player involved in the nasty tacle incident that has left Red Stars' influential Nicolas Fabiano out injured for the rest of the season has seen his ban extended from seven to fifteen games after Red Star appealed at the original decision.
Red Star made the six hundred kilometer trip to Concarneau in a sleeper coach, arriving early Saturday morning in Brittany. There, they had a period of rest at the « Jet’otel », 3, place de la Gare (tel +33 2 98 66 99 99) in Rosporden, ten minutes from Concarneau. The owner is a former athlete and a supporter of Concarneau, but in his youth was a regular at Stade Bauer.

STADE BAUER Yesterday a public meeting was held to debate the future of the area of Saint-Ouen known as the Docks. This area was once a thriving industrial zone but in recent years has fallen into a sorry state. The town council naturally want to redevelop the area, which runs alongside the River Seine. Part of the development cold include sports facilities and the council are thinking of a brand new 20 000 capacity stadium, for which Red Star would be a candidate as resident club. The project would take between ten and fifteen years to come to fruition. The properties are owned by a myriad of owners, including the SNCF. Over 250 people took part in the meeting including Red Stars supporters, vice-president Benoit Delanoé and of course AllezRedStar.com.

KEMAS SAVES RED STAR. Two goals from striker Khaled Kemas saved Red Stars' blushes on Saturday at Bauer against bottom of the table Quevilly. The first half was truly awful, the fans having to wait nearly half an hour before Red Stars' first real attack and shot worthy of the name. In the second half there was a greater sense of urgency in their play, but on a pitch more suitable to the oval ball game the deadlock hardly looked like being broken. Yoann Djidonou was the busier of the two goalkeepers, Red Stars' defence at times creaking somewhat whereas at the opposite end the three pronged strike force of Marquet, Lefort and Kemas failed to make any impression on the scoresheet.
With Red Star having abandoned any resemblance of a midfield - logical really, bearing in mind the state of the playing surface which hardly lent itself to Brazillian football - often Kemas had to track back in search of the ball. The policy of relying upon Vincent Fourneufs' generally accurate long-ball passing was the best hope, and from another Fourneuf direct ball Marquet laid the ball off to Kemas whom cut inside to fire home an unstoppable shot and score Red Stars' first goal since the late penalty at Bauer against Rennes.
With the hardest part having been achieved, ie scoring a goal, Red Star should have gone on to hold onto their advantage and possibly even extend it. One nil would probably have been enough. However Quevilly refused to lie down and proceded to apply the pressure. Two moments of defensive madness in two minutes turned the game completely on its head. Firstly a lame clearance fell to a Quevilly striker who took the golden opportunity to draw the sides level then three ghastly defensive errors resulted in Red Star going behind whereas they really should have been cruising. Luckily Kemas had put on his scoring boots today and another fine solo effort earned the draw for Red Star.
Voices of dissent in the crowd - calls for the head of coach Bruno Naidon when Red Star were trailing and worse still, calls for the return of last seasons' players too. (Soon forgetting the two excellent goals of new-boy Kemas and the goalkeeping contributions of Yoann Djidonou, to name but two of the new boys).

STORMY WEATHER Fridays' storms once again hit Bauer, and some of the roofing material currently being removed from the condemned East stand was blown onto the artificial surface at Joliot-Curie as well as onto the pitch at Bauer. With the game under threat of cancellation, the contractors responsible for the demolition work were called out at 6am Saturday morning to tidy up the mess. Mission accomplished, and the game went ahead as planned.

ANOTHER DRAW ! Red Star are rapidly becoming the draw masters in the CFA group D after yet another goalless draw at Pacy-sur-Eure. In the second period, Red Star, playing with three strikers really ought to have won the game, but some heroics from the local goalkeeper and some stern defending kept Messrs Buval, Kemas and Marquet at bay.
