TWO GAME, TWO WINS Yesterday evening Red Stars' reserves were in championship action at home to Paris Saint-Germains' third XI at Bauer. The game was settled in the very last minute, Loïc Ghili scoring from the penalty spot after Nadjib Aklouche had been upended in the eighteen-yard area. |

CHAMPIONS (1) For once, we start with this news round up not with the first XI (and do they really deserve to open the batting after Saturdays' dismal performance ?) but with Red Stars' reserves, crowned champions of the DHR following their 3-1 win at Ezanville on Sunday afternoon. Red Star got off to a good start, defender Harry Vitalien scoring early in the game. With no further scoring in the first half, Ndjib Aklouche doubled Red Stars' lead after the pause. The goal was vital, as the hosts threw everything at Red Star to get back into the game. Sure enough they were rewarded with a goal for their efforts and piled the pressure on until finally Elysée MBanza settled the issue with Red Stars' third goal. Red Star are now promoted into the DSR, the second division of regional Parisian football and the seventh tier of French Football overall.
CHAMPIONS (2) Ok, not champions of their division - they actually finished second - but Red Stars' under 13s are nevertheless promoted into the DH, which is the top level of Parisian football. In their rearranged game against neighbours Aubervilliers - they actually turned up this time - Red Star fell behind to an early visitors goal. Just before half time Red Star settled their nerves with a goal from a free kick before two goals in the second half settled the issue and propelled Red Star into the higher divsion. DISAPPOINTING END TO SEASON In their opening game of the season at Bauer Red Star were involved in a six-goal encounter - the season fizzled to a close on Saturday at Bauer with another six-goal game, only this time, in contrast to the 5-1 drubbing of Pontivy back in August, Red Star slumped to an awful 4-2 home defeat at the hands of local rivals Poissy. And it could have been worse. With the defence awol on numerous occasions, and just inept on others, this game will be best forgotten and put down to end of season blues with nothing to play for. From being one of the best defences in the league, in the last three games of the season Red Star have shipped eight goals, most of those due to dreadful defending. |

LAST ONE Red Star bring their first CFA season to a close at Bauer tomorrow against Poissy, their opponents on the opening day of the season some ten months ago. On a sunny Saturday evening in the western suburbs, Red Star achieved what would be the first of an amazing seventeen drawn games, the match ending in a 1-1 draw. Red Star and Poissy have met twice already this season, the second game ending in a 1-0 win for Poissy in the Coupe de Paris, the goal coming in the dying seconds of the tie. Incidentally, Poissy have reached the final of that competition and will meet CFA 2 outfit Ivry at Issy on the 7th of June.
AU REVOIR, ALPHONSE Red Stars' assistant coach Alphonse Luraschi bids farewell to the spectators at Bauer tomorrow before rejoining his new club, Choisy-le-Roi (DH).
NOT QUITE YET OVER The championship may draw to a close tomorrow, but Red Star have preparation games coming up against Levallois and Villemomble next week, with an eye on the season 2007-2008. OFFICIALS Monsieur Stéphane Mombert of the Ligue de Lorraine will officiate the game, assisted by Stéphane Rico & Patrick Couret. The fourth oficial will be Albert Gerchoum. Stéphane Mombert was the man in charge five years ago when Red Star played Lens reserves in the CFA on the 9th March 2002. In goal for the visitors that day was ex-Red Star man Charles Itandje. CHAMPIONS ? Red Stars' reserves will be crowned DHR champions should they win at Ezanville on Sunday. Kick off is at 3-30pm at the Stade Municipal Guid, Place du Docteur Pottier in Ezanville (95)

DIMANCHE IN EZANVILLE Red Stars' reserves will be looking for another win in their bid to end the season as DHR group champions when they travel to Ezanville on Sunday (kick off 3-30pm CET), at the Stade Municipal. |

YET ANOTHER DRAW Red Star made it seventeen draws in the league this season with a 2-2 result at already-relegated Dieppe. On a sunny if somewhat breezy afternoon, the hosts used the following wind to their advantage to open up a 2-0 lead moments before the half-time interval, only for Red Stars' Khaled Kemas to give a glimmer of hope in first-half stoppage time with a fine individual goal. The mercurial striker drew the sides level in the 68th minute, and Red Star might have had more, had two goals not been ruled out for offside. The seafront restaurant where Red Star were to partake of a pre-match meal was reached at around three o'clock. Dieppe was quite busy with traffic and holidaymakers, here to enjoy a sunny Saturday by the sea.
After the meal, the players and officials had the chance to stretch their legs, taking the chance to walk along the beach, unfortunately not sandy but a pebble beach reminiscent of Brighton. Still, the sun was out and the sea relatively calm.
Then it was off to the new stadium in Dieppe. Fortunately a local supporter was on hand to direct the coach to the ground, signposts being somewhat absent. The ground is relatively new, and for the moment consists of one fine grandstand, the other three sides being open but with the possibility to construct further stands should the need arise. No running track either, so a fine view of the action. The changing rooms are superb, modern and well-lit. The only blemish on the stand is the ghastly collection of differently-coloured seats; the stand would look much better in the club colours.
DULWICH HAMLET ON TOUR. Present at the game were three supporters of South-London non-league outfit Dulwich Hamlet, at one time probably the top amateur team in the country. However, as is the case with Red Star, Dulwich have had mixed fortunes of late and have some way to go before the glory days return. Dulwich have good links with Red Star since the famous game between the supporters of the two clubs back in 2004. Mishi, Mark and Griff had come to spend the weekend in Dieppe, taking in Saturdays' game before travelling the short distance to Rouen on Sunday. Great to see the lads again, hopefully next season will see a return game between the supporters. Mishi also kept up his record of never having seen Red Star lose - a lucky talisman for the club ! A short interview with our intrepid voyagers can be found here
CFA RESULTS GEORGES HATZ Former Red Star goalkeeper Georges Hatz has passed away at the age of ninety years. M. Hatz signed with Red Star Olympique in 1936 and was Division 2 champion in 1939. Despite being a rival to the legendary Julien Darui, he played all the rounds of the 1942 Coupe de France 1942 in the absence of the injured Darui. However the latter came back from injury to keep Hatz out of the final at Colombes, which Red Star won. The following season he was the regular goalkeeper for the Saint-Ouen club before leaving to play for Lille, where he was a cup winner in 1946 against ... Red Star.

RED STAR MAKE IN TEN By beating bottom club Concarneau Red Star notched up their tenth win of the season as well as doing the double over the Bretons. The first half was a laboured affair as uninspired Concarneau packed the defence to avoid yet another defeat. They hung on until the hour mark when defender Kaba Diomande was left unmarked in the six yard box to fire home his first goal of the season. Eight minutes later it was a personal triumph for Azzedine Benmesmoudi. Last seasons' goal machine has had an horrendous season so far, missing a hugh chunk through injury. Azzedine picked up a ball some twenty five yards out, evaded a couple of tackles before lashing the ball past the visitors' goakeeper from just outside the penalty area. This was effectively the first goal in a year, and Azzedine and the suporters savoured the moment.
VILLEMOMBLE PROMOTED Congratulations to Red Stars' neighbours and long-time championship leaders Villemomble whom sealed promotion to the National with a 1-0 win over Plabennec. The hard work must now begin to prepare the club for the leap into Frances' third level of football. Not only is their Stade Pompidou hopelessly inadequate for this level of football, the cost of the promotion is enormous - players' wages will be significantly higher if the club are to attract players of the National standard to avoid a quick return to the CFA. Also the travelling distances are increased - away trips to Toulon and Nîmes are now on the agenda. Stade Marville, Red Stars' much-despised temporary home is the most likely venue for their home games. |

THIS WEEKEND Red Star play their penultimate home game of the season against already-doomed Concarneau on Saturday (k-o 6pm CET at Bauer). The visitors are already preparing for life in the CFA 2 by blooding youngsters whom could be in the future set-up of the Brittanny club. They are very capable of providing an upset, as they did by beating Rouen a few weeks ago. However on their travels last time out they suffered a 5-1 drubbing at PSG. Sébastien Moreira, assisted by Philippe Collot and Sébastien Joubert will be the match officials tomorrow evening, and the fourth official is Jean-Jacques Labruyère. Earlier this season Red Star recorded their first away win with a 2-0 victory. The first goal that day was scored by defender Eugène Kangulungu.
ALSO THIS WEEKEND The promotion issue may be finally settled if Villemomble beat Plabennec, a team fighting to avoid relegation/ |

LURASCHI TO QUIT RED STAR Red Stars' affable assistant coach Alphonse Luraschi is to leave the club at the end of the current season in order to become General Manager of south-Paris club Choisy-le-Roi. The club are currently lying second in the DH, and are set to take part in the end of season play-offs to determine promotion to the CFA 2.
At yesterday evenings' training session, Mickaël Marquet and Nicolas Fabiano were in light training, as was Christophe Haguy still feelng the effects of a knock picked up in the reserve team game against La Garenne Colombes. Grégory Lefort should be back in full ttraining Friday. Renaud Miherre returned to training yesterday evening.
MIXED SUCCESS IN JUNIORS' TOURNAMENT. Red Stars' under 11s took part in a tournament on Tuesday at the Camp des Loges, the regional finals of the national cup competition. They finished thirteenth out of sixteen teams from all over the Parisian region, a disappointing return. In their pool matches they drew two and lost one, failing to score a single goal in the process. With several key players unavailable, Red Star had to field a somewhat weakened attack, which explains the goal-shyness. Later in the tournament, they did beat Linas-Montlhéry 1-0 in a play-off game. The eventual winners were Paris Saint-Germain who go through to the national finals.

YET ANOTHER DRAW ! Red Star notched up another draw this weekend - their SIXTEENTH of the season out of thirty one games (including the disputed game againt PSG). This time the opponents were Quevilly. Rather oddly the game ended in the same result as the game earlier this season at Bauer, and even stranger is that the score progression was exactly the same in both games. Coach Bruno Naidon was seething with the way his charges failed to dominate and to prove that they are the better side. With no reserve team game this weekend, the Red Star coach had decided to ring the changes, bringing back Mickaël Marquet, Loïc Ghili and Bedi Buval. A slight worry might be the knock picked up by Grégory Lefort, who was replaced by Azzedine Benmesmoudi, finally getting a decent run out, albeit in a substitutes shirt.
News from the sick bay - Nicolas Fabiano and Yannick Berthier are making big steps on the road to recovery, but Geoffroy Da Costa has recently had a set-back after a road traffic accident that left him with knee injuries - a period of rest is now on the agenda. One of the main talking points at the game on Saturday was PSG (yet again). This time the debate was not on the Red Star points deducted affair, but on the "Chantômegate" affair. To refresh the memory, PSG fielded first-teamer Clément Chantôme in their 5-1 demolition job of already relegated Concarneau (whom Red Star play next). However Chantôme was not eligible to play, so normally the visitors should have made an official complaint within forty-eight hours of the game. But - to most peoples' amazement, and to the dismay of the other teams involved in the relegation battle, it appears that no complaint has been lodged, and PSG have got away with it yet again. Four points less for PSG would have dragged them back into the relegation dogfight and into the pack with Dieppe, Plabennec, Quevilly, Pontivy and Vitré. |

BLANK WEEKEND. Red Star once again failed to break down a resolute Pacy-sur-Eure defence at Bauer on Saturday, the game ending goalless. The visitors were reduced to ten on the half hour when Eddie Vidon brought down Moussa Ouattara a foot from the edge of the penalty area - as the last defender Vidon had to walk, and he did. Despite the numerical inferiority, Pacy hung on grimly to their share of the spoils. This draw means that out of thirty games played this season, Red Star have drawn half. One is left to rue what might have been had the Audoniens converted a few of these draws into victories.
OTHER CFA RESULTS RED STAR RESULTS Red Stars' third XI beat Les Indomptables 3-1 and took one more step closer to promotion. |
