DERBY DEFEAT Local rivals Villemomble ran out winners of the first derby game of the season on Saturday at the Stade Pompidou, beating a very poor Red Star by one goal to nil, the goal coming after a defensive mistake on the hour. Red Star failed to procure any real chances in the game and now are truly mid-table material. Promotion seems a long way away, with one quarter of the season already passed.
The statistics go a long way to explain coach Francisco Ciccolinis' teams indifferent form. In eight games so far this season Red Star have found the net six times, and fifty percent of these goals came in the three-one victory over Racing (one of the worst defences in the division). That means six goals in twelve hours of football (excluding injury time) - one goal every two hours ! Take away the Racing game and that makes three goals in seven games, one goal every three and a half hours. Hardly the sort of exciting football that is going to get the fans flocking back to the matches. Something has to be done and quick.... |

NEWS Red Star hope to follow up their 1-0 away win last weekend at Rouen when they travel the short distance across the 9-3 to play Villemomble. Freshly relegated after one season in the National, the club coached by the excellent Alain M'Boma will also be looking to build on their first win of the season, a hard-fought victory at Guingamp reserves. Encounters between the two neighbours have always been close but Red Star have never won at the stade Pompidou. Kick off is at 6pm CET and the game will be officiated by Antonio Mestre assisted by Sylvain Bohrer & Ludovic Leducq. The fourth official is Yveline Lallier.

WEEKEND PREVIEW Red Star travel the relatively short distance to Rouen tomorrow, to face a side which has endured turmoil since the end of last season and has got off to a very indifferent start in the CFA. Firstly the club missed out on promotion to Pacy-sur-Eure, who were initially denied promotion to the National and Rouen were promoted in their place. Then, Rouen were relegated from the CFA to the CFA 2 on financial grounds. Rouen appealed and won only days before the seaon got underway, thus taking their place in the CFA. Over the last ten seasons Rouen have been through similar turmoils to Red Star. The club is relatively big wth a decent fan base. It is also one of the few CFA clubs to employ a crowd segregation policy. |

RED STAR RUN RIOT. After a opening to the season that could at best be described as "average", where they only managed to find the net twice in the first five games, Red Star ran riot on Saturday at Bauer against a Racing side that had thumped Rouen 4-1 the previous week. Amadou Diagouraga got things underway in the sixth minute, rising like a salmon above the Penguins' defence to power home a super header. Red Star then extended their lead on the half hour when an atrocious mistake by the visitors' keeper allowed Maxime Ongmakon to shoot the ball into the empty net. In the second half substitute Bouzid Yosri further extended the home sides' advantage before Racing pulled back a consolation goal in the dying seconds of the encounter. Only last week we compared Red Stars' striking rate with that of England striker Wayne Rooney - over the last seven days both Red Star and the Manchester United frontman have both had the last laugh over AllezRedStar.com ! |

NO SCORE BORE DRAW Red Star returned from Brittany with a share of the spoils in goalless draw at Plabennec. Coach Ciccolinis' men did put the ball into the home net, only for Amadou Diagouragas' strike to be ruled out for an improbable offside. Maxime Ongmakon had a plea for a penalty waved away by the referee, and the game petered out into a lifeless stalemate. Red Star drop a few plces in the league, but with no real front-runner for the moment, only a couple of points separate the top from the bottom, and a couple of good results starting with a win against Racing at Bauer next weekend would propel Red Star towards the right end of the table. On the other hand, Racing annihilated strongly-fancied Rouen 4-1 at home last weekend, so nothing can be taken for granted on Saturday. Kick off is at 6pm CET. |

WEEKEND ROUND-UP On the positive side, it can be said that Red Star kept up their unbeaten home record this season as they were held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Orléans, but then again the reality is that for the second half they were truly awful and had their brilliant goalkeeper Yoann Djidonou to thank for keepng them in the game. In a lacklustre first half Red Star huffed and puffed against the bottom team in the league, and just before the interval centre half Soilyho Mété picked the ball up some twenty five yards out from the Orléans goal before letting fly with a terrific drive that flew past the visitors' keeper and into the roof of the net. |
