SORRY RED STAR SLUMP AGAIN Another dismal performance on Saturday saw Red Stars' poor run in the championship continue with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Quevilly, in Rouen. After only thriteen minutes the hosts were in front and seven minutes later had doubled their advantage. Red Star staged a minor fightback and Maxime Ongmakon gave them some hope when he pulled a goal back for the visitors but in the dying seconds of the game Quevilly scored a third to ensure victory.
Red Star have not won in the championship for over a month, scoring two goals in the last three games. A dreadful return of eight goals in ten games is largely to blame for their indifferent form. Unless ball hits net the Saint-Ouen club could be facing a long Winter of battle against relegation to the CFA 2. Red Stars' next game will be a Coupe de France tie, the draw will be made this evening.
Elsewhere at Red Star the reserves continued their winning run with a 2-0 victory at Dammarie, whilst the under 18s shared the spoils in a goalles draw with Créteil, one of the fancied sides in the division. For the reserves, Fardin (4) and Yessad (73) were the goalscorers.

COMING UP THIS WEEKEND Last Saunday Red Star progressed more or less effortessly through to the next round of the Coupe de France with a 3-1 success at Meudon. They key to beating the smaller clubs in this competition is to score early, then to conslidate the lead. Unlike the previous round where they fell behind to Sèvres, Red Star did exactly as they intended to do, captain Soilyho Mete giving the Saint-Ouen club the lead. Taïmmy Negreche doubled the lead minutes later and when Maxime Ongmakon made in three the game was effectively over. However Red Star took the foot off the gas during the second period llowing their hosts to pull one back, but in fairness never looked to be in any kind of danger of a comeback. The draw for the next round takes place on Monday evening.
This Saturday Red Star are back in Rouen to play Quevilly. In the cup Quevilly progressed with a hard-fought 3-2 win over CFA 2 outfit Dieppe. Hard fought indeed - Quevilly had a man red-carded and both coaches were ordered from the dug-out after an altercation. The man in charge at Quevilly is former Red Star player Régis Brouard, latterly in charge at Nîmes in the National. Note that the kick off is at 5pm CET.
During the week, French sports minster and ex-national Rugby Union coach Bernard Laporte paid a visit to Stade Bauer, where he met the clubs' directors, youth coaches and players. A photographic report is available on the site.

ROUND UP. Red Star were held to a 1-1 on Saturday evening at Bauer in a somewhat tedious match. The visitors took the lead from the penalty spot and Red Star levelled things fifteen minutes later with a scuffed Taïmmy Negreche shot that beat the visitors' goalie. Still, they all count. The biggest crowd of the season so far had to sit through a rather turgid affair, punctuated by some entreprising football by the young visitors XI.
Red Stars' next game is an away trip in the Coupe de France to play MEUDON, who play in the Promotion d'honneur, several divisions below Red Star.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE WEEKEND Red Stars' strikers will be hoping to find the net again in the home game against Le Havre reserves (Bauer, kick off 6pm CET). Last weekend they found the net five times against lowly Sèvres in the cup, but it will be an altogether different task against the divisions' draw specialists. In goal for Red Star will be Xavier Pinoteau, in for Yoann Djidonou away on international duty with Benin. Andy Dahmani, red-carded against Sèvres is automatically suspended, Elysée MBanza will miss the game through injury whilst midfielder Yacine Ayad is doubtful.

CUP PROGRESS, BUT STILL NOT BRILLIANT. Red Star were withing nine minutes of becoming the main talking point of the weekends' Coupe de France activity. Playing lowly Sèvres, some six divisions below them, Red Star were trailing by one goal to nil, a seventh minute free kick. However, to save the faces of the travelling supporters, Amadou Diagouraga was on had to poke the ball into the empty net in the eighty-ninth minute following a horrible defensive error that Sèvres must be kicking themselves for today. Despite this, Red Star still managed to make the job harder for themselves by having Andy-Eddine Dahmani sent off in stoppage time, just before the game headed for extra-time.
On the day, though, the superior physical preparation of Red Star showed through and they ran out 5-1 winners, a scoreline that flatters coach Ciccolinis' men. It has to be said that prior to the equaliser Red Star were simply awful and much work has to be done ahead of Saturdays' important championship tie against Le Havre reserves.
On a positive note, credit were it is due to supersub Gaëtan Bourdon, making his debut with the first XI. He came off the bench to score Red Stars' fourth and fifth goals in a space of two minutes, only five minutes into his first appearance. By then, it could be said Sèvres were dead and buried, having suffered firstly the blow of a Zahiri goal, his first for the club only two minutes into extra time then Taïmmy Negreches' dribble past tired legs and a top-quality finish to make it three one in the first period of extra time. Full marks to hosts Sèvres, a game outfit difficult to manoeuvre on their synthetic surface and best wishes to them for the rest of their season. Out of the cup go Moissy-Cramayel (CFA) beaten at Orly (0-1), Choisy-le-Roi, Levallois, Les Lilas and Drancy (all CFA 2), alll losing out to lower-division opposition. Elsewhere in France, Orléans progressed with a score of 12-0 and Rouen 10-0.

In the championship the under 13s drew 2-2 at Sannois-Saint-Gratien.
