RESERVES SHINE THROUGH GLOOMY WEEKEND "Won one, drew one, lost one, didn't play one"... this was the outcome of the weekend for the "Big Four" Red Star teams.... the "won one" tag belongs to David Giguets' reserves whom won for the second week in a row with a 1-0 victory at Igny. Meanwhile the first XI managed yet another 0-0 draw at home to league leaders Plabennec. In doing so, they made it five goalless draws so far this season, and the tenth game in which they have failed to find the net. Other than the penalty at Guingamp, the last goal scored from open play dates back to the end of November. The draw does not help Red Star in any way, and are still locked in the bottom four of the table. Worse still, they are now three points behind the team just in front of them, Guingamp, and despite having two games in hand, Red Star now must do better than two defeats in these two games if they are to lift themselves up the table. Don't forget that in the CFA a defeat is stil worth one point.

Red Stars' coach François Ciccolini sensationally dropped Benin international goalkeeper Yoann Djidonou for the game, the first time since his arrival at Red Star that Djidonou has been dropped. However Yoann was in action for the reserves on Sunday and was the model professional, giving an excellent performance to help the reserves win.
Disappointment for Red Stars' under 18s however, as their fantastic Coupe Gambardella run came to an end at the hands of Paris FC yesterday. Despite a bright opening Red Star were outperformed in the later stages and exited the competition with a 2-0 defeat.

FANTASTIC RED STAR !. Same headline as last week... this time we're referring to the Under 15s, whom staged a remarkable fightback to come down from two goals in arrears to beat hosts Saint-Ouen l'Aumône 3-2 yesterday. In an engaging encounter, Red Star fell behind to two rather giveaway goals. Fortunately they did the hardest part in scoring more or less straight after the second Saint-Ouen goal so that at half time the game was far from over at 2-1. With the wind in their backs for the second forty minutes it was all Red Star as Jean-Claude Ourés' youngsters took to the field with the words of their coach ringing in their ears. The equaliser was one of those "did it cross the line or didn't it.." goals but in fairness to the home side they did not contest the decision. Red Star continued to press and were rewarded with a third goal from a lobbed shout at the edge of the eighteen yard box. Cue scenes of delight. The home side might have had claims for a foul by the Red Star goalie as he left his area and collided with an attacker but the referee was well-placed and waved away the appeals. The last quarter of an hour saw frenetic activity as both sides tried to score a decisive goal, but at the final whistle the score remained at 3-2 in favour of Red Star.
Congratulations to Jean-Claude Ouré, his players and staff for an enthralling encounter, not forgetting the game contribution of Saint-Ouen. Impeccably disciplined the Red Star boys, respectful and polite and fair-play. Thanks also for the warm reception for your correspondant; don't forget that the last time he went to see the under 15s they lost 3-1 at the same venue.... Match photos : Go !

ELSEWHERE AT RED STAR. The under 18s game was called off, probably to protect the pitch that was later used by the reserves, whom slumped against Torcy 1-0. Both sides were reduced to ten men; Red Stars' Gaëtan Bondon was the one to take the early bath for the home side. The under 13s troubled season continues with a 3-1 home defeat against Le Bourget.

FIRST TEAM WOES CONTINUE In the CFA Red Stars' unwanted dismal record of failing to score in open play now extends to five games. Other than the penalty against Gungamp, the last goal scored was at Bauer at the end of November against Quimper. The record now is thirteen goals in eighteen games, or one thousand six hundred and twenty two minutes - a goal every two hours more or less. Take out the six goals in two games against Racing and Quimper, that makes seven goals in sixteen games, or twenty four hours, or one goal every two hundred and five minutes. Having never scored more than one goal in a game, that makes nine games they have failed to score in. The drop zone looms large...
Meanwhile Red Star take on Les Ulis in a Coupe de Paris game on Wednesday evening, so maybe the chance for a spot of target practice for the strikers...
CFA RESULTS Red Stars' next opponents in the league are Orléans, and they swatted aside the in-form Rouen on their travels. However, with no clear favourite as yet emerging in the division, anything is still possible.
Quimper - Pontivy : 2-0
Racing - Plabennec : postponed
Quevilly - Rennes B : 3-0
La Vitréenne - Guingamp B : 2-2
Rouen - Orléans : 0-2
Villemomble - Paris SG B : postponed
UJA - Viry-Châtillon : 2-0
Le Havre B - Caen B : 0-3

FANTASTIC RED STAR !. Fantastic performance, fantastic team, fantastic coach.... I'm taking about Red Stars' unders 18s, still on the Gambardella Cup trail after a historical 2-0 win over National club Laval. Red Star left it very late, however, both goals coming in stoppage time. Red Stars' youngsters are now one of the top 32 under 18 sides in the country. The draw will be made tomorrow (5th Feb). Congratulations go to coach Sébastian Robert, his players and backroom staff for this wonderful result.
