LATEST NEWS It was a vastly different Red Star that took on FC Issy in the Coupe de Paris yesterday evening, compared to the one that enjoyed a dramatic last-gasp victory over Paris Saint-Germains' reserves on Saturday.
The game played at Bauer against PSG will be remembered for the game that was played behind closed doors and unfortunately for Red Stars' followers they missed out on a finish that will go down in history - three goals in the last five minutes. As the game appeared to be petering out into a 0-0 draw, Big Franck Matingou thought that he had settled affairs with his fourth goal of the season. But before Red Star had the chance to finishe their celebrations defender Luc Ekwalla-Essaka was forced into putting the ball into his own goal to level the scores. But the drama wasn't to end there, as Samuel Ojong won the game for Red Star with virtually the last kick of the game. The four points could prove to be vital to Red Star in their bid to avoid the drop. Next game is a trip tomorrow to Brittanny to play fellow-strugglers Pontivy in a winner-takes-all game.
Congratulations to David Giguet and his team for reaching the semi-finals of the Coupe de Paris following a gutsy performance against a very strong FC Issy side. The game went into extra time after an absorbing 90 minutes, then still goalles to a penalty shoot-out. Martial Onana put his penalty away to send Red Star through, after goalkeeper Mohamed Diakité had given a flawless performance, stopping two of Issy' spot kicks.
