RED STAR FINALLY SCORE ! And more importantly finally win a game. In one of the best performances seen at Bauer in a long while Red Star finally broke their duck this season, in beating high-flying Niort 1-0. The goal came after twenty minutes, when Peguy Ngam fed Miguel da Pina who beat the Niort goalkeeper confidently. Red Stars' striker, whom last season was plyng his trade in the Parisian DH with FC Issy wrote himself into the record books as the first Red Star player to score in the 2009-2010 season. Bravo. Red Star should have put the game beyond the reach of the visitors on the hour mark, but Hamdi Razak saw his spot kick saved by Aubenas in the Niort goal after Ngam had been brought down in the eighteen yard box. FIVE OUT OF FIVE Red Star are just ninety minutes away from eqalling last seasons' run of six league games without scoring a goal folowing their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Balma in the Toulouse suburbs on Saturday. Despite dominating large chunks of the encounter Red Star failed to do the necessary and put the ball into the back of the net. However Balma could, on the rare occasion that they broke out of their half, and leading scorer Antony Aversa did the job he is paid to do just before the hour mark. Another depressing defeat, against a team lacking in ambition whose basic aim is not to lose, whether it be home or away. The future of lower level football indeed looks grim if all teams play not to lose, just imagine the specatacle. One hundred and fifty spectators were present to witness this - a figure hardly likely to increase if dull tactics are all that are on view. |

JUST WHEN WILL WE SCORE ? Red Star made it four out of four at Stade Bauer on Saturday. Yes, four games without scoring a goal... still a couple of games short of the impressive series of last season, but the way things are going that could be under threat. Once again, the visitors highlighted all that is bad about current low-level French football, in coming wit hthe intention NOT to lose. Defending in depth, relying on counter attacks is making this level of the game virtually unwatchable. The dwindling numbers of spectators at Stade Bauer relects this malaise. Red Star huffed, puffed and toiled valiantly against a robust Toulouse Fontaines who never really threatened Red Stars' defence. On the other hand, Red Stars' attackers must really show invenitveness and creativity if they are to break down stubborn defences like this one, and it is more than inevitable that others will come to Bauer with the same game plan.
