NEWS ROUND-UP Since their ignominious Coupe de France exit at the hands of minnows Le Bourget, Red Star have played three games. In the first of these, a championship game at leaders Luçon, they came away empty-handed after a very late goal gave the home side a 3-2 win. Earlier Red Star had come from behind twice to appear to have earned a draw against a side that previously had not conceded a goal at home this season. But deep into injury time Luçon grabbed a winner in a goalmouth scramble. Disappointment for coach Alain Mboma and his players wom had really deserved at least a draw from this encounter. Red Stars' goals were scored by Pegy Ngam and Dimitri Durand.
Last Friday Red Star played a friendly game against DH outfit Le Blanc Mesnil and ran out 3-1 winners; despite going a goal behind Jonathan Ribadeira drew the sides level before Bruce Inkango (60) and Amadou Diagouraga (93) won the game for the visitors. Notable in the line up were the return after long-term injuries of Yoann Delaneuville and Amadou Diagouraga. There are now two Diagouragas playing for Red Star; Amadous' brother Demba has recently arived from Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois.

On Sunday Red Star opened their 2009-2010 Coupe de Paris campaign with a 2-1 win at Sarcelles; both Red Stars' goals were the work of Andrely Makela. Note that Red Star fielded essentially a reserve XI for this tie. The third XI were also in cup action, hammering Cosmos 7-0 including a hat trick for William Trovoada. On the down side, however, Red Stars' under 19s slipped out of the Coupe Gambardella, losing 5-4 on penalties to Issy-les-Moulineaux.
Next weekend Pau are the visitors to Stade Bauer (6pm CET). Last weekend in the Coupe de France Pau had to go to extra time to see off Canéjan, team from a lower division. Final score 2-1. Also in the Coupe de France, Red Stars' conquerors Le Bourget were eliminated in extra time 2-1 by Neuilly-sur-Marne. The previous weekend, Le Bourget, whom had beaten Red Stars' first XI in the cup lost to Clichy-sous-Bois, who had in turn lost in a Coupe de Seine-Saint-Denis tie to Red Stars' third XI. Spot the error.
Cup eliminations also for Entente Sannois-Saint-Gratien (CFA), beaten by CA Paris 4-3 on penalties after drawing 1-1. CA Paris play at the same level as Red Stars' reserves. Racing beat Suresnes 2-1 whilst Villemomble beat Vitry 3-1. Thrashing of the day was handed out by Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Hilaire whom beat St-Cyr 11-1. Red Star played Saint-Pryvé in a pre-season friendly and drew 1-1 against the club coached by former international Reynald Pedros.

NO CUP GLORY THIS YEAR The Coupe de France, upon which Red Star have their name engraved five times, will not see a sixth engraving this season following Red Stars' less-than-glorious cup exit at the hands of Le Bourget, some six divisions below Red Star. To put it into some kind of perspective, this is the equivalent of, say, Grimsby Town being knocked out of the cup by Harworth MW... no disrespect to either club. Red Star were just awful, huffed and puffed against a highly motivated Le Bourget and in the end, it is the club from the Excellence Division that goes into the hat for the next round. An early goal complicated affairs, this after Red Star had stated on their official website that their aim was to go out and cut short any dreams of an upset that the minnows might have. But, the visitors did fight their way back into the game and deservedly drew level through Peguy Ngam. But, just after the pause, when Red Star should have gone for the jugular they were dealt a sucker punch on a counter attack and on fifty minutes Traoré smashed home a beauty to restore Le Bourgets' lead.
Still, no need to panic; forty minutes remaining, easly enough to get back into the game and go on to win it. But as chance after chance went begging the locals started to dream of an upset and their joy on the final whistle told the whole story. Red Star left the arena to Le Bourget to celebrate a famous win.

Red Stars' next task is a tough away trip to leaders Luçon, four wins in four games at home. But Red Star are still more than capable of bouncing back and causing an upset, as they did in beating Niort to end a wretched run of games without scoring a goal.
OTHER RESULTS In the Coupe de Seine-Saint-Denis Red Stars' third XI beat Clichy-sous-Bois, whom play in the same division as Le Bourget, 3-1. In the Coupe Gambardella the Under 19s easily saw off Torcy, winnng 7-1. Also in the Coupe de France, Red Stars' neighbours Aubervlliers saw off the challenge of Yerres in extra time, the winning goal being scored by.... Steve Marlet. If only....

AND FINALLY...Todays' France Football carries some interesting statistics... in the Premier League, Louis Saha scores a goal every 96 minutes; Darren Bent 100 minutes; Didier Drogba 104 minutes; Liverpools' Torres 107 minutes; Jermaine Defoe 120 minutes and Wayne Rooney every 134 minutes. Honorable statistics. And Red Star ? So far this season one goal every 240 minutes....

LATEST NEWS Red Star prepare for Sundays' Coupe de France tie at neighbours Le Bourget, taking this game very seriously despite the several divisions that separate Red Star from their opponents. Red Stars' assistant coach David Giguet said that Red Star will try to take the initiative from the first kick of the game to avoid leaving their opponents with any hope of creating an upset. On the injury front, Red Star go into the game without Ludovic Fardin, Hamdi Razak, Bertrand Abissonono and Bruce Inkango all injured whereas defender Serge Mimpo could be doubtful for the match that kicks off at 3pm CET.
Note also that new signings Fabrice Debray (ex Paris FC) and Demba Diagouraga (ex Sainte-Geneviève) are not yet eligible to play as the necessary paperwork will not have cleared in time. One of the rare successes from last years' dreadful campaign has re-signed with Red Star as an amateur; Soilyho Mete should be cleared to play for Red Star next week.
Red Star go into the game against Le Bourget bouyed by their second league success; last Saturday they overcame a stiff second half fightback from visitors Aurillac to hold on to their 2-1 win, but have goalkeeper Xavier Pinoteau to thank for the victory.
