NEWS ROUND-UP Since their ignominious Coupe de France exit at the hands of minnows Le Bourget, Red Star have played three games. In the first of these, a championship game at leaders Luçon, they came away empty-handed after a very late goal gave the home side a 3-2 win. Earlier Red Star had come from behind twice to appear to have earned a draw against a side that previously had not conceded a goal at home this season. But deep into injury time Luçon grabbed a winner in a goalmouth scramble. Disappointment for coach Alain Mboma and his players wom had really deserved at least a draw from this encounter. Red Stars' goals were scored by Pegy Ngam and Dimitri Durand. On Sunday Red Star opened their 2009-2010 Coupe de Paris campaign with a 2-1 win at Sarcelles; both Red Stars' goals were the work of Andrely Makela. Note that Red Star fielded essentially a reserve XI for this tie. The third XI were also in cup action, hammering Cosmos 7-0 including a hat trick for William Trovoada. On the down side, however, Red Stars' under 19s slipped out of the Coupe Gambardella, losing 5-4 on penalties to Issy-les-Moulineaux. |

NO CUP GLORY THIS YEAR The Coupe de France, upon which Red Star have their name engraved five times, will not see a sixth engraving this season following Red Stars' less-than-glorious cup exit at the hands of Le Bourget, some six divisions below Red Star. To put it into some kind of perspective, this is the equivalent of, say, Grimsby Town being knocked out of the cup by Harworth MW... no disrespect to either club. Red Star were just awful, huffed and puffed against a highly motivated Le Bourget and in the end, it is the club from the Excellence Division that goes into the hat for the next round. An early goal complicated affairs, this after Red Star had stated on their official website that their aim was to go out and cut short any dreams of an upset that the minnows might have. But, the visitors did fight their way back into the game and deservedly drew level through Peguy Ngam. But, just after the pause, when Red Star should have gone for the jugular they were dealt a sucker punch on a counter attack and on fifty minutes Traoré smashed home a beauty to restore Le Bourgets' lead. Red Stars' next task is a tough away trip to leaders Luçon, four wins in four games at home. But Red Star are still more than capable of bouncing back and causing an upset, as they did in beating Niort to end a wretched run of games without scoring a goal. AND FINALLY...Todays' France Football carries some interesting statistics... in the Premier League, Louis Saha scores a goal every 96 minutes; Darren Bent 100 minutes; Didier Drogba 104 minutes; Liverpools' Torres 107 minutes; Jermaine Defoe 120 minutes and Wayne Rooney every 134 minutes. Honorable statistics. And Red Star ? So far this season one goal every 240 minutes....
