Cambai have previously featured in the old third division and were once the French amateur vice-champions, losing out to Gazélec Ajaccio (2-4 aet) in 1964. Cambrai even managed promotion to the second division in the 1970s. In the Coupe de France Cambrai proved to be a real giant-killer, reaching the last sixteen in 1969. Red Star and Cambrai have crossed swords before, but mainly Red Stars' reserves. Other than that, there have been a few cup cofrontations: -1971 : Red Star won over two games (1-1 & 0-0), then on penalites 5-4 -1972 : Red Star won 3-1 -1992 : Red Star win away, 3-0 at the Stade de la Liberté.
