Since local rivals Lucé were relegated into the DH, Football Club Chartres are the top club in the Eure-et-Loir. In the CFA 2 since last season. During the 1970s, predecessors Véloce Sports Chartrain played in D3.
Chartres and coach Emmanuel Hamon aim to build on the foundations laid last season, and continuity is the keyword, strengthened by the arrival of ex-Red Star man Mickaël Serreau and striker Slim Gharbi who scored thirteen goals for his previous club last season.

Mickaël Serreau

Born in nearby Courtalain, on the 4th January 1975, Mickaël Serreau is back in his native land. Mickaël Serreaus' career has led him from Cloyes to Chartres, passing through Douy, then Toulouse in 1992. At 19 years of age he made his debut with the pros. A 4-year contract was signed with TFC, where he went on-loan to Lorient and Martigues before returning to Toulouse. After a spell in Portugal, he signed a one-year deal with National club Red Star (2000-2001), before moving on to Marmande (CFA 2). Despite being approached by several National clubsn he has chosen to stay local, and plumped for Chartres.

THE TOWN

Main town in the Eure-et-Loir, pop. 42 000. Picturesque Gothic cathedral, (1194 - 1260), Museum of Beaux Arts.
Famous sons include Jean Moulin, resistant during the second world war, as well as sporting brothers Escudé, one footballer at Rennes, the other a tennis player.
