Founded on the 25th August 1909 after the merger of three clubs : FC Phönix, FC Triumph and FC Hansa.
The club took its current name on the 23rd April 1919.
In 1957, driven by Sporting Director Jean Gauche, the club turned professional. In 1957-58, Forbach debuted in the Second Division with six straight wins. Promotion to the top flight was missed out by one point.
For nine season US Forbach played in the second division, before relegation to the amateur divisions, when the money ran out.
Marseilles' lowest ever attendance in the second division was for a match in 1965 against Forbach, when only 434 spectators were present !
On the 6th of March 1960 Forbach reached the last sixteen of the Coupe de France, losing out to eventual cup winners AS Monaco, 3-2 after extra time, in Bordeaux.
The previous season, Forbach lost out in the cup to eventual league & cup winners Lille in a game watched by 6 000 spectators. Final score 3-1.
On Sunday the Lorraines will be trying to reach the same stage of the cup, and Red Star stand in their way
The last time we met, it was during the 1987-88 season in the third division. On the 5th of September 1987, Red Star won the game 1-0.
Geographically, Forbach, in Lorraine, is virtually on the frontier with Germany.
