Red Star, as you by now know, are one of France's most-loved clubs and are one of the few that possess an English version Internet site. One thing is definite, they are the only amateur club in France to have an English version. The club is unique in many ways - take the name, for a start. Not only is it definitely "non-French", it is also one of the few in this country that give no clue as to where the club is actually situated. (Unless you know that 93 is the Département of the club). In addition, the stadium is one of the best-loved in France, especially outside of the country, where it still retains its very English appearance and atmosphere, a contrast to the modern soul-less concrete stadia and a throwback to the days when football was played in a "proper" stadium. No running track either, so the players are close the spectators. The second reply we received was from Mark, in York (England).
First Name: Mark
City & Country: York, England (but I am from Hamilton in Scotland).
Approximate age: 31.
Team you support: Hamilton Academical (but I am also the manager of an English amateur side called Bishop Burton United - www.bishopburtonunited.com).
How long have you followed AllezRedStar.com & Red Star ?: 3 years now.
Have you ever seen a Red Star game ?: Unfortunately not, much to my disappointment.
Do you intend to visit Stade Bauer & Red Star ?: Most definitely, I hope to get to my first game before the end of the current season. I also hope that I might be able to arrange a friendly match with my club Bishop Burton United and bring the team over in pre season.
If you have already seen a Red Star game, can you tell us a little more (opponents, year, impressions of your visit): Unfortunately I've only passed the stadium on the train to/from Calais.
How did you discover Red Star & AllezRedStar.com ?: On my first visit to Paris I noticed the Stade Bauer and was intrigued by it (initially the flats behind the goals stood out then the rest opened it up and it became apparent to me that this was a really interesting football ground. When I got home I quickly Googled to find out who's ground it was I had passed and my interest in the club and their activities grew from there. I had only been aware of the club in a fleeting sense before then as I remember hearing that Tony Cascarino had turned out for the club after leaving AS Nancy and before retiring.
Any other comments, opinions etc: Really like the website and I'm truly fascinated by this wonderful club. Hope we can arrange a friendly match in the summer and before then I look forward to making my first visit.
Our thanks to Mark for his contribution. If you would like to have your say on Red Star, Stade Bauer, whatever, Previous Contributions : Brian, Northern Ireland
