Red Star, as you by now know, are one of France's most-loved clubs and are one of the few that possess an English version Internet site. One thing is definite, they are the only amateur club in France to have an English version. The club is unique in many ways - take the name, for a start. Not only is it definitely "non-French", it is also one of the few in this country that give no clue as to where the club is actually situated. (Unless you know that 93 is the Département of the club). In addition, the stadium is one of the best-loved in France, especially outside of the country, where it still retains its very English appearance and atmosphere, a contrast to the modern soul-less concrete stadia and a throwback to the days when football was played in a "proper" stadium. No running track either, so the players are close the spectators. The third reply we received was from Pete in the Wirral (England).
First Name: Pete
City & Country: Wirral, Merseyside, UK.
Approximate age: 44.
Team you support: Tranmere Rovers
How long have you followed AllezRedStar.com & Red Star ?: About 6 years.
Have you ever seen a Red Star game ?: Unfortunately not, much to my disappointment.I have been to Stade Bauer on 2 occasions. The first time all games were called off in the Paris region because of bad weather. However I was lucky enough to be given a guided tour of the stadium & met the club directors, staff who were absolutely superb. Their hospitality & genuine friendliness was very touching & I was presented with several gifts. I also had a few beers with Gerard from allezredstar.com - a fantastic character. The 1st team squad were training that evening & I had the pleasure of joining them on the pitch. I also had a chat with Philipe Cuervo who had previously played in The English Premiership with Swindon & was winding down his career with Red Star. Very funny man with a good sense of humour. The 2nd time I visited Paris Red Star were playing an away game. I still managed to get to Stade Bauer to purchase a replica shirt (I now have 2). I also had the opportunity take some photo's on the pitch. Once again everyone was very friendly.
Do you intend to visit Stade Bauer & Red Star ?: 3rd time lucky I'm hoping :-)
How did you discover Red Star & AllezRedStar.com ?: Long story, but to cut it short I was reading a book about World Football. I just happened to flick onto the page about Paris & began reading about Red Star. The history of the club fascinated me & when I Googled for more info was delighted to find such a comprehensive website which made me even more intrigued. I also loved the backdrop of the appartments behind the stadium & decided I had to pay a visit.
Any other comments, opinions etc: Through following Red Star I decided to enroll on a French Language course at night school. My vocabulary has now increased from 2 words to 10 words :-) Seriously though I try to read the French version of the website & then switch to the English version to see how much I've understood.
Our thanks to Pete for his contribution. If you would like to have your say on Red Star, Stade Bauer, whatever, Previous Contributions : Brian, Northern Ireland
