Updated 28th January TRAINING. Our correspondant was present at La Courneuve yesterday morning and watched the training sessions with the players. On a cold but sunny morning, notable absentees were Saci, out with back trouble, Durand and Ludo Mary. Hard man Fabien Valéri trained in shorts, the only one, whilst he and Karim Fellahi professed to be up for the match on Saturday at Saint-Etienne. Both played in an away match on the 30th April 1997 at Geoffroy Guichard, where trailing 3-0 with half an hour to go, goals from Mauricio, Le Saux and Fellahi brought the score to 3-3. (JWH was the only Red Star supporter at the match !).
In an exclusive interview with this site, Karim told us: "If the team all pulls together, we can win the match, they're only players just like us, and over one match anything is possible. But we have to concentrate on the championship, pity that we failed at Angers, then missed out in the first half against Besançon. Now we'll have to put a run together and we still have a chance for promotion."
SAINT-ETIENNE. For the opponents Saturday, other than those on international duty, Wallemme and Hernandez are both injured, there could be returns for Nestor Subiat and ex-Red Star player Patrick Guillou.

SENAYA TO THE FORE. In the African Nations Cup, Red Star defender Yao Senaya starred in a 1-1 draw between his country, Togo and the Ivory Coast, featuring Red Star old boy Cyril Domoraud. The Elephants opened the scoring through a T. Guel (Saint-Etienne) penalty after half an hour, then in the second half Yao Senaya fired over a cross to the feet of Lantame Ouadja, who scored the equalizer. Today Congo with Akiana and Oponga play Morocco, coached by Henri Michel

Updated 24th January DRAW. The draw for the next round takes place at TF1 on Thursday at 12-30 CET.
STORMS (Continued). The roof of the stand opposite the main stand had been blown off in the December storms. Luckily the rain hemd off until the very last minute of the game - a good job, because the hapless souls contained within it had forked out five quid for the priviledge !
THIAM. Brahim Thiam, goalscorer played at the Stadium with Saint-leu before embarking on an adventure with Malaga in Spain. AT that time, the club from the Val d'Oise were a National club.

TRINITA. Jean-Marc Trinita, former Red Star player now with Besançon missed the match on Saturday through a slight injury.
SACI. Just before the match, Akim Saci told us exclusively that he was still experiencing back trouble, which could explain his exit from the proceedings at half time.
STEVE MARLET scored from a superb free kick on Saturday, also the thousandth goal of Auxerre in D1. A spectator at the match was national boss Roger Lemerre.

Updated 14th JanuaryALSO TAKING PLACE THIS WEEKEND: Under 17's versus Laval, Ile des Vannes, Saint-Ouen Sunday, 3pm CET. Under 15's are at Troyes, whilst the reserves are away again Guesnain.

ANGERS AMBITIOUS. Angers, following their crushing victory over Red Star should now be looking for a promotion spot.
CHANGING FACE OF RED STAR. Oponga, Pizzo, Durand, Doukantie, Milton and Fellahi are the only Red Star players to have played in both encounters.
ABDA. Difficult début for Djebran Abda, but really he was the only red shirt to have really tried to make the difference last night.
IN THE STANDS. Two ex-Red Star players present last night to watch their old club suffer - Stéphane Crucet and Guilhermo Mauricio, chatting to Repellini and Girard as well as former team mates, and Alain Gunia....

Thire places will be filled by Mickaël Pizzo and Djebrane Abda, the latter goalscorer in the reserves 3-2 win at Maubeuge this weekend. Red Star will carry the sponsors' name "Speedy" on their shirts tonight. Yesterday, Beauvais went top after beating Paris FC 2-0.

Updated 11th JanuaryCOUPE DE LA LIGUE. Red Stars' next opponents will be posted onto the site as soon as the draw is known, at lunchtime today. The only site that can be arsed....
AT LEAST... Despite the decapitation of the popular stand, at least the Red Star supporters had the chance on Saturday to plant their arses in the stand normally reserved for the "sponsors", ie the "posh stand". Much to popular approval - the view is better, the seats more confortable and there was even singing for heavens' sakes !
GERALD MILTON. Gérald Milton, more than not seen at Bauer showed off his talents to a wider audience on Saturday, scoring two fine goals as well. Formerly a vital cog in the reserve team, Milton will no doubt be further solicited for first team duties. In the CFA 2, the reserves still have a depth of talent, note the excellent win at Maubeuge with strikes from Abda, Belissaoui and Aïchour. Together with the third team in winning ways and the 13-1 win for the kids in the Gambardella, a bright start to a new millenium !

Updated 10th JanuaryTHIRTY SIX YEARS ON. for this first time since 1964, Red Star have beaten a team from a higher division, without having to go to penalties. In 1964, Rennes, then a club of division one lost 4-2 to Red Star, themselves in D2. Red Star went on to the quarter finals of the cup.
AFRICAN NATIONS CUP. Richard Akiana and Camille Oponga took part in preparations for the Cup, representing the Congo national team. The two should play for Red Star on Wednesday and Saturday (Angers/Besançon) before flying out to join the rest of their national team. Red STars' third international, Senaya is currently with Togo, who recently received a 7-0 hammering from Tunisia, one of the tournament favourites.
SACI. Suffereing from back problems since December, Hakim Saci showed glipmses of form to come when he often tore apart the Nîmes defence on Saturday.
BORELLI / RENAUT / GAYSSOT. Present for Saturdays' match were ex-PSG president Francis Borelli, former Red Star man Eric Renaut and transport minister Jean-Claude Gayssot, a loyal Red Star supporter.
DRAW. The draw for the next round of the league cup will take place tomorrow at lunch time. As usual the draw will appear on this site, "as it happens".
REPELLINI WON'T STAND STILL. Pierre Repellini, banned from the touchline (still) had difficulty in respecting his ban - he watched the match from up in the the stands, then from behing the fences, then in the players' tunnel, a little incursion on the athletics track from where he was shooed by the fourth official, before finally settling on pacing up and down agitatedly behind the fence.
SEEN IN THE PRESS. Le Parisien, (Pierre Marcus) : "Red Star head hunters. After Lille, the Nîmes crocodile fell before Red Star, fairly and squarely." Yellow card to the top Parisian paper - no photo, and even the match Evry -Racing got more space !
Le Journal du Dimanche : "A well deserved victory." L'Equipe : "Red Star shine again. Following Lille, Nîmes are the second to fall to the enthusiastic Francilians". France 3 TV showed the goals at 8pm before thier match Bastia-Marseille. Red Card to TF1's TELEFOOT, who mentioned that Red Star had qualified without even giving the score. No mention of the National results either - not so much a football show, more like a pile of shite. Even The Independent gave more details of the match !
MICKAEL PIZZO. Mickaël Pizzo, out through suspension, was sat just in front of us in the stand. He should be back for the Angers match, and promised to return our little questionnaire. Speaking of which, next up comes Cedric Lestic.
DAMAGES. The newx stand is in a sorry state, with half the front section of the roof ripped away. As a result of the work which could drag on for several weeks, Red Stars' boutique is shut, but stuff can still be bought from a stand by the foot stall.
A TYPICAL WEEK. With Red Star enjoying relative success, the training patterns have been considerably modified. A week for the players could look like this ....

MODIFIED FIXTURE LIST.

Updated 7th JanuaryDESOLATION AT BAUER. The stands at the Stade Municipal de Saint-Ouen (Stade Bauer) haven't stood up to the recent storms. A picture of destruction, in particular the "new" stand, which dates from 1976, where a large section of the roof is damaged. As for the other two older stands, these too have some damage, in particular a section of the roof at the "flats" end of the stadium. It will necessitate a great deal of work in the coming days and weeks to get the ground fit for CFA2 matches. Perhaps the storm could well be the catalyst to spark off the rebuilding of a true football ground at Saint-Ouen. For the moment, the CFA 2 side coached by Patrice Lecornu will have to play games at Marville, itself still recovering from the storms, whilst the third team, coached by Christophe Fiatte is currently looking for a temporary home.
No problems this weekend, as the reserves are at Maubeuge and the thirds at Noisy-le-Sec, Stade Allende, Sunday 3pm CET.
COUPE DE LA LIGUE. For this round, eleven players plus five substitutes can be selected. Several recent absentees should be recalled for the first match of the new millenium. Mickaël Pizzo is suspended, Blaise Mamoun still on the injury list and Akim Saci sidelined with back problems. Nîmes have no problems, and should line up with former Red Star captain Régis Brouard and D2 top scorer Mickaël Pagis. If Red Star win, qualification will earn 2.2 million francs, a loss will still earn 1.3 million. The next round will take place 29/30 January.

NEWS FLASHThe French FA has decided that the ground at Levallois is unsuitable for the cup match Levallois-Red Star 93. Therefore the match will take place at Saint-Leu, on Saturday 22nd January, 6pm CET. Stade Municipal de Saint-Leu - Boulevard Brémont 95320 Saint-Leu (cap 2 800).
This stadium was home to Saint-Denis-Saint-Leu, one time candidate to play at the Stade de France. One player who should feel at home is Brahim Thiam, formely with Saint-Leu.

Updated 6th January COUPE DE FRANCE, RED STAR VERSUS LEVALLOIS. Eighty years on, and Red Star finally get to play Levallois. In 1920, also at the same stage of the competition, Red Star Club annihilated Jeanne d'Arc. de Levallois 8-0. The bets performance from a Levallois club dates back to 1923, when the Football Etoile Club de Levallois played l'Olympique de Paris in a cup tie. The later went on to lose out to Red Star in the semi final that year.
Before the draw was made, most Levallois players had wanted a big fish from the D1, preferably avoiding Créteil or Red Star ! Unfortunately the hands of Jeannie Longo and Jean Djorkaeff deemed otherwise.
This should be a real derby match, just over one mile separate Levallois and Saint-Ouen in the inner suburbs. Levallois play at the Stade Louison Bobet at Levallois. The club is currently 5th in the CFA 2, with the match against Red Star Reserves to play. At least Paris will be guaranteed one club through to the next round.

Updated 5th January COUPE DE FRANCE. Youri Djorkaeff and the ex cycling world champion Jeannie Longo will draw the names out of the hat for the next round of the cup, today at 12-30 CET in the town of Villeurbanne, near Lyon. For the first time, the draw will be made outside of Paris. The site will exclusively have details of Red Star as soon as the draw is known.
HALF A STADIUM. Following Decembers' hurricane, Stade Marville will have a new-look for the match against Nîmes. Only half of the ground will be open, as the popular stand and the stand behing the scoreboard end have been closed. Thus, only the other goal stand plus the main stand will be open. Crap views for the paying public, then. Price for the match forty francs. On the 15th of January Red Star are at home to Besançon, and the ground looks like it will have the same configuration for that match too.

Updated 4th January NO CHANGES. There will be no new signings for Red Star, the transfer deadline having passed on the 31st December at midnight. Coaches Girard and Repellini will be without the services of Akiana, Oponga and Senaya during the African Nations' Cup from mid-January. Akim Saci will not after all take part in this competition, due to an ongoing back injury.
CRETEIL - RED STAR 93 : 1-1. Last Thursday at Clairefontaine, eighteen players of RedStar participated in a friendly against Créteil, including Bellissaoui, his first outing in over six months, Obina and Lestic. Final score 1-1, Milton scoring for Red Star.
COUPE DE FRANCE. Thursday 5th January at 12-30 CET the draw will take place at Villeurbanne for the next round of the French Cup, with the entry of the First Division clubs. Also included will be another Parisian club in the National, Evry, who obtained their qualification on Sunday.
