TONY CASCARINO

Just at the moment when Red Star are looking for a goalscorer to put away all those chances we have been creating, a big thank you goes out to those µ%§!§§ responsible for the arrival and departure of the great Tony Cascarino. Okay, so he may not have been totally "Irish", but what the hell, he will always be a great GOALSCORER. Exactly what Red Star are missing at the moment. No further comment required.

TONY (cont.). Tony has revealed, in a soon-to-be-released book that Tony Cascarino he doesn't quite meet all the necessary criteria to represent the Republic of Ireland at football.
Born in sunny Kent, apparently his mother told him in 1996 that he is an adopted child, that his grandfather wasn't his real grandfather and that no Irish blood ran in his veins. Big Tony kept the secret up until the end of his career. The man with 88 caps now risks to lose recognition of his selections for his "adopted country". The president of the Irish Football Federation is said to be shocked by the revelations, but the period under scrutiny should really be the period 1996-1999, because before these dates Tony was unaware of the doubtfulness of his qualification. Whatever his nationality Tony was a great goalscorer, nothing will change that fact.
Perhaps the powers-that-be should concentrate on more serious issues such as doping in football and the trafficking of young players.

DESPERATLEY SEEKING GOALSCORER. Rumours abound that Red Star are on the verge of signing a defender and a striker.
COUPE DE LA LIGUE. For the Coupe de la Ligue, the coaches have the right to name a squad of sixteen. Castro, Traoré and Tacalfred should be back after serving suspension, while the performance of Arthur Gomis in the reserves on Sunday could propel him to a first teal recall.
LORIENT. Lorient coach Christian Gourcuff could line up the same team that beat Nancy 2-1: Le Garrec (1), Druon (2), Gauvin (4) (cap.), Ripoll (6), Le Lan (3), Cloarec (7), Dudoit (18), Keita (8), Le Pen (11), Darcheville (9), Kroupi (22), Petereyns (16) (reserve goalie), Ferron (5), Bouard (21), Bourmaud (12), Pallier (20). Players will wear a squad nulber for the League Cup this year.

CFA 2. A decision will be taken later today as to whether or no t the reserve team game versus Auxerre can go ahead at the Stade Neruda on Sunday. The pitch is a bit of a quagmire and as there will be two games played at Marville next week, the match may have to be played elsewhere or even postponed.
Stade Bauer BAUER . The 2008 Olympics will be held in either Paris or Peking, decision in June 2001. The Stade de France, Stade Charléty and Créteil have been moted as possible venues for the football competition, but why not renovate the Stade Bauer at Saint-Ouen for the occasion ?

BONJOUR NOISY. Olympic Judo champion Séverine Vandenhende did Noisy-le-Sec Red Star no favours whatsoever when she drew out the name of Noisy-le-Sec as the next opponents on the road to the Stade de France. The sixth round of the Coupe de France will therefore be a Seine-Saint-Denis derby, on Saturday November 4th.
THEN THERE WERE FOUR. Thanks go to Laurent for mentioning to us that Istres, as yet unbeaten in the league also made an early cup exit at the hands of Gap, 2-1.
NERUDA FINALE. Red Star 93 v Auxerre, Sunday at 3pm CET could be the last reserve team game at Stade Pablo Neruda, Saint-Ouen. Christophe Fiattes' men should normally play out the reamaining games of the season at Stade Marville.

COUPE DE FRANCE

This evening Red Star will know the name of their next opponents in the French Cup. The next round will take place on the weekend of the 4th/5th of November. Tonights' draw will be made by Séverine Vandenhende, who won a gold in the judo competition at the Sydeney Olympics, in the under 63kg category. Other than Créteil (D2) and Paris SG (D1) who will make their entries later in the competition, twenty two Paris clubs go into the hat for the sixth round draw.

SACI NATURALISED. Hakim Saci now has a French passport, which will allow Red Star 93 to recruit oustde of the European Community.
COUPE DE FRANCE. Here are the twenty two Paris clubs still left in the Cup (other than Créteil and PSG). Hauts-de-Seine (5) : Racing CP (National), Levallois (CFA), Arménienne (DH), Colombienne (DH), ACBB (Excellence). Seine-Saint-Denis (5) : Noisy-le-Sec (National), Red Star 93 (National), Aubervilliers (CFA 2), Saint-Denis (DH), Villemomble (DH). Yvelines (5) : Versailles (DH), Mantois (DH), Porcheville (DHR), Trappes (PH), Epône (Excellence). Essonne (3) : Evry (CFA 2), Sainte-Geneviève (DSR), Fleury-Mérogis (PH). Paris (2) : Paris FC (CFA), PTT Paris (PH). Val-de-Marne (1) : UJA Alfortville (DSR). Val-d'Oise (1) : Entente Sannois - Saint-Gratien (CFA 2). Seine-et-Marne (0).
Athletic Bilbao COUPE DE FRANCE (continued). As well as Dijon and Alès who fell at the first hurdle, another National club made an early exit from the cup. Bayonne, home club of loyal Red Star supporter Jacky thumped Pau 5-2. The Bayonnais, coached by Christian Sarramagna avenged the recent 2-0 defeat of Red Star 93 at Pau. However, Jacky was at Bilbao on Sunday, and saw Athletic, no longer coached by Luis Fernandez lose 3-0 at home to Las Palmas.
UNDER 15S. Despite beingheld to a 2-2 home draw by Avion, Red Stars' youngsters nevertheless have the pleasure of going top of their championship. Lens, one point behind do have a game in hand.

JOB DONE

OK, so it wasn't done in style, but at least Red Star got past the Poisst obstacle. In the cup, only qualification is important. It wasn't easy (see the match report), just ask Alès or Dijon, two clubs in a better position in the National than us and eliminated at this stage of the cup already this year. A stepping stone for next Saturdays' tough fixture at Valence ?

ECHOS

SERREAU BACK WITH A BANG. Discarded by Jacky Lemée, Mickaël Serreau came on as a substitue for Laurent Castro on the hour and proved his former coach wrong by turning on a stunning display, effectively making the difference between qualification and elimination. As well as causing havoc in a tiring Poissy defence, he supplied teh cross from which Yoann Rangdet scored the second goal.
Gérald Milton GERALD MILTON LIKES CUPS. Last year in the League Cup, Gérald (pictured) helped Red Star on their run with two extra-time goals against Nîmes ans a goal at Saint-Etienne. At Poissy, he came on with six minutes remaining and scored with his first touch of the ball.
FAIR PLAY. International Fair-Play day, so all the players wore an armband to remind them of the fact.
WHICH.... unfortunately went unnoticed for Hakim Saci - just as he did against Noisy earlier in the season, Akim decided to have a pop at an opponent at the end of the game. All very unsavoury, unprofessional and unneccessary.
LESS THAN SELBY TOWN. Not even 300 turned out for the tie, less than Selby got for a FA Vase match. Twenty years before and two thousand turned out for a match between the two clubs. Thank you, also Canal + for putting Toulouse v Paris SG on the telly at the same time. By the way - if the Stade Legrange was ever a second division ground, then it comes as an enormous surprise. Nothing behind the goals, the stand opposite being a covered terrace of about four steps high, and the main stand (cap. 386 - it said so) was a tiny effort which straddled the half-way line. On either side of it were two "temporary" uncovered stands, holding four hundred each. Better than Pacy, but would struggle to get a Conference grading. Decent price - only 40 francs to get in, one price for everywhere.
Alain Polaniok POLANIOK . Alain Polaniok, currently coach at Mantes, watched the game from the stand. Former Red Star player commented "The players (of Red Star) haven't got the mentality".
ENFORCED REST. the Under 17's had a rest weekend, due to the pitch at Pablo Neruda being unplayable for their game against Mulhouse.

NO JOKING

Tomorrow afternoon, at Poissy, Red Star are back in cup action. The Coupe de France is the cornerstone upon which the Red Star legend is based - five previous cup wins. Last seasons' cup run lingers on in the memory, the win over Le Havre and the undeserved, last-gasp defeat against Olympique Lyonnais with Anderson, Vairelles etc. In order to get that far, Red Star had to battle hard against sides from lower leagues; remember Villepinte, the debut, and the gaping, wide-open goal with five minutes to go and the score at 1-1 and the poor Villepinte striker who missed the ball completely. So, caution is the byword on Saturday, Poissy play in the CFA 2 - just ask Christophe Fiatte what he thinks about the standards of the play and the players of Eric Dewilder.

TURNING POINT ?

The championship lets the Coupe de France take center stage this weekend, as Red Star travel to Poissy in the western Paris suburbs. Next week an awkward trip to Valence, but for now a tough battle in store.
Jean-Luc Girard watched the reserve team game against Poissy at Neruda, just days before the departure of Jacky Lemée. Hs should have noted that the team from the Yvelines are quite a handful, with the defence particularly effective. Without bad luck and some sloppy finishing, Poissy should have been three or four up by half-time. In the cup, the side which scores first will always have a strong advantage. Up to Red Star to do as they did against Montreuil and to bury the game straight from the kick-off.

RESULT. You can have the score and a bried report of the game - write to : redstar189@aol.com

BRAHIM THIAM SUSPENDED. The booking inflicted on Brahim Thiam at Dijon means that he will miss the match, as will Saragaglia. Poissy likewise will be without the suspended Dave Meunier and striker Raddas. Girard could use the game to give outings to Serreau and/or Tacalfred.

STADE DE POISSY. In case you want to make the trip, the address of the Stade de Poissy is: 8, rue du Stade, Poissy. Referee is Didier Goulard, kick off 6pm CET.

UNDER 15S : RED STAR 93 – AVION, Saturday 21st October 4pm CET, Ile des Vannes
UNDER 17S : RED STAR 93 – MULHOUSE, Sunday 22nd October, 3pm CET at Pablo Neruda

THE TRUTH SOMETIMES HURTS

Yesterday in the Seine Saint-Denis edition of Le PARISIEN, Bruno Mallet and Stéphane Corby summarized the start of the season for the two clubs in the region, Noisy-le-Sec and Red Star 93. Here is a brief translation of the article.

Red Star Inconsistent
"Red Star have never been as far from the Stade de France. Last-but-one in the championship which appears to have got underway without them, the Audoniens have in five months become the laughing-stock of the National. Recruitment wasted, the merry-go-round of coaches and a sequence of defeats means that the League Cup semi-finalists of last season have missed the bus this term. Fellahi, Doukantie and Akiana, the three stars of last year have all flown the nest, but have not been replaced despite a budget much inflated compard to this time last year (30 MF). Whilst some talk of the Paris FC syndrome, others, such as President Bras, remain calm and unmoved. It is an enormous waste which looms over the horizon in 2001. The eviction of coach Lemée, himself sucessor to Repellini days before the kick-off of the new season, as well as the late signings of Castro (Créteil), Saxemard (Racing), Ferhaoui (Saint-Etienne) and Traoré haven't yet reaped the desired effect. Players with self-doubt, lacking in confidence and Red Star are in trouble. Jean-Luc Girard calls for the medicine bag, but will he find a cure ? Not so sure. Amiens, currently lying in a third place synonymous with promotion have a sixteen point advantage over Red Star. A straw to clutch at."

27 MAY 1978 AT POISSY, THE LAST RED STAR V POISSY

Just over twenty two years ago, ont the 27th May 1978, sixteenth placed Poissy, third from bottom and already condemned to relegation welcomed third placed Red Star, out of the running for promotion following a defeat against Paris FC, but also condemned, the club in liquidation. Red Star FC was playing it's last match in D2, before being reborn under a new prsident, Jean-Claude Bras, as AS Red Star in the Division d'Honneur.
Georges Eo Thirteen hundred spectators gathered for the last rites of the dying club. Die to the injuries of Eo, Madronnet, Amorfini, Colney and Izquierdo, coach Roger Lemerre was struggling to put a side out for the match. TODAYS' QUESTION

Romain from Montreuil asks us the following question.

"What happens if Red Star 93 are relegated to the CFA and the reserve team wins the CFA 2 ?"

Firstly, despite lying in 19th place, we don't see the first team getting relegated. Whatever, this case would be a first for French football. In any way, Red Star 93 would only have one team, in the CFA. It is up to the players to avoid this catastrophie.

DIVISION SUPERIEURE REGIONALE
Red Stars' third team are starting to get to grips with the higher level of football. Followig defeats at Bobigny and Levallois, then a hnoirable draw with the PSG, on Sunday the first victory of the season was achieved, a thumping 4-0 win over Sarcelles. The team are now in ninth place and are due to play eight-placed Gonesse next.
Standings : 1st CA Paris 13 pts, 2nd Levallois (b) 13 pts … 9th Red Star 8 pts. Top Scorer for Red Star is Malfleury (3).

TOP MAN

Christophe Fiatte
Christophe FIATTE
With Red Star since 1988.
Fact :When contacted by telephone Saturday evening after the match at Chaumont, before giving the score from his match, Christophes' first words were "How have the first team gone on ?" Top Man, Red Star need more like him.

A HAPPY BAND

Six wins out of seven, one draw, what more can one ask from the reserves ? For his first season in charge at this level, Christophe Fiatte for the moment is making an impression on the ranks of coaches. Don't forget that last season, his first ever as a coach, he took the third team from the DHR to the DSR. At Chaumont, the young striker Jolibois carried out his job perfectly, stepping up into the boots of Gérald Milton, absent on first team duty. Jolibois scored twice, the third goal comin from a Serreau penalty.

IN A WORD..
"TREASON"

The word is the word of Jean-Luc Girard at half time on Saturday evening. Event though the reds had procured two good chances in the fourteenth and thiry-first minutes, Brest could have just as easily have been four up by the break instead of two. However, Castros' goal on the hour and the introduction of the youngsters Natchimie, Randget and Milton gave fresh impetus to Red Star, enabling them to dig out an improbable 2-2 draw, unlikely given how they performed for two thirds of the encounter.

ECHOS FROM THE MATCH RED STAR 93 – BREST

Pissed off, by half time, the home supporters were once again fed a diet of appalling rubbish by their "heros". No-one could really see how Red Star were going to get anything out of this one. A lack of combativity, and a disgraceful abuse of the shirt were the terms most often used by the suffering faithful.

Girard must have given a real bollocking during the half-time. On their return from the dressing rooms, many bowed their heads in shame. It took a good quarter of an hour for then to lift themselves a little. Just a the moment coach Girard wanted to take off Castro, the latter scored from a superb free kick to give a glimmer of hope.

The Bretons have given up travelling to away games, it seems, as only a dozen had bothered, but nonetheless they still managed to make more noise than the home side.

Anxious moment, in the 65th minute as Brest defender Serge Le Guen went down injured just by the touchline. Rushing on with the stretcher was our man Valck, stretcher-bearer for the day.

Ben Mabrouck, took his place as assistant boss for the first time alongside coach Girard.

Scorers, first of the season for Castro, second for Saci. The list is as follows : Van Kets (4), Saci (2), Abda, Castro, Faye, Ouejdide, Randget and Thiam (1)

CHAUMONT – REDSTAR 93 1-3. Fiattes' boys have done it again, despite the absences on first team duty of Natchimie, Rangdet and Milton. Red Star continue to dominate group B of the CFA 2. On Saturday evening, Chaumont went down at home 3-1 to our reserves. More on this tomorrow, but we can tell you that Red Star 93 have 26 points and are five points ahead of second placed Poissy, winners over Senlis 2-1. Poissy are of course next weeks' cup opponents. Other results : Toul – Créteil 1-0, Chantilly – Evry 3-3, Moissy-Cramayel – Tinqueux 1-1, Ivry – Saint-Dizier 3-0.

Updated 13th October EDITORIAL In Spring this year, Red Star supporters were proud to support a team that although heisitant in the championship were cup heros, giant-killing clubs from D1 in both competitions. The whole nation were aware, thanks to extensive television coverage, that the club from Seine-Saint-Denis had talented players, unknown until then. The hope was to build upon this euphoria and to see Red Star dominate the National championship 2000-2001 with the prize of a place back in D2 come May.
This time, no question of a lack of funds - the cup runs had seen to it that the bank balance was healthy. And kaboom ! The whole thing goes pear-shaped and some. Ten weeks after the start of the season, the club is in a disatrous position, a real catastrophy. The inevitable departures of some of the players has not been recompnsed by quality recruitment. The whole thing precipitated by the ill-conceived change of coach only fourteen days before the start of the season. Players arrive, others leave, no less than twenty nine players used in ten games. No sooner as the new coach take the reins, he succeeds in getting on peoples' backs, creating a bad atmosphere, and worse of all dismissing players who had only arrived at the club a month before. An event never before seen at this level of football. On a personal note, your webmaster sends a huge apology on behalf of all Red Star supporters to Tony Cascarino, for the way he was treated by the club we support - not by the supporters - although it should be the club itself doing the apologising. Jean-Luc Girard has inherited an army in full disarray, and it won't be easy for this loyal servant to turn things around. For the moment it could take a few games, so we urge the supporters to be patient and not to get on Gigis' back. Once the confidence returns, we must also abandon all hopes of promotion, reality dictates that the club must now safeguard its' future in the National, and to hope for the league to grant us another stay of execution for the professional status of the club. But let's get behind the team, support them like we did at Sedan and against Le Havre...your club needs YOU ! Chasing a victory

RINGING THE CHANGES. Following another reversal at Pau, more changes should come. Castro and Pizzo, both carrying injuries could find their positions in jeopardy. A decision will be taken this evening.

His career led him to Saint-Leu then to Sarcelles, his first club. A teacher by trade, he will return to the stadium where he trained under the instructions of Roger Lemerre.

Updated 12th October GUTLESS - LAST NIGHTS' PERFORMANCE. Our correspondant in Pau last night telephoned us on numerous occasions with developments in the match. Details of the game will appear tomorrow on the site, together with the line-ups, stats etc etc.
Pau the better of the two sides during the first period, but Red Star appeared to be reasonably well organized, and resisted the assaults until the 37th minute, when striker Christian Avezac outpaced two defenders and slotted the ball into the net past Jean-Marc Branger.
After the half-time bollocking, Red Star came more into the game, without making any impact on the score. Right at the end, Red Star conceded a penalty, transformed by Gérald Fournel. Often caught in offside positions, as they were at Dijon, Red Star wasted no end of opportunities. So, a long trip back with six defeats in twelve games, and more importantly, big problems for the rest of the season.
COUPE DE FRANCE. The draw hasn't done Red Star any favours at all, with an awkward trip to Poissy, a side noted for playing attractive open football under coach Eric Dewilder. Red Stars' reserves were lucky to scrape a draw 1-1 earlier in the season against Poissy in the CFA 2. The match will take place on Saturday 21st October at Poissy. Other cup ties featuring Paris clubs are :
Montereau (DHR) - Mantois (DH), Brétigny (DHR) - Noisy-le-Sec (N), UJA Alfortville (DSR) - Ivry (CFA 2), Sarcelles (DSR) - Evry (CFA 2), Trappes (PH) – Viry-Châtillon (CFA), Ermont (DH) - Colombienne (DH), Port. UNDER 15S. A trip to Nancy on Sunday 15th October, kick off 3pm CET at the Stade Marcel Picot.

Updated 11th October THIS EVENING. After tonights' match we will be able to see if Red Star are back on the road to recovery. At trainingAt the foot of the Pyrénées, Kader Ferhaoui & co have an opportunity to finally get their season (part two) underway with a game against a Pau side also experiencing some difficulties. For the trip, Jean-Luc Girard, assisted by Alim Ben Mabrouck will be without Rudy Perron (foot injury) as well as Laurent Castro. Robert Gomis and Dambou Traoré are once again available after suspension. The players leave this morning, by plane, and will return Thursday morning.
Guilhermo Mauricio GUILHERMO MAURICIO. Former Audonien Guilhermo Mauricio, who has scored four goals so far this season has the pleasure of seeing his team Laval sitting on top of division two after thirteen games played. Will the Lavallois climb back into the top flight after a twelve year absence ? Back in 1976 Laval hit the big time on the first occasion, at the detriment of Red Star. Laval pipped Red Star for promotion during the end-of-season play-off games.
Anthony Sirufo ANTHONY SIRUFO. Anthony has left Red Star 93. He arrived midway through last season, and took part in the great cup runs. He is now playing in Switzerland.
COUPE DE PARIS. Red Stars' third team have qualified for the next round, eliminating Cachan 2-1.
BAUER. Stade Bauer is currently being used for the training ground of the Reserves and the Under-17's. This enables the pitch at the Ile des Vannes to be rested. This weekend sees matches on Saturday at 3pm CET when second placed Red Star 93 Under 15's take on fourth placed Chantilly and on Sunday Red Star Third XI play Sarcelles in the DSR (3-30pm CET).

Stade Bauer

EDDY CAPRON. For the record, the first ever goalscorer at Sedans' new stadium is Eddy Capron, who played for Red Star from 1985 until 1988 bfore leaving Paris for Nantes then Rennes. A few teething troubles with the new installations - floodlight failure as well as the ball exploding ! The score finished at 2-1 in favour of Sedan.
A LITTLE LIGHT READING. At the moment, this site consists of 265 pages in French, 204 in English and no less than 798 images ! Impressive, uh ? We're still number one for news of Red Star !

Updated 10th October SUSPENSION. Brahim Thiam was the recipent of a yellow card at Dijon, which means that he will be suspended for the Coupe de France game.
Stade Emile Albeau Stade Emile Albeau ADIEU EMILE ALBEAU. Sedan will unveil their new stadium, the Stade Louis Dugauguez, named after a former Sedan coach as well as being the national team coach. Also in the series of famous old grounds closing their gates is of course Wembley stadium in London. On this site we'll be bringing you a feature on Wembley, with a close look at Red Star players who have trodden the famous turf. Who knows, one day we may even bring you a feature on the new Stade Bauer !
COLEMANBALLS. Not us, for once, but the official site of Red Star 93 (don't bother, it's not worth the visit !). PIZZO AND OPONGA. A contracture for the first, a knee injury for the latter and the two will be out for the trip to Pau.
Guénaël Le Maux LE MAUX. The contract of Guénaël Le Maux has been cancelled at the end of last week, and more departures are expected. Thus three "new recruits" have quit the club - Cascarino, Girardot and now Le Maux.

Updated 9th October DIJON – RED STAR 93. More than two thousand turned up to watch the match Saturday.
Chouett'info RINGING THE CHANGES. Jean-Luc Girard modified Red Stars' gameplan, and made one or two changes to personnel. In came Natchimie in defence alongside Thiam, Saxemard and Faye. Saragaglia moved up to midfield along with Busuttil, Rangdet making his first start for the club, and play maker Ferhaoui. Up front were Castro and Van Kets. Also included in the group was Rudy Perron.
Yoann Rangdet SATISFIED. Jean-Luc Girard was satisfied with his charges and their comportement during the game. Jean-Claude Bras, also present at the game was also content with the performance, but somewhat unhappy about Van Kets' disallowed goal.
CARETAKER. For the moment, Jean-Luc Girard is only the caretaker boss at Red Star, but if results go his way, then perhaps his adventure will be continued until the end of the season, and who knows, maybe even beyond.
FRIENDLY. With other clubs taking part in the French Cup, Red Star reserves played a friendly against Sedan reserves, and earned a 2-2 draw with gaols from A. Gomis & Jolibois.
COUPE DE FRANCE. Red Star 93 kick off this seasons' cup trail along with all the other clubs in the National, the weekend of 22 & 23 October.
UNDER 15'S & UNDER 17'S. Red Star Under 17's drew 1-1 with Saint-Dizier and the Under 15's drew 3-3 with Lens.

Updated 6th October FIRST OUTING. Jean-Luc Girard is now in sole charge of the first team for four days. With just twenty-four hours to go before his first match, his task is to help his charges rediscover some of the lost confidence. Red Star - UNFP One of the first chnages he has made is to get rid off the pointless weekly "training" matches between "Probables" and "Possibles". One of Lemées ideas, the games of one hour duration only served to cause injuries and to tire the players out unnecessarily before the Saturday matches. Before last Saturdays' game, Jean-Luc Girard told us "In our squad we have several players who are over thirty, these should be the "locomotives" of the team, but in playing these "opposition" matches, the lads wear themselves out. I'm not opposed to the idea in principle, but they should be spaced out more, to allow time for recovery." On the subject of Lemées game plans, he was strongly against the ideas of the ex-coach. "The system of play adopted by Jacky Lemée wasn't suitable for the National, and to the players which make up our squad." It is obvious that there was a gulf between Jacky Lemée, other technical staff members and of course the players. The contra-performance against Pacy only served to accelerate affairs. The players now have a new caretaker-boss, while the club looks for its "rare bird", but who knows, if the results go his way, the caretaker could be permanent. The players have the chance to express themselves, to adopt tactics more suitable for the National, and to give a good account of themselves against Dijon, unbeaten at home.
GIRARD. Looking back through the archives, we note that on two occasions Jean-Luc Girard has been in sole charge of Red Star 93. His record is as follows:
Division Two, 1998-99: Following the sacking of coach Jean Sérafin, Jean-Luc Girard took over for the home game against Châteauroux. The match was a 1-1 draw, but in his first away trip Red Star were thumped 5-0 at Sedan. Lying 16th in the table when Girard took the reins, the club finished 19th and were relegated. His total for the season reads:
P 23 W 5 D8 L 10 F 30 A 44 Pts 23
At the start of the National season, Girard was in sole charge for four games before the arrival of Pierre Repellini. His record reads:
P4 W1 D0 L 3 F 4 A 5 pts 3. The one win was a 3-1 drubbing of Fréjus, away.
THE SQUAD. Traoré and R. Gomis are both suspended; injured are Pizzo and Oponga. Saxemard is available after suspension, so he will be in defence alongside Thiam, Faye and Tacalfred. Branger, Castro, Van Kets and Ferhaoui will make the trip, and th rest will be selected from Saci, A. Gomis, Saragaglia, Aïchour, Busuttil, Randget, El Othmani, N'Goma, Abda and perhaps Serreau. The players leave La Courneuve this afternoon.

Updated 5th October INTERNAL SOULTION. Only the future can tell, but the decision to install Jean-Luc Girard in temporary charge of Red Star 93 in probably for the best. Jean-Luc Girard, choice of the people Gigi thus finds himself once again at the reins during a difficult spell. It has to be said that things are in a perilous state, since mid-July, with the last-minute replacement of Pierre Repellini by Jacky Lemée with just two weeks to go before the big kick-off. Having only just taken his jacket off, Jacky Lemée pushed Tony Cascarino into retirement, depsite the fact that Tony had been recruited as a key piece of the new set-up. Then followed more departures, players cast aside, and new arrivals, with the only result being the horrendous position that Red Star now find themselves in. Whatever, now let's forget the unpleasant past and get on with the future.
The advantage of Jean-Luc Girard is that he knows the set-up at Red Star, having represented the club in one form or another for fifteen years, as well as a tactical approach prefereable to the players. Also, the players must take responsibility and try and repair some of the damage done during the Lemée era.
Another sign for Jean-Luc is that he takes over just before a trip to Dijon, hometown of Christophe Fiatte, his best friend and who is now in charge of the reserves in the CFA 2 (to an astonishing level of success for the moment, it must be said). Anyway, our best wishes go to this popular and likeable man, and all the best for the future.
NEWS FROM AFAR. With the announcement of the arrival of Jean-Luc Girard as coach, we received two messages from supporters in far-flung places. Firstly, Jean-Noël in Vietnam said Good news ! Best wishes for this new season, and thanks once again for the well-received news here at the other side of the world."
Olivier in Hungary write and said "Thanks you for this precious information, you wouldn't believe how happy we were here in Hungary to receive the good news about my beloved club."
LEAGUE CUP. Once again Red Star have been drawn against D2 club Lorient. The match is set for Wednesday 1st November at the Stade Marville, kick off 8pm CET. Lorient are currently sixth on D2, following a 1-1 draw last Saturday against Sochaux.
CFA 2. On Saturday, the reserves hav a friendly against the reserves of Sedan
CHERRY PICKERS. The current malaise of so-called "agents" plundering the best young players from French clubs continues, with the news that two players from Red Stars' under-17's have been signed by Juventus in Italy. Red Star are in no way reimbursed for having coached these youngsters. About time the European law was changed to protect the small clubs.

Updated 4th October JACKY GETS THE BOOT. Jacky Lemée, coach of Red Star for just two months, has been "relieved of his functions" as coach of Red Star 93, it was announced, yesterday. In charge for two months, a period which has seen the miserable return of one win and seven points in ten games, and the Red Star lurch into the danger zone. He will be replaced for the moment by his assistant, the popular Jean-Luc Girard. First task for the "new" man is an onerous trip to Dijon.

DIVISION SUPERIEURE REGIONALE. RED STAR - PARIS SG: 1-1 (1-0). Goals: Red Star - Malfleury (30) ; Paris SG : El Kouraichi (75). A tough baptism in a higher league for Red Star third eleven, coached by Bruno Ducic.
A RED UNDER THE BED. Recently we noticed that the US military have been visiting the site - we suspect that the CIA have their eyes on, us, now that Fidel's long-lost cousin Laurent Castro is playing for us (not really - a joke !). We have news for them which will send their world-wide spider into overdrive - the match referee for the game at Dijon on Saturday will be Monsieur Alexandre Castro. Teacher by profession, from the Rhône-Alpes region, he has been a referee since 1985.
BRAVO. To Fabien, resident in the Nantes area, who correctly identified that Red Star have participated in eighteen Cup quarter finals, the answer to our little quiz the other day, and therefore wins the Centenary CD.

Souleymane Yali

Updated 3rd October GUESTS. Present at Saturday nights' fiasco were ex-Red Star players Dantheny, Rodighiero and Massard as well as Souleymane Yali, a very rare visitor to the club these days. Souleymane played in the green shirt for five seasons, before moving on to Ivry. Today, his football consists of kick-arounds with family & friends.
INTERVIEW WITH JEAN-CLAUDE BRAS IN THE PARISIEN. Jean-Claude Bras, president of Red Star 93 gave an interview with Stéphane Corby, which appeared in Saturdays' Seine-Saint-Denis edition of the paper. Here follows a translation of what he said.
"RED STAR continues the paradox. At the time when on the field results are calamitous, off the pitch the club has never been in a better state. Last Wednesday President Bras announced before the elected representative of the region and several future partners, that the club is to change its legal status from a sporting Association (non-profit making) to a limited company, and announced an ambitious project for the club. We asked him what the changes were all about.
Jean-Claude Bras : The club will change status to be a limited company, with new partners whom will be chosen by the administrative council of the club. With or without myself, there are serious propositions exisiting in order to develop a new Red Star project.
Jean-Claude Bras What are these projects ?
There are three aims. We wish to start the renovation of Stade Bauer at Saint-Ouen, to set up our youth development facilities, which will become regional, at Stade Marville and finally, when we are in Division One, to become a co-resident club at the Stade de France. This project should be moving before the end of this year.
There is a lot of talk concerning ex-League president Noël Le Graët taking over from you. What do you think of this ?
Noël is a friend who has given me useful advice and it appears that the Sports Minister, who has an interest in the future of the Stade de France had been impressed by the Red Star projects. I will simply remind you that contrary to Créteil and Racing, we were never candidates for the Stade de France (What ! - astonished ed). Results-wise, the first team is struggling.
Jacky Lemée, the coach, is he at risk ?
No, that is out of question. Indeed, the results are disappointing, but the team is getting better. We should take on board shortly two new players (Gilles Leclerc, ex-Sochaux sweeper has been mentioned - ed). There is no ultimatum hanging over the coach. We just have to get rid of the unlucky black cat which crosses our path".
CFA 2, RED STAR SOLID LEADER. Despite only drawing, the youngsters of Red Star consolidated their position as leader. Their main rivals stumbled, Moissy-Cramayel going tdown to promoted Châlons 1-0, Tinqueux lost at home to Chaumont 1-0 and Ivry at Créteil 1-0. Other results : Paris SG 2 Evry 0, Senlis 2 Toul Metz 1, Blénod – Auxerre 0-0, Saint-Dizier – Chantilly 2-1.
Red Star 93 have 22 pts, Moissy-Cramayel 18 pts, Tinqueux and Poissy 17 pts, Ivry 15 pts

Updated 2nd October SILENCE. A minutes' silence was observed Saturday evening in memory of Red Star supporter Pierre Pérez who died recently. The silence was respected impeccably by all in the stadium. Not difficult, though, given the pitiful number of supporters who turned out to watch the game. The small number of Pacy supporters who had made the trip are to be commended for their non-stop encouragement of their team through the match.
SAXEMARD & NATCHIMIE MISSING. The former suspended, the latter injured, this caused a few enforced changes to be made in thedefence. In came Thiam and Saragaglia.
CASTRO SUB. With his operation being put back, Laurent Castro was able to take his place on the subs bench. He came on with fifteen minutes remaining in place of Kader Ferhaoui.
SENDINGS OFF. In four games at Marville, four Red Star players have received their marching orders: Thiam (Grenoble), Saragaglia (Besançon), R. Gomis (Valenciennes) and on Saturday evening Traoré. Disciplinary problem ? What disciplinary problem ?
PISSED OFF IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. At the end of the match, the already dwindling support for Red Star diminished even further, as several expressed a will never to return to Marville again this season. In addition, cries of "Resign, Lemée echoed through the empty stands.
Rudy Perron END OF 100% RECORD. After five straight wins, Red Star reserves were unable to continue "doing a Fulham" and had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw with Poissy. Both coach Christophe Fiatte and his captain Gérald Milton agreed that Red Star wern't very good, but there are just days like that. In goal Charles Itandje was majestic for Red Star, denying Poissy on several occasions. Against the run of play midway through the second half, Rudy Perron (pictured) opened the scoring, only for Poissy to equalise in the last five minutes. Red Star still move one point further ahead of their rivals, who both lost. Moissy-Cramayel are now four points behind.
RED STAR 93 : Itandje, Tacalfred, Perron, EL Othmani (Deom 79), N'Goma, Sangar, Serreau, Abda, Milton (cap.), Aïchour, Randget (Jolibois 32).
Randget and El Othmani both went off injured. OTHER RESULTS. Under 17's - won away 2-0 at Reims; Under 15's beat Saint-Leu 1-0 at home and in the DSR, Red Star 1 Paris SG 1.
