CORSICANS. Of the three ex-GFCO Ajaccio players currently with Red Star, the likelihood is that two will miss Saturdays' game. Latest recruit Fabrice Richard (pictured, left) has not yet received the documents necessary for him to make his debuts, whilst Laurent Castro is out thorugh a muscular injury. His sill undergo exploratory tests tomorrow and we should know then the duration of his absence. Therefore the only one who is likely to figure in the starting line-up will be striker and top scorer Patrick Van Kets, pictured right. Thanks to ColUOnline.com for the photo. |

GOING UP, GOING UP...No, not the club in the table, unfortunately, but this site, in the list of the top football sites on Multimania by vists. We're in the top ten of the seven hundred or so sites hosted by Multimania. We're just behind Marseille, Nantes and a site about the D1 in general. Not bad, eh ! Just a pity the club wasn't sixth in the National...

UNDER 15S. Here is the current league table, with our boys sitting proudly on top - although Lens do have two games in hand.
MORE CHANGES. Brahim Thiam appears to have carried the can for the Clermont debacle - more changes are sure to follow after the Amnéville Horror. INFLATION …. In this weeks' France Football, there is a review of the book on Red Star, "Histoire d'un siècle, le Red Star". Unfortunately these "professional journalists" have given the price as 500 F. Actually the price is a mere 100 F + 20 F p&p - an absolute bargain - buy ten now for Christmas !! You can order it from Red Star, 92, rue du Docteur Bauer, 93400 Saint-Ouen. Also still available is the replica Red Star shirt, at the giveaway price of 160 F + 30 F p&p (International cheques made out to Red Star 93). Why waste your money on making Moanchester United even richer when you can help Red Star by buying their nice red shirt instead ? |

FABRICE RICHARD Former A.C. Ajaccio defender, currently without a club, Fabrice Richard has signed for Red Star 93, until the end of the season. Born the 16th August 1973 in Saintes (17), he is 6'2" for 12st 5lbs. His former clubs include Niort, Martigues, GFCO Ajaccio and A.C. Ajaccio, and also at Colchester in England. He should be registered in time for the home game next Saturday with fifth-placed GFCO Ajaccio, one of his former clubs. |
DISGRACEFUL. Nothing much to say - after letting in six at Clermont, Red Star have truly hit rock bottom slumping out of the French cup to the amateurs of Amnéville 3-2. Despite leading 1-0 against a club three divisions below, they then let in two goals before equalising, only to let the home side win with two minutes remaining on the clock. The only consolotation is that the club is now free to concentrate on league survival. |
|
COUPE DE FRANCE On Sunday at Amné,ville, Red Star will be fully aware of the danger of cup upset at the hands of the club from the DH. If there is an upset, it will not be the first (nor a surprise, really), as in the past on several occaions the club from 93 have been eliminated by lower division outfits. On two occasions in the east of the country - at Haguenau in 1976 (1-2) and at Neufchâteau in 1983 (1-2). |
TOUS PRESENTS. During yesterdays' training session, virtually a full squad reported present, with the exception of the injured Rudy Perron (foot). The session was scrutinised by the watchful eye of club president Jean-Claude Bras. His departure and the possible arrival of Noël Le Graët were dismissed by Bras ("I'm here, I'm staying put").

LATEST NEWS. After Saturdays' drubbing at Clermont Red Star find themselves deep in the brown stuff in 19th place, and in real danger of losing touch with the teams above them. Next league game at home to GFCO Ajaccio will once again be vital, for the whole future of the club perhaps. But before then, another opportunity for the players to line their pockets with cup win bonuses. On Sunday they travel to Amnéville for the next round of the Coupe de France, and the home side will be rubbing their hands at the probable chances of a giant-killing act. Last result for the Lorrains was a 2-2 home draw with Thionville. Sundays' kick-off is at 2-30pm CET. |

NATIONAL. Three wins on the trot for Red Star, firstly the excellent home win in the League Cup against Lorient, followed by the penalty shoot-out win in the French Cup at Marville against Noisy, then this weekend a deserved win in the league, only the second of the season, against Thouars. |
COUPE DE LA LIGUE. The draw for the next round will be made today, at around midday UK time, at Levallois-Perret. On Tuesday evening, Wasquehal with former Red Star man Richard Akiana booked their berth in the next round with a 2-1 over Caen. The next round will take place early January, and Red Stars' opponents could come from D1, D2 or even the National. As soon as we have the draw, we'll post it on the site... |

TONY CASCARINO (more / end). After seriously considering a final fling to help Red Star in their plight, Tony Cascarino has finally decided to hang up his boots for good. The motivation just isn't there for hime to endure the daily hard grind of training. |

SUBDUED. Once again the Parisien public showed its apathy for football. In the country which holds both European and World Cups, the country which can muster over a million on the Champs Elysées in July 1998 and June 2000, only a pitiful six hundred bother turning out for a derby match in the cup between two North Paris clubs. Imagine Bristol City - Bristol Rovers, or United - Wednesday, when 32,283 turned out last week for the League Cup tie. |
DRAW. The draw for the next round of the League Cup will take place on Friday November 10th at 12-30 CET at Levallois. SECOND TIME. This is the second time that Red Star have knocked Lorient out of the League Cup, the first came in 1996, a win on penalties following a 4-4 draw after extra time. Photo - Fabrice Dorizon, scorer of Red Stars' fourth goal. CASCARINO - A SLIGHT REPRISE (Sorry Jimi)... The rumours concerning a return of the Great Man are true, it appears that Tony wants to come back for one last stab at saving Red Star from the drop to the CFA. Now there's two fingers more to stick up at the departed coach... Your comments on the news, results, or anything you have to say about our club, site whatever : jwh@multimania.com |
MIRACLE AT MARVILLE A win to warm the hearts of everyone (except Lorient of course..), but especially coach Jean-Luc Girard. Probably his finest victory ever whilst in sole charge of the club, for once his under-pressure team proved the critics wrong. A fantastic atmosphere also, in the changing rooms at the end of the game - a victory to savour. No-one deserves praise above all the others, but nevertheless the two-goal contribution of the youngster Yoann Randget deserves a mention. |
