MORE DODGY PASSPORTS ?. Yet another history of false passports has emerged... this time under scrutiny is the italo-argentinian Marcello Luis Trapasso. He will appear before the court at Nanterre along with his solictor. More to follow, no doubt.

RED STAR AT IVRY. If the milder weather persists, then week 24 of the CFA 2 should be less affected than the previous round of games. Rennes are in the quarter finals having beaten Lorient 4-2 in the previous round. Red Stars' youngsters will have a stiff task in front of them, but for the first time in the competition this season, at least they have a home draw.

RED STAR IN QUARTER FINALS !. In a mudbath at Saint-Quentin, Red Star cruied their way through to a deserved victory and a quarter final berth in the Coup Gambardella. With only half an hour gone, David Pinto (photo) opened the scoring, Nicolas Mirza doubled the advantage seven minutes later. Guillaume Foulon made a fine save then the bar denied Saint-Quentin before a third goal in the final seconds sealed the game for the visitors following a defensive error. Red Star will be the "minnows" in the quarter finals, the other sides being Lyon, Auxerre, Metz, Bordeaux, Rennes, Caen and Paris SG or Lens (match to take place on Wednesday. Draw tomorrow at the HQ of the Crédit Agricole.
RED STAR 93 : Foulon, Pinto, Ouattara, Diomande, Ekani, Diawara, Mirza, Agoh, Deom, Nono Dieyou (Lakrout 61), N'Boungou. Subs : Diallo, Traoré, Sarrea, Saunier. Coach : A. Bornand.
Patrick Van Kets PRESENT … ABSENT. Patrick Van Kets (photo) was back in first team action after a long lay-off through injury, but Djebrane Abda was missing, not having trained all week due to a virus.
ALSO BACK. Camille Oponga watched the game from the stands, back from a spell in the clinic at Cap Breton. Camille will continue to follow the path to recovery in the Paris area.
CATS AND DOGS. Saturdays' game took place under a deluge, which almost threatened to wipe the game out in the first half. The pitch didn't suffer, however, thanks to the care and hard work of the groundsman at Marville.

SQUAD. Other than Arthur Gomis out through suspension, coach Pierre Repellini should stick with the same squad that forced a goalless draw against Istres last week. In attack, Hakim Saci could be in line for a recall, back from suspension, for the second of three consecutive home games at Marville. Incidentally the third of the three, Pau, should kick off at 8pm CET. Photo - The changing rooms at Stade Marville, Red Star 93
DIJON. Eight wins, half on their travels, and Dijon, promoted last season are living up to expectations and having a good season so far (12th, 36 points). Top scorer is Cédric Ruiz. Coach is Daniel Joseph, in office since 1999. Earlier in the season Red Star earned a creditable 0-0 at Dijon, and even had a late goal disallowed.
ALSO THIS WEEKEND. Top fixture (providing that the weather does not intervene) has to be at Amiens, top, welcome third placed Grenoble. Istres (2nd) travel to bottom club Thouars; Clermont (4th) are at home to Valenciennes; Racing (7th) v Alès (12th), GFCO Ajaccio (9th) v Reims (6th & going well); Brest (5th) v La Roche-sur-Yon (8th), Valence (10th) – Besançon (13th), Louhans-Cuiseaux 16th) – Noisy-le-Sec (17th); finally Pau (15th) v Pacy-sur-Eure (18th).

COUPE GAMBARDELLA. Rendez-vous at Saint-Quentin for a place in the quarter finals. Red Stars' youngster lost 3-0 at Auxerre, watched by Guy Roux, but they did field a side made up of regulars and hopefuls, no doubt saving the best elements for the cup tie. Answer, Sunday.

24 000. No, not the average gate at Marville, nor the average wage of a footballer in the National, but the amount paid by the Ligue Nationale de Football for the private box of Monsieur Gérard Bourgoin, president. Elsewhere clubs go to the wall for lack of funding. Lets get our priorities right, shall we ?

PACY-SUR-EURE V RED STAR 93 : MATCH OFF

WATERLOGGED PITCH

BUSY BUSY. Whilst the "starts" of the D1 complain that they have too many games to play, at the same time having a three week holiday, the boys in the National have to play three games in seven days. Red Star therefore have to mae the relatively short trip into Normandy to play Pacy-sur-Eure. They have of course been warned that an Englishman in on his way and may be carrying Foot & Mouth disease. Pacy are enjoying a mini-revival at present, having taken nine points in six games. Since the three-all draw earlier in the season at Marville, striker Cherif Oudjani has arrived, formerly having played with Lens, Laval, Matra Racing, Sochaux, Beauvais among others.
Pierre Repellini should keep faith with the side that drew with Istres, but will still be without the suspended Arthur Gomis but will have Hakim Saci availalbe after suspension..

MONSIEUR CHAT. Monsieur Chat will be the referee for the match Pacy - Red Star 93. Will he be a real pussy, we ask, or will he talk too much ?
CHAMPIONNAT DE FRANCE. The under 17s of Alain Bornand beat Brétigny 2-0 on Sunday, and have a trip to Auxerre on Wednesday. Next Sunday at 3pm CET, they are back in Gambardella Cup action at Saint-Quentin.

ITANDJE, BUSUTTIL, NATCHIMIE, PIZZO, ABDA (A. GOMIS), JOLIBOIS. Pierre Repellini went back to a local formula for Saturdays' game, in selecting several locally-born players. Photo - Mickaël Natchimie
Pierre Repellini PIERRE REPELLINI. Pierre Repellini followed the game from the stands, due to his being suspended from the touchline. In the first half he watched the game along with director Claude Thuel then in the second half alongside youth team supremo Alain Bornand. He kept in touch with the bench thanks to his portable telephone.
UNHAPPY. Pierre Repellini thought that the sending off of Arthur Gomis a little harsh. Arthur had only been on the field for half an hour before receiving his marching orders.
HAPPY. Pierre Repellini was on hand to congratulate his young charges as they returned to the dressing rooms after the game.
FAMOUS FAN. Francis Borelli, former PSG director was present at Marville for the game.
AND OTHERS NOT QUITE SO FAMOUS. But rowdy, all the same ! In the stand opposite the main stand were a group of local youngsters encouraging Istres ! Well, in particular two players Nassim Akrour and Nordine Aïteur, both born in the Paris area at Courbevoie and Saint-Denis. Both were formerly with Noisy-le-Sec.
ABSENT. Aziz Belissaoui once again missing through injury. David Guion, another former Red Star man did play, however, and at the end of the game told us that it is vital for Istres to be promoted to D2.
WALID AICHOUR. Walid Aïchour, out through illness was present in the stands? He also missed the trip with the reserves to Auxerre.
RED STAR – DIJON AT 6PM CET. Note that next Saturdays' game at home to Dijon will kick off at 6pm, to avoid a clash with the match at the Stade de France between France and Japan. Presumably organisers of the international are worried of a low turn-out at the Stade de France if Red Star are playing the same evening !
Jean-Michel Bridier SPIES. Jean-Michel Bridier (pictured alongside Didier Padovan), is now in charge of recruitment at Créteil after being in charge of the youth team. He was at Marville, no doubt checking up on the progress of Charles Itandje, whom he also saw in action last season when Red Stars' under-17s met their rivals from Créteil.
CFA 2. Auxerre – Red Star 3-0. Coach Christophe Fiatte told us exclusively "A show of biased refereeing... just before they scored their first goal, the ref should have given us a penalty and straight afterwards they went and scored. After that we left ourselves open to counter-attacks... now we have to look forwards to next weeks' game."
Moissy-Cramayel were held at home by neighbours Evry whilst Poissy are hot on their heels following a 1-0 win over Saint-Dizier 1-0. Other scores : Paris SG – Chantilly 2-0, Ivry – Blénod 0-0, Senlis – Créteil 0-1. Toul – Tinqueux & Chaumont – Châlons were postponed.

Newsflash
Charles Itandje

CHARLES ITANDJE MAKES HIS DEBUT

For Saturdays' home game against Istres, Red Stars' goalkeeper will be Charles Itandje.
Charles Itandje, aged 18, will be making his first appearance in the first team, following his wondergoal scored for the reserves last weekend against Chaumont in the CFA 2.
Charles has been with the club since 1997.

Entraînement

CHANGES IN THE AIR. Pierre Repellini will again be shuffling the pack, due to enforced absences. Saci will be out suspended, but senior players such as Ferhaoui, Castro, Van Kets and Richard could be in the reckoning for a call-up. Final training today, 10am CET at Marville. Once again the players will meet up at Stade Bauer before the game. Photo - two players now at Istres, David Guion and Aziz Belissaoui train in the colours of Red Star.
GHOST TOWN. Tomorrow evening the Stade Marville could be virtually empty, given the recent poor performances of Red Star, the distance involved and the similar apathy for the visitors. Son to all you stay-away supporters, okay the fayre may be poor, but make the effort, come on and encourage the team, who knows, miracle do happen ! Incidentally, a couple of weeks ago, we suggested on the site that the club should drop admission prices in a bid to get bums back on seats... fallen on deaf ears, it appears !
WE'LL WIN AGAIN, DON'T KNOW WHERE.... Our last win goes back to the 11th November when we beat a poor Thouars 2-0. That's four months without a win. Last time we had such a catastrophe goes back to 1986-87.
Ennis Saïti DIRECTION AUXERRE. Sundays' match at Auxerre in the CFA 2 is at risk, due to the recent flooding of the River Yonne in Auxerre. Other games taking place this weekend are : Moissy-Cramayel v Evry, Poissy v Saint-Dizier and Chaumont v Châlons; Paris SG v Chantilly, Senlis v Créteil, Toul v Tinqueux, Ivry v Blénod.
WE WERE THERE FIRST !. Thursdays' Le Parisien carried an article on goalkeeper Charles Itandjes' wondergoal. The article used one of the photos from our site - now there's a novelty, a Red Star site supplying photos to the paper rather than the other way round ! Anyway, a nice touch was that Charles dedicated the goal to his six month old son Kilian.

Updated 14th March

TED AGASSON. On Friday evening, at the Stade Nungesser, we spoke to Ted Agasson who had popped along to watch the match Valenciennes – Red Star. He left disappointed with the performance, but also because ther remains only two of his former team-mates, Saci and Busuttil as well as the coaching staff. Ted, now at table-toppers Lille, has been out of action since an appendix operation in mid-November. An operation which prevented him from playing against former team-mate Steve Marlet in the match Lyon – Lille.
So how are things going, Ted, ?
"Since the start of the year I've had one or two niggling injuries but I'm on the way back to full recovery, I'm playing in Sundays' game for the reserves in the CFA (Lille thumped leaders Raon-l'Etape 4-0 but eventually Ted didn't play). I'm a little short of form, this week we didn't work with the ball, more concentrated on physique."
You prefer to work with the ball rather than physical training which isn't your thing, in reading the interview with your coach in France Football.
"I can tell you that I didn't appreciate what Halilhodzic said. He treated me like a work shy and that I didn't like hard work. I just say that last season I played the most number of games (35). Before Novembers' operation, I was a regular first-teamer. Oh well, that's life".
Looking at Lilles' current form, it's going to be hard to get back in ?
"At Toulouse (17th March), that would be a bit too soon, but after that the next match won't be until April 7th at home to Bordeaux. Between now and then we have a tournament in Morocco, and I'm going to do what it takes to get my place back".
You must be motivated, what with a title at stake or at least a place on the podium ?
"It's still not won, even though there are only six games remaining. We have to play Bordeaux and Lyon before ending with two away trips to the Parc des Princes and Monaco".
Ted, Europe, is it possible ?
"At the moment I'm at the end of my contact in May. Lille appear to want to keep me, but you never knwo in professional football, one day you're at a club, the next...?"
Any news of your former colleagues ?
"Karim (Fellahi) calls me regularly, sometimes Steve (Marlet), Fabien (Valéri), less often now that he's in Portugal. The other day at Lille – Saint-Etienne, Foussini (Diawara). That day, Saint-Etienne didn't deserve to let in four (4-1). Foussini even scored his first goal, he impressed me with his qualities - he's really come on a long way".
Ted Agasson Do you still follow Red Star ?
"Yes, and I'm very worried. After last seasons' cup runs - let's not forget that it was Red Star who knocked out Lille in the League Cup pe de la Ligue - I was hoping to see Red Star up at the top of the National. I don't understand certain things - when I see so many changes from one game to another !".
34 players used since the start of the season :
"A squad like that is more like a squad to play in Europe than in the National. I just hope that you can get of this mess".
ODD. For the second consecutive game, the referee was the same one as for the game earlier in the season.
PIERRE REPELLINI. Two matches of suspension for the Red Star coach after being dismissed from the bench during the last home game.
CFA 2 RESULTS. Results from week 21 are : Blénod – Paris SG 0-3, Châlons – Auxerre 1-4, Créteil – Toul 1-0, Evry – Chantilly 0-0 & Saint-Dizier – Ivry 4-3.
Ryad Fellahi COUPE DE PARIS. In the quarter finals, Red Star beat Fontainebleau, another club from the DSR. Paass scored the second goal in the 80th minute after Ryad Fellahi (photo) had opened the scoring in the first half (30).
ABDEL DJAADAOUI. Former Red Star coach Abdel Djaadaoui has been dismissed as coah of Algeria following a disappointing 5-2 defeat against Egypt in a World Cup qualifier.

Updated 13th March

GOAL OF THE SEASON ? Just as Chaumont looked to be cruising to a comfortable 2-0 away win at Red Star reserves in the CFA 2, and as the seconds ticked away into injury time, the home side pulled back what appeard to be a consolation goal through Walid Aïchour. Red Star pressed forwards in search of an equaliser, earning a corner that came to nought, despite the efforts of goalkeeper Charles Itandje making a foray into the other half of the pitch. Chaumonts' number one Laurent Fromholtz thumped the ball forwards, ball collected back by Red Stars' Faye. Fouled, then Red Star are awarded a free kick just on the halfway line, virtually on the touchline. Faye stepped up to take the kick, but he was stopped in his tracks by his own goalkeeper, Itandje. Charles stepped back one two three, ran forwards and humped the ball towards the Chaumont goal. It flew... and flew.. and flew... straight over the goalies' head and into the back of the net to earn Red Star an improbable draw. Scenes of delirium, Charles running everywhere and joy on one set of faces, disbelief on the other.
Thank you, Charles, in a season of such awfulness, you gave us a moment of pleasure to lift the clouds... unforgettable !

Charles Itandje
A superb example of sportsmanship : Charles Itandje, congratulated by an opponent, smiles all round.

Red Star 93 : Itandje, Abda, Faye, R. Gomis, El Othmani, N'Goma, Serreau, Pizzo, Milton, Aïchour, Malfleury (Pendola 74).
Moissy-Cramayel didn't play but still lead Red Star by one point.

DEEP IN IT. Meanwhile the first team are even seeper in the mire after another disappointing defeat at Valenciennes. Worse, a brawl between virtually all of the players after a spat between home goalie Xavier Henneuse and Saci, who wanted the ball back after scoring the penalty. Saci booked then sent off hardly helped Red Stars' cause in a real shit of a season. Saci will be out for Saturdays' game against Istres, as will be Busuttil and N'Goma both serving suspensions. Positive point - the first goal of the season for Arthur Gomis (pictured)
AND YOU THOUGHT BRIAN MOORE WAS BAD.... Monsieur Thierry Rolland, incompetant buffoon and TF 1 commentator cocked up yet again on Saturday during the Cup match Reims v Bastia.
Following the nasty tackle on Gaston Diamé by Fabrice Richard, Monsieur Thierry Rolland told the entire country that the Red Star player should have asked for news about the injured player. Fabrice did in fact go and see his opponent whilst in hospital. On Sunday, however, Thierry Rolland did apologize live on Téléfoot, stating that Fabrice had gone to see Diamé, but nevertheless it doesn't change our opinion of the man.
CHAMPIONNAT DE FRANCE. The under 17s drew 1-1 at Mulhouse whilst the under 15s got hammered 4-0 at Nancy, playing at ten following the sending off of their goalie.
COUPE DE PARIS. Red Star (DHR) won 2-1 at Fontainebleau

Updated 8th March

MUST WIN. The latest rumours making the tour of French football offer a glimmer of hope to Red Star 93, and their battle to stay in the National.
The plan is to extend to First Division from 18 to 20 clubs, with the knock-on effect of perhaps only two clubs going down out of the National. If Red Star can climb a couple of places, then there remains hope. As per usual, nothing is straightforwards. Normally, if a National club fails financially, as did Mulhouse, then instead of a club being saved from the drop, another place is opened to one of the second-placed teams in the CFA (re: Reims, two years ago). But, the rules change from season to season, so anything is possible. La Roche are in financial plight, as are Valenciennes, maybe one or two other clubs are finding life tough in the National - surprises abound. We'll have to wait and see, but either way, Red Star must get their act together and start winning if they seriously want to reamin in D3
BREAK. The site will be on holiday until next Tuesday. Sorry !
Action VALENCIENNES UP A CREEK. Like their opponents Red Star, Valenciennes are going through a rough patch, with only four points having been taken from the last twenty one available. At home the record is P11 W5 D3 L 3 F11 A11. Top scorer is also the Nationals' top scorer - H. Lachaab with 14, and will be a target for Red Stars' unreliable defence. Last week at Pau coach Ollé-Nicole had the following line-up : Henneuse, Vigier, Usai, Duncker, Rauturier, Monchau, Scrimenti, Toraman, Bahoken, Rémy, H. Laachab, Lacam, Rjillo, Piorum.
Valenciennes and their president Bernard Moreau zere looking to push for promotion this season after finishing fifth in 1999-2000. Their current financial situation also leaves the club with some serious worries.
ALSO THIS WEEKEND. Other than Valenciennes - Red Star, taking place this weekend are : Dijon v Pacy-sur-Eure, Istres v Pau, Besançon – Brest, Noisy-le-Sec – GFCO Ajaccio and Alès – Clermont Foot.
Remaining games will take place on Tuesday 3rd April, as four National sides are still involved in the cup. Valence, Amiens and Reims welcome Strasbourg (D1), Le Mans (D2) and Bastia (D1) respectively, while National leaders Grenoble travel to D2 club Châteauroux.
RED STAR – CHAUMONT. Secnd play third on Sunday at Marville, when in the CFA 2 Red Star 93 reserves welcome Chaumont. Coach of the club from the Haute-Marne is Bernard Chaffaut, in charge since 1990. Chaumont have reached D2, the last time being in 1990-91, befor going into liquidation and starting again from scratch in the DH. Other games - leaders Moissy-Cramayel are at Tinqueux who beat Chaumont last weekend, Saint-Dizier – Ivry, Créteil – Toul, Evry – Chantilly, Senlis – Poissy, Blénod – Paris SG and Châlons – Auxerre.
Franck Bonora WORLD VICE-CHAMPION. Franck Bonora (photo), who spent a few months at Red Star (1998-99) has become world vice-champion of Beach Soccer along with Cantona and Olmeta …
LE RED STAR … STILL SAINT-OUEN. L'Equipe on Wednesday carried a report on the performance of Sydney Govou, two goals for Lyon against Bayern Munich (3-0)
The article said "Once again Govou, who made headlines for the first time last season when OL, in difficulty at SAINT-OUEN, scored twice to save his club".

OM - Red Star, 1996 LETTER FROM MARSEILLE. We received a letter from Joseph in Marseille:
"Although Marseillais, I have been a Red Star supporter for ten years. I hope that the club stays in the National. Congratulations for your site which I find excellent, and when I read it it is obvious that the site is done by people who love football. In particular I like the reports from games from the past."

UNDER 17S. Red Stars' kids lost 0-2 to Reims yesterday, and have a trip to Mulhouse. Against Reims, Red Star were never really in the game, and appeared to be tired following the cup game.
JEAN-LUC GIRARD. Jean-Luc went under the surgeons' scalpel on Tuesday and the operation appeared to go OK. Best wishes to Gigi.

Updated 7th March

COUPE GAMBARDELLA In the last round of the Coupe Gambardella there were several surprise results : firstly Strasbourg at the hands of Tours (CFA) and several other D1 clubs struggled in order to progress : Paris SG, Metz, Lyon, Bordeaux. Caen appeared to have no such problems, thumping poor Fougères 11-0. There are stil lfour games outstanding from this round, so the draw contains a few "either / or" ties. Here is the full draw, games to be played on Sunday 25th March:

  • Saint Quentin - RED STAR 93
  • Nantes ou Pau - Bordeaux
  • Paris-Saint-Germain - Lens
  • Lorient - Rennes ou Le Castanet - Lorient
  • Tours - Caen
  • Metz - Nîmes
  • Auxerre ou Louhans-Cuiseaux - Monaco ou Nice
  • Saint-Etienne - Lyon
Another away trip for Alain Bornands' youngsters, but at least they have avoided a D1 outfit. Saint Quentin is a club 150km to the north of Paris, and their first team play in the CFA.
Guilhermo Mauricio EX-RED STAR MAN IN THE NEWS. Guilhermo Mauricio (photo, playing in a Coupe Gambardella match against Lens), former Red Star striker currently at Laval scored two of his clubs goals, the second time he has achieved that this season. Aged 28, Guilhermo has already played over two hundred games in D2. He once scored a hat-trick for Red Star, in May 1997, in a 3-0 win over Niort.
MONSIEUR DJOUZI. Stéphane Djouzi from the Ligue Méditerranée will officiate Fridays' match at Valenciennes. Site manager, he has been a referee since 1986, and is 31.
RICHARD BACK. Pierre Repellini will have the services of defender Fabrice Richard, back from suspension for the trip to the north on Friday.
Fabrice Mary INJURY LIST NEWS. Camille Oponga is undergoing a rehabilitation course at Cap Breton, whilst Fabrice Mary (photo, against Ajaccio, last season) is on the road to recovery.
COMPARISONS. Canal Plus on Monday referred to the game Real Madrid v Barcelona. "This match can't be compared to France and Paris SG - OM. In Spain, the match Paris SG v OM would be like Bar-le-Duc v La Roche-sur-Yon". Doesn't say much for Red Star, then ! Incidentally, on the subject of derby matches, on the 22nd December 2000 in a Parisian derby, Red Star v Racing CP drew 400 spectators, whilst four days later in the UK, Gainsborough Trinity v Worksop Town, two near neighbours attracted 1084 paying spectators. And which country won the World Cup ?
RED STAR 93 - CHAUMONT. Sunday 11th March, Red Star reserves are back at Marville, for the game against Chaumont, kick-off 3pm CET. The rest of the seasons' home games will be played at Pierrefitte.
CHAMPIONNAT DE FRANCE. The Under 15s have a game on Sunday 11th March at the Ile des Vannes (3pm CET), where they welcome Nancy.

COMMENT. Since the start of the season, it has been said that the team lacks balls... on Saturday, despite going a goal behind, the players fought back hard and deserved to be in front just before the end of the game. With four home games coming up in March, and a renewed spirit of combat, perhaps anything is possible..
Saturdays defeat snatched from the jaws of victory owes a lot to bad luck - dodgy refereeing, Pierre Repellini banished from the touchline three minutes from the end, an inury to Mickaël Pizzo and then general panic with the resulting consequences...
Now a trip to the north awaits, where Valenciennes are also experiencing hard times. Often at Stade Nungesser Red Star have come away with a result, including the historic Valenciennes – Red Star of the 26th June 1971 where Red Star were fighting for their place in D1. So, let's remain optimistic, at least one more time.
Kamel Ouejdide OUEJDIDE. Kamel Ouejdide watche'd the game at Marville on Saturday, following a foot operation. Kamel (photo, with Rudy Perron) is on-loan from Caen this season.
HULL CITY MARK 2 ?. La Roche-sur-Yon left Marville on Saturday with three points, but did they get paid for it ? Until Friday, it wasn't 100% certain that the game was still on, the players haven't been paid. No news from their president, either - he's gone away on holiday. Another turn-up in the crazy world of the National... who'll be there at the end of the season and the start of next one ?
COUPE GAMBARDELLA. Paris St Germain and Red Star 93 are two of the clubs who go into the hat for the draw, today at the offices of the bank Crédit Agricole.
DSR SLUMP. Red Star 93 lost 1-2 at Sarcelles and now are eighth in the championship.
Fousseni Diawara / Mickaël Pizzo FOUSSENI DIAWARA. Faces in the crowd at the Stade de la Porte de Montreuil included PSG coach Luis Fernandez, no doubt come to "cherry-pick" the best of Red Stars' kids. Also present was ex-Red Star man Fousseni Diawara.
Fousseni, victim of a knee injury is sidelined and found the time to come and encourage the Under-17s and in particular his brother, team captain Abdoulaye. At the end of the game he gave us an exclusive interview.
How's it going ?
"Good, my injury is virtually fully healed I'm back in training, and I hope to back in action for the trip to Troyes on April 7th.".
At Troyes to see your older brother Samba ?
Samba is okay, he's back in action with the Troyes reserves in CFA 2. He was out of action for nearly six months, following injury. He also hopes to back in the first team before the end of the season. These accidents are part of life as a footballer.
What do you think about the situation at Saint-Etienne ?
"It isn't easy to get on - we're dropping points and we have to battle for our place in D1. It's the same challenge as Red Star, who I hope stay in the National. Personally, for me, since I arrived at Saint-Etienne in August, it has been great. I came here to learn from the players with division one experience, and having my ex-team mate Karim Fellahi helped me to integrate. I took the chance offered to me, and before injury I was a regular in the first team. A big jump, when you consider that I was still playing in the CFA 2 only last season !.
Also, I've already scored a goal in D1 so I am one up on Karim ! Saint-Etienne must stay in D1, the crowds are extraordinary, and for the players on the pitch we have to give 100%. We'r going to stay in D1 !"
Let's hope that all "Verts" avoid the drop !
"I'm sure of it - and here's a hello to all Red Star supporters". Photo : Foussini Diawara, in training at the start of the season, alongside Mickaël Pizzo.
RESERVES. Differing opinions after the game - supporter Guy had abandoned Marville to go and watch the reserves instead. After the game, he said that Red Star didn't play to their normal standards, but Poissy deserved their win.
Red Stars reserve teams' trainer said that it was a good game, but that Red Star had played a muche better game in losing than they had in the 1-0 win last week over Chantilly.
Christophe Fiatte said "It was a stiff test against a side who play in the same way as us. The match was a foretaste of games in the CFA."
Rendez-vous on Sunday at Marville where third placed Chaumont are the visitors. Kick off 3pm CET.
Goal : Faye (84 o.g.).
Bookings : Baidomti (22) - N'Goma (29).
POISSY : Mondon, Baidomti (Gomis, 86), Abboud, Maingé, Niang ,Sinobad, Salgado, Dniguer, T. Meunier (Haffiane, 84), Raddas (D. Meunier, 69), Basilio. Coach: E.Dewilder.
RED STAR 93 : Itandje, Saragaglia, El Othmani, Saxemard, Faye, N'Goma (Pendola, 85), Van Kets, Abda, Aïchour, A. Gomis, Milton. Coach: C.Fiatte.

UNLUCKY OR JUST PLAIN CRAP ?. What can one say - for the first time in ages, it could be said that Red Star deserved to beat La Roche-sur-Yon on Saturday. It just about sums the season up, especially the cruel way in which they lost. Still, at least it's something to work on before the next trip to Valenciennes on Friday. A club not without it's own problems too.
FIRST. Starting a game for the first time at this level, Price Jolibois soon showed everyone that he knows where the goal is. One positive point, coming from a player whose previous championship appearances had been limited to a subs place against Alès.
Franck Busuttil UNLUCKY FRANCKIE. Franck Busuttil (photo) had to leave the game on a stretcher seconds before the end, and as it turned out a turgning point in the game.
RED STAR REPLY. Following several rather critical articles which have appeared in Le Parisien in recent days, the club management issued a statment, the translation of which is below:

"DIVISEURS ! (DIVIDERS !)

Once again, on the eve of matchday, the Sports' Desk of Le Parisien try to create a climate of crisis at the club.
A worrying article penned by Alain Hodent hangman at the moment, carries out a destablising programme which has gone on for two months.
Article after article, his editorial team have systematically twisted, deformed or written couner truths which we have in vain tried to balance the scales in using our legal right to reply (article 13), unpublished up to press.

IS RED STAR CENSORED ?

Is a hateful and unscrupulous campaign is being waged against our club ? To what purpose ?
Red 93 is in ggod shape, the management, coaching staff, trainers, players and the true supporters are united, the future of our club is safe.

OUR FIRST TEAM IS IN DIFFICULTY, LETS GET BEHIND THEM, TOGETHER.

Red Star 93"
My comments... perhaps Le Parisien is telling the truth - no smoke without fire, perhaps ? Whatever, at least the clubs' statement is one of the first admissions that all is not well, which makes a change from "We'll get out of this" or "Repellini remains optimistic". The ostrich approach appears to have been abandoned. Still, the reality is that money is draining fast from the club - wages and very poor crowds are seeing to that - the Centre de Formation is likely to disappear with relegation, several employees at the club will be signing on the dole, and the number of sides run by the club is likely to drop substantially. Crisis ? What Crisis ?
COUPE GAMBARDELLA. Red Star 93 are through to the last sixteen of the competition after seeing off Paris FC away, watched by 250 spectators including a large following from Red Star. AGOH scored Red Stars' first after the hour, and in injury time substitute Lakrouk sealed a great 2-0 for the visitors.
RED STAR 93 : Foulon, Dinto, Ouattara, Diamonde, Ekain, Diawara, Muza (Traoré 88), Agoh, Deom (Lakrouk 81), Nonopriedjou, N'Boungoum. Subs : Moutionguissa, Kachadeir. Coach : Alain Bornand.

Action

FACE IN THE CROWD. Fousseni Diawara was present at the Porte de Montreuil to cheer on the youngsters, and in particular his brother and Red Star captain Abdoulaye. More on this and on Fousseni tomorrow.
RESERVES SLIP UP. Red Star reserves went down 1-0 at Poissy, slipping to second place behind Moissy-Cramayel who won 2-0 against Châlons. One point separates the clubs. Other results : Auxerre – Blénod 2-2, Paris SG – Evry 1-0, Chantilly – Saint-Dizier 4-2, Chaumont – Tinqueux 1-3, Toul – Senlis 2-2. The match between Ivry and Créteil was abandoned.
CHAMPIONNAT DE FRANCE. Red Stars' under 15s beat Villepinte 2-1

LOOK TO THE RESERVES FOR INSPIRATION. In these grim times for the first team, perhaps inspiration should be taken from their comrades riding high on top of the CFA 2. Captain Gérald Milton and his merry men deserve our congratulations. Christophe Fiatte has taken over from Patrice Lecornu and the progress has continued, as it always has with the second XI and it's youngsters. Cheers, lads, and ALLEZ RED STAR !
Jean-Luc Girard

NEWS OF JEAN-LUC GIRARD. Red Stars' assistant coach and loyal servant who fell victim to a serious knee injury during a training session will undergo surgery next seek at the clinic at Champigny-sur-Marne, before undergoing a long period of rehabilitation. Our best wishes go out to Jean-Luc.
THIERRY SAXEMARD BACK ?. The long suspension handed down to Brahim Thiam could mean a return to the first XI for Thierry Saxemard. N'Goma could also be in for a call-up, as could one or more of the youngsters. Last training session on Friday.
CFA 2 AT POISSY. For the twentieth match of the season, Red Stars' reserves have a tough trip to Poissy this weekend. In the match earlier in the season the teams were locked at 1-1. Since then the first team played there in a Cup match and won rather unconvincingly 3-0, despite the scoreline. Poissy are lying in fifth place and are putting the pressure on the teams above them. Incidentally Red Stars' third goal in the cup match was scored by current reserve team captain Gérald Milton. Kick off Saturday 6pm CET. Click here for the presentation of Poissy
Other games this weekend are : Chaumont (3rd) –Tinqueux (13th), Moissy-Cramayel (2nd) – Châlons (12th), Chantilly (14th) – Saint-Dizier (15th), Paris SG (10th) – Toul (8th), Ivry (6th) – Créteil (4th), Auxerre (11th) – Blénod (16th).
Gérald Milton GREALD MILTON IN FOCUS. One has the impression that Gérald Milton is part of the scenery at Red Star, but in fact Gérald has only just turned 22. He has spent ten years at the club, arriving as a youngster in 1991. He stepped into the spotlight last season with the League Cup run, including two splendid goals against Nîmes and a real beauty in the next round against Saint-Etienne. In total he played twenty three times last season, but this season his appearances have been somewhat limited, compensated for the fact that he has been appointed captain of a very successful reserve team.
COUPE GAMBARDELLA. Last sixteen stage : Paris FC – Red Star 93, Porte de Montreuil, 2-30pm CET, Sunday 4th March.
CHAMPIONNAT DE FRANCE. Under 15s - Villepinte - Red Star 93, Sunday 4th March 3pm CET.
DHR. Also on Sunday, kick off 3-30pm : Sarcelles – Red Star 93

I BELIEVE... "The run of six consecutive defeats will end one day, why not against La Roche-sur-Yon. Why can't our players be capable of stringing together a run of six straight wins ? Yes, we can beat La Roche, Valenciennes, Istres, Pacy, Dijon and Pau. The fixture list is in our favour, let's take advantage of it. Then, with thity two points with eight games left to play all is possible. The players have to be convinced of it, survival is quite possible. Allez le Red Star, I BELIEVE."
Damien

EXPLAIN YOURSELVES, RED STAR. In the news over the last couple of days, two reports on the plight of the Red Star which are worth a comment and we hope, an explanation from the club, which up to date has taken the ostrich appraoch and buried it's head in the sand, hoping that everything will just go away. Crisis ? What crisis ?
Firstly, on Monday evening during TV L'Equipes' "Lundi Foot" programme, Didier Roustan dedicated part of his show to the match Red Star - Reims, following the serious injury to the visitors' Gaston Diamé. They showed images of the tackle from behind by the Red Star defender. Accident or intention ? Only Fabrice Richard knows the true reply. Fabrice made the trip to Reims on Monday to meet his "victim" who had an operation with apparently no complications. Gaston will not be pursuing the issue, but condemned the behaviour of one or more Red Star players. Didier Roustan named one, Hakim Saci, who is alleged to have said racist remarks to Diamé, who is black (Saci is of Algerian origin). Could this possibly explain why Saci has disappeared from the face of the earth and hasn't been seen since the game ?
If all this is true, and for the moment they are allegations, then the club should at least do something, rather than bury it's head in the sand. Red Star is a club which represents a whole region, a region of diversity of race, religion and backgrounds, and doesn't need to have it's name dragged throught the mud like this.

The second report was on Tuesday in the self-proclaimed "Bible of Football", France Football.
PSG IN RED STAR TAKEOVER ?
The paper referred to the wishes of Paris SG to "take over" the Youth Academy at Red Star, should Red Star lose its professional staus as a club in May. An academy which has had great success - the name of Steve Marlet was quoted - PSG are interested in some of Red Stars' brightest young prospects as well as some other D1 & D2 clubs. Don't forget that these kids will be free agents come the month of June. The vultures await already.

Let's try and share Damiens' optimism. Saturday evening will be the first step.
Action, Coupe Gambardella COUPE GAMBARDELLA (1). Next weekend, the next round of the Cup for youngsters named after a former president of the French FA takes place. Red Star, who play in the national Under-17s' competition take on Paris FC who play in the local Paris league. Rendez-vous at the Porte de Montreuil, Sunday 4th March -30pm CET. Other than this game, there will be : Lille – Lens, Fougères – Caen, Laval – Paris SG, Saint-Quentin – Rouen, Besançon – Metz, Lyon – Le Mans, Tours – Strasbourg, Louhans-Cuiseaux – Auxerre, Nice – Monaco, Le Bourget – Saint-Etienne, Vaulx-en-Velin – Nîmes, Pau – Nantes, Angoulême – Bordeaux, Castanet – Rennes, Stade Bordelais – Lorient.
Alain Gunia / Samuel Michel NEWS OF SAMUEL MICHEL. Red Stars' Rudy Perron close friend of Samy at Guingamp, brought us news of the ex-Red Star marksman. Father-of-three Samy is neither in the first team nor on the subs' bench these days, and stars in the CFA 2 with the reserves. His named was linked with a possible move to Niort and Créteil, but nothing came of that. Last Sunday, Samy, pictured right with Alain Gunia scored four goals. Nearly at the end of his contract with the Breton club, aged 30, we haven't heard the last of this goalscoring legend, one of the rare players to have scored over 100 times in D2.
MONSIEUR HUGUENIN. Laurent Huguenin from Normandy, aged 30 will be the offical for Saturday nights' game against La Roche-sur-Yon. He has been a referee since the age of 18.
