MORE DODGY PASSPORTS ?. Yet another history of false passports has emerged... this time under scrutiny is the italo-argentinian Marcello Luis Trapasso. Player with Gueugnon, he took part in, amogst other games, the semi final of the league cup last season Red Star v Gueugnon début April 2000. He will appear before the court at Nanterre along with his solictor. More to follow, no doubt. |
ITS RENNES. Yesterday afternoon the hand of fate drew the name of Rennes as future opponents of Red Star in the Gambardella Cup. Rennes are in the quarter finals having beaten Lorient 4-2 in the previous round. Red Stars' youngsters will have a stiff task in front of them, but for the first time in the competition this season, at least they have a home draw. |

RED STAR IN QUARTER FINALS !. In a mudbath at Saint-Quentin, Red Star cruied their way through to a deserved victory and a quarter final berth in the Coup Gambardella. With only half an hour gone, David Pinto (photo) opened the scoring, Nicolas Mirza doubled the advantage seven minutes later. Guillaume Foulon made a fine save then the bar denied Saint-Quentin before a third goal in the final seconds sealed the game for the visitors following a defensive error. Red Star will be the "minnows" in the quarter finals, the other sides being Lyon, Auxerre, Metz, Bordeaux, Rennes, Caen and Paris SG or Lens (match to take place on Wednesday. Draw tomorrow at the HQ of the Crédit Agricole. |
SQUAD. Other than Arthur Gomis out through suspension, coach Pierre Repellini should stick with the same squad that forced a goalless draw against Istres last week. In attack, Hakim Saci could be in line for a recall, back from suspension, for the second of three consecutive home games at Marville. Incidentally the third of the three, Pau, should kick off at 8pm CET. Photo - The changing rooms at Stade Marville, Red Star 93 RED STAR TOUL : GAME OFF. No Red Star v Toul this weekend, because the incessant rain which has fallen on the Paris region has made the pitch at Pierrfitte waterlogged. Other games - Blénod Chaumont, Châlons Ivry, Tinqueux Senlis, Chantilly Moissy-Cramayel, Evry Poissy, Saint-Dizier Paris SG & Créteil Auxerre. |
|
COP A LOAD OF THIS ONE, MISTER CIA MAN. Ther could be not one but two CASTROS on the pitch on Saturday. For Red Star, Laurent Castro could make his return to first team action, whilst the referee for the match is Alexandre Castro, a teacher from the Rhône-Alpes region. |
WHAT SHALL WE DO TONIGHT, THEN ?. For the moment only the game Pacy-sur-Eure v Red Star has fallen victim to the torrential rain experienced over the last couple of days. Note again that this site was the first to bring you the news, the others merely copied from us ! |
PACY-SUR-EURE V RED STAR 93 : MATCH OFFWATERLOGGED PITCHBUSY BUSY. Whilst the "starts" of the D1 complain that they have too many games to play, at the same time having a three week holiday, the boys in the National have to play three games in seven days. Red Star therefore have to mae the relatively short trip into Normandy to play Pacy-sur-Eure. They have of course been warned that an Englishman in on his way and may be carrying Foot & Mouth disease. Pacy are enjoying a mini-revival at present, having taken nine points in six games. Since the three-all draw earlier in the season at Marville, striker Cherif Oudjani has arrived, formerly having played with Lens, Laval, Matra Racing, Sochaux, Beauvais among others.
MONSIEUR CHAT. Monsieur Chat will be the referee for the match Pacy - Red Star 93. Will he be a real pussy, we ask, or will he talk too much ? |
ITANDJE, BUSUTTIL, NATCHIMIE, PIZZO, ABDA (A. GOMIS), JOLIBOIS. Pierre Repellini went back to a local formula for Saturdays' game, in selecting several locally-born players. Photo - Mickaël Natchimie |
CHARLES ITANDJE MAKES HIS DEBUTFor Saturdays' home game against Istres, Red Stars' goalkeeper will be Charles Itandje. |
CHANGES IN THE AIR. Pierre Repellini will again be shuffling the pack, due to enforced absences. Saci will be out suspended, but senior players such as Ferhaoui, Castro, Van Kets and Richard could be in the reckoning for a call-up. Final training today, 10am CET at Marville. Once again the players will meet up at Stade Bauer before the game. Photo - two players now at Istres, David Guion and Aziz Belissaoui train in the colours of Red Star. |

TED AGASSON. On Friday evening, at the Stade Nungesser, we spoke to Ted Agasson who had popped along to watch the match Valenciennes Red Star. He left disappointed with the performance, but also because ther remains only two of his former team-mates, Saci and Busuttil as well as the coaching staff. Ted, now at table-toppers Lille, has been out of action since an appendix operation in mid-November. An operation which prevented him from playing against former team-mate Steve Marlet in the match Lyon Lille. |
GOAL OF THE SEASON ? Just as Chaumont looked to be cruising to a comfortable 2-0 away win at Red Star reserves in the CFA 2, and as the seconds ticked away into injury time, the home side pulled back what appeard to be a consolation goal through Walid Aïchour. Red Star pressed forwards in search of an equaliser, earning a corner that came to nought, despite the efforts of goalkeeper Charles Itandje making a foray into the other half of the pitch. Chaumonts' number one Laurent Fromholtz thumped the ball forwards, ball collected back by Red Stars' Faye. Fouled, then Red Star are awarded a free kick just on the halfway line, virtually on the touchline. Faye stepped up to take the kick, but he was stopped in his tracks by his own goalkeeper, Itandje. Charles stepped back one two three, ran forwards and humped the ball towards the Chaumont goal. It flew... and flew.. and flew... straight over the goalies' head and into the back of the net to earn Red Star an improbable draw. Scenes of delirium, Charles running everywhere and joy on one set of faces, disbelief on the other.

DEEP IN IT. Meanwhile the first team are even seeper in the mire after another disappointing defeat at Valenciennes. Worse, a brawl between virtually all of the players after a spat between home goalie Xavier Henneuse and Saci, who wanted the ball back after scoring the penalty. Saci booked then sent off hardly helped Red Stars' cause in a real shit of a season. Saci will be out for Saturdays' game against Istres, as will be Busuttil and N'Goma both serving suspensions. Positive point - the first goal of the season for Arthur Gomis (pictured) |
MUST WIN. The latest rumours making the tour of French football offer a glimmer of hope to Red Star 93, and their battle to stay in the National.
COUPE DE FRANCE. Carcassonne (CFA 2) who play D1 club Nantes in the cup have Frédéric Ouvret (photo) playing for them. He was at Red Star during the season 92-93. |
COUPE GAMBARDELLA In the last round of the Coupe Gambardella there were several surprise results : firstly Strasbourg at the hands of Tours (CFA) and several other D1 clubs struggled in order to progress : Paris SG, Metz, Lyon, Bordeaux. Caen appeared to have no such problems, thumping poor Fougères 11-0. There are stil lfour games outstanding from this round, so the draw contains a few "either / or" ties. Here is the full draw, games to be played on Sunday 25th March:
EX-RED STAR MAN IN THE NEWS. Guilhermo Mauricio (photo, playing in a Coupe Gambardella match against Lens), former Red Star striker currently at Laval scored two of his clubs goals, the second time he has achieved that this season. Aged 28, Guilhermo has already played over two hundred games in D2. He once scored a hat-trick for Red Star, in May 1997, in a 3-0 win over Niort.MONSIEUR DJOUZI. Stéphane Djouzi from the Ligue Méditerranée will officiate Fridays' match at Valenciennes. Site manager, he has been a referee since 1986, and is 31. RICHARD BACK. Pierre Repellini will have the services of defender Fabrice Richard, back from suspension for the trip to the north on Friday.
INJURY LIST NEWS. Camille Oponga is undergoing a rehabilitation course at Cap Breton, whilst Fabrice Mary (photo, against Ajaccio, last season) is on the road to recovery.COMPARISONS. Canal Plus on Monday referred to the game Real Madrid v Barcelona. "This match can't be compared to France and Paris SG - OM. In Spain, the match Paris SG v OM would be like Bar-le-Duc v La Roche-sur-Yon". Doesn't say much for Red Star, then ! Incidentally, on the subject of derby matches, on the 22nd December 2000 in a Parisian derby, Red Star v Racing CP drew 400 spectators, whilst four days later in the UK, Gainsborough Trinity v Worksop Town, two near neighbours attracted 1084 paying spectators. And which country won the World Cup ? RED STAR 93 - CHAUMONT. Sunday 11th March, Red Star reserves are back at Marville, for the game against Chaumont, kick-off 3pm CET. The rest of the seasons' home games will be played at Pierrefitte. CHAMPIONNAT DE FRANCE. The Under 15s have a game on Sunday 11th March at the Ile des Vannes (3pm CET), where they welcome Nancy. |
COMMENT. Since the start of the season, it has been said that the team lacks balls... on Saturday, despite going a goal behind, the players fought back hard and deserved to be in front just before the end of the game. With four home games coming up in March, and a renewed spirit of combat, perhaps anything is possible.. |
| UNLUCKY OR JUST PLAIN CRAP ?. What can one say - for the first time in ages, it could be said that Red Star deserved to beat La Roche-sur-Yon on Saturday. It just about sums the season up, especially the cruel way in which they lost. Still, at least it's something to work on before the next trip to Valenciennes on Friday. A club not without it's own problems too. FIRST. Starting a game for the first time at this level, Price Jolibois soon showed everyone that he knows where the goal is. One positive point, coming from a player whose previous championship appearances had been limited to a subs place against Alès.
UNLUCKY FRANCKIE. Franck Busuttil (photo) had to leave the game on a stretcher seconds before the end, and as it turned out a turgning point in the game.RED STAR REPLY. Following several rather critical articles which have appeared in Le Parisien in recent days, the club management issued a statment, the translation of which is below: "DIVISEURS ! (DIVIDERS !)Once again, on the eve of matchday, the Sports' Desk of Le Parisien try to create a climate of crisis at the club. IS RED STAR CENSORED ? Is a hateful and unscrupulous campaign is being waged against our club ? To what purpose ? OUR FIRST TEAM IS IN DIFFICULTY, LETS GET BEHIND THEM, TOGETHER. Red Star 93" My comments... perhaps Le Parisien is telling the truth - no smoke without fire, perhaps ? Whatever, at least the clubs' statement is one of the first admissions that all is not well, which makes a change from "We'll get out of this" or "Repellini remains optimistic". The ostrich approach appears to have been abandoned. Still, the reality is that money is draining fast from the club - wages and very poor crowds are seeing to that - the Centre de Formation is likely to disappear with relegation, several employees at the club will be signing on the dole, and the number of sides run by the club is likely to drop substantially. Crisis ? What Crisis ? COUPE GAMBARDELLA. Red Star 93 are through to the last sixteen of the competition after seeing off Paris FC away, watched by 250 spectators including a large following from Red Star. AGOH scored Red Stars' first after the hour, and in injury time substitute Lakrouk sealed a great 2-0 for the visitors. RED STAR 93 : Foulon, Dinto, Ouattara, Diamonde, Ekain, Diawara, Muza (Traoré 88), Agoh, Deom (Lakrouk 81), Nonopriedjou, N'Boungoum. Subs : Moutionguissa, Kachadeir. Coach : Alain Bornand.
FACE IN THE CROWD. Fousseni Diawara was present at the Porte de Montreuil to cheer on the youngsters, and in particular his brother and Red Star captain Abdoulaye. More on this and on Fousseni tomorrow. |
LOOK TO THE RESERVES FOR INSPIRATION. In these grim times for the first team, perhaps inspiration should be taken from their comrades riding high on top of the CFA 2. Captain Gérald Milton and his merry men deserve our congratulations. Christophe Fiatte has taken over from Patrice Lecornu and the progress has continued, as it always has with the second XI and it's youngsters. Cheers, lads, and ALLEZ RED STAR ! NEWS OF JEAN-LUC GIRARD. Red Stars' assistant coach and loyal servant who fell victim to a serious knee injury during a training session will undergo surgery next seek at the clinic at Champigny-sur-Marne, before undergoing a long period of rehabilitation. Our best wishes go out to Jean-Luc. |
I BELIEVE... "The run of six consecutive defeats will end one day, why not against La Roche-sur-Yon. Why can't our players be capable of stringing together a run of six straight wins ? Yes, we can beat La Roche, Valenciennes, Istres, Pacy, Dijon and Pau. The fixture list is in our favour, let's take advantage of it. Then, with thity two points with eight games left to play all is possible. The players have to be convinced of it, survival is quite possible. Allez le Red Star, I BELIEVE." EXPLAIN YOURSELVES, RED STAR. In the news over the last couple of days, two reports on the plight of the Red Star which are worth a comment and we hope, an explanation from the club, which up to date has taken the ostrich appraoch and buried it's head in the sand, hoping that everything will just go away. Crisis ? What crisis ? The second report was on Tuesday in the self-proclaimed "Bible of Football", France Football. Let's try and share Damiens' optimism. Saturday evening will be the first step. |
