Gilbert Bayiha

NOT ALL THAT BAD. Yet another Red Star youngster is leaving Marville - this time it is the turn of the reserve team goalkeeper Gilbert Bayiha, who has signed a one-year contract with first division Sedan. For the moment he will be third choice 'keeper in the Ardennes, behind the reliable Nicolas Sachy and Patrick Regnault. He will have company at his new club in the shape of another ex-Red Star man, Mickaël Natchimie. Which all goes to show that the team that took Red Star down into the CFA can't have been all that bad, if the players have mostly managed to find new clubs.
JEAN-MARC BRANGER. Jean-Marc Branger (photo, before the league cup semi-final 2000), will be joining his opponents of that day as their new goalkeeper. A move which means that Red Star no longer have a first-team goalkeeper.
Red Star - Gueugnon LE GRAET JOINS PARIS FC. Former league president Noël Le Graët, at one time linked with a move to Red Star 93 looks set to join Paris FC (CFA). More to follow.... but in the same vein, CHARLES BIETRY, head of sports coverage at France Télévision, more often than not a visitor to Red Stars' games at Marville has been appointed vice-president of another Isle-de-France club, D2 outfit Créteil.

Patrick Van Kets

BACK TO TRAINING. Red Stars' players (if they still have any, that is) will be back at work at Marville on the 11th of July, just one month before the start of the new CFA season. The first friendly has been arranged for Wednesday July 18th at Clairefontaine against Paris FC (CFA). So far Red Star have recruited two new faces, as opposed to a dozen or so departures. Next on the way out could very well be Patrick Van Kets (pictured) who seems set to join Angers (National), whilst Mohamed Benhamou, Red Stars' fourth choice goalkeeper who ended the season in style has joined Paris SG. Another youngster Mahdjoub is going to Les Lilas (CFA).
Red Stars' management have applied to be in the North group of the CFA, but with Valenciennes also being relegated to the National, the application could be in jeopardy. A decision will be taken around the second of July.
Meanwhile, Red Stars' reserves are homeless, and Christophe Fiatte is looking for a stadium in which to play their home games. Pierrefitte appears to have been ruled out of the equation. First friendly match takes place on July 21st.

Mohamed Benhamou

COUPE DE PARIS 2001. What an unforgettable season it has been for Red Star... firstly the first team is relegated, humiliated in fact from the National and the club loses its professional status, but on the other than the Reserves win their group of the CFA 2, and now the third team lift the Coupe de Paris for the first time since 1981.
The hero of the final was Mohamed Benhamou (pictured), who saved two penalties in nail-biting shoot out. At the Stade de Colombes, scene of so manu memorable finals, a tense affair ended 0-0 after extra time. Red Star had dominated the game against Sannois-Saint Gratien, without finding the important opening. Ryad Fellahi (30th minute), a tantalising cross from Fabrice Mary, a header from Gomes-Varela (63), a powerful drive by Pendola (94) and one minute later a header from Saïti all failed to pass the Val d'Oise teams' goalkeeper. Finally it was deceided on penalties, and as Saint-Gratien missed their fourth effort, Red Stars' players jumped for joy with the victory. Congratulations to the youngsters.

He undewent trials during May and has signed. He is a defensive midfielder along the lines of Dider Deschamps. Also having trials were Boumenjel from Algeria and Les Lilas defender Chris Assignamey. One bright hope is the Moissy-Cramayel striker Chaïb Daoud, aged 25, who scored twenty odd goals last season in the CFA 2. Training starts again from the 29th of June, with a training camp in the country on the cards. Season starts 11th of August. PRICE JOLIBOIS, meanwhile has signed with D1 outfit Bastia (D 1).
RELEGATIONS. Créteil and Cannes have been reprived, so they will play next season in D2 and the National respectively. On the other hand, GFCO Ajaccio have been booted out from the National into the CFA, meaning that Calais will be promoted, and Evry of CFA 2 have been relegated to the DH.
Stade Bauer BAUER DEMONSTRATION . A hundred or so Red Star supporters turned up for the demonstration on the 9th of June at Saint-Ouen to campaign for the saving of Stade Bauer. Claude Chazottes, president of the ex-players association spoke of a slow death for the club if it did not return to its mythic stadium, and announced the allocation by the Town Council of 2 MF (305 000 €) for the refurbishment of the "new" stand (photo). A fact we announced a month ago on this site. Several politicians of various political persuasions had their say, the general drift of matters appeared to be in support of the return to Stade Bauer. A correction was made by a politician to one of the main arguments of the leaflet handed out to supporters at the Louhans game - the tract claimed that Red Star had been moved out of the traditional home. What it failed to state, however, is that fact that Red Star and the council knew long before that Stade Bauer was becoming unsuitable for the requirements, safety and otherwise of modern football. In 1998, the Town Hall began the process of paving the way for the rebuilding of the old ground. Designs were tendered for, plans were drawn up with various agencies, then with the signing of the deal only days away, president Bras decided to throw his hat in with a bid for the Stade de France. So, instead of Red Star moving to Marville on a temporary basis as was the plan, whilst Bauer was rebuilt, the club is stuck in a poor stadium with little hope of getting out.
A notable absentee at the demo was Red Star president Jean-Claude Bras.
