On the 27th April 1946, for the last time, Red Star won their way to a Coupe de France final.
In a topsy-turvy match in Lille, the Audoniens under coach Edmond Delfour, snatched a victory from Stade Français, a parisian derby which took place in the north. Elsewhere at Colombes, Lille beat Stade Clermontois,a D2 club 7-1, including a goal scored by Roger Vandooren who later went on to play for Red Star (season 1956-57).
In the Paris derby, Red Star opened the scoring with an own goal by the unlucky Grillon as early as the sixth minute. Two minutes later with the Stadistes fired up, the equaliser came through Mandaluniz. Moments later, it was 1-2 in favour of Stade Français, a goal scored by Luciano. Red Star then had to wait until the 33rd minute before captain Paul Bersoullé drew the scores level. Then in the dying seconds Bersoullé gave the game its fairytale ending by scoring the decisive goal which sent Red Star to a cup final on the 26th May.
