PARIS FC - OPPONENTS OF RED STAR 93

PARIS FC 2000

By Gérard Valck

Founded 1970. Stade Charléty (22000 places), Paris. Coach : Jean-Pierre Carayon.
The Paris Saint-Germain Football Club, as originally called was concocted by the Conseil Fédéral de la Ligue, and was immediately allocated a place in D2. In this first guise, coacehd by Pierre Phelippon, alongside player Jean-Claude Bras were Camille Choquier, Jean Djorkaeff, Robert Mitoraj, Jean-Pierre Destrumelle, Bernard Guignedoux and Michel Prost.
PARIS FC stayed in Division One from 1971 until 1974, before returning to D2 until 1978 and one season in D1. Then followed an agonizing slide - D2, D3, D4 to the Division d'honneur in 1987.Eventually the club dragged itself back to the level of the National, where it finished 9th last season.
A large budget (17 millions de F) with one objective - the D2. However, after ten games, yet another crisis and a place in the relegation frame. Crisis are becoming the norm for the club and its' president-politician Didier Bariani.
However, during the Summer break the club spent and brought in several big names : a dozen players arrived, including Beaumet, Schreiner (Niort), Lima, Mota (Racing) and more importantly, a move to the superb (if somewhat draughty) Stade Charléty from their old base at the Porte de Montreuil.
Honours - D2 champions 1970-71
Paris FC featured in the cup semi finals in 1980, the games played on a home and away leg basis.
Several ex-Red Star players have featured for both camps - Jean-Claude Bras, Michel Prost, Claude Chazottes, Georges Eo, Zaïr Kedadouche, Michel Drouilhat, Jean-Jacques Almorfini.....
