Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, AS Poissy competed at the higher levels of Parisin football until 1968, in a fine stadium built by the municipality with the aid of carmakers Ford. In 1968 a deal was signed with the town's biggest employer, Simca. Roger Quenolle, ex-international Poissy-Red Star, 1978 took over the club. From 1969 to 1983, he led the club into D3 and even spent one season in the heady heights of D2, 1977-78). Currently the club plays in the CFA 2, along with the reserves of Red Star 93. Coached by Eric Dewilder, the club are aiming for promotion. After seven games they lie second in the table behind their cup visitors, and can claim to be the only side to have taken points from Red Star reserves this season (a 1-1 draw).

Poissy have on several occasions starred in the Coupe de France. In 1951, 53 and 54, the club reached the 1/32 finals stage. In 1972 the club from the Yvelines were eliminated from the last sixteen of the cup by Nancy, 0-2 and 1-8. For the return game at Poissy, 5 945 turned out at the Stade Léo Lagrange. Playing that day for Poissy was a young player under the name of Gérard Soler, later to join Sochaux and to achieve international status. Nowadays he is better known as the President of Saint-Etienne.

1981 saw another good cup run, Quenolles' men falling to Le Havre 0-0 and 0-1 after having eliminated Toulouse en route. In 1996, Châteauroux (D2) put paid to a brave Poissy side at Lagrange. Dewilder will be hoping for success against a failing Red Star side on Saturday. For the record, on the 28th January 1978, at the 1/32 final stage, Roger Lemerres' Red Star had to go into extra time in order to beat Poissy, this time on neutral ground at Versailles.
