12th last term in the National. Pre-season quiet, due in part to limited finances.

Since falling from D1 five years ago Angers have been through more rough patches than good times. This season the aim of the club is to consolidate in the National before pushing for promotion in the not-too-distant future. D2 corresponds more accurately with the standing of a town like Angers. Since turning pro Angers have spent twenty years in the top flight, culminating in a third place spot in 1966-67.
In the championship the two clubs have met 34 times, (14 in D1, 20 in D2). Angers have the upper hand of encounters in D1 (won nine, drew four, lost one), in D2 Red Star dominate slightly (won eleven, four draws and lost nine). Over the last ten matches, however, Red Star have been to the fore (6 wins, 2 draws, 2 defeats)
Happy memories for the current Red Star boss are from the 30th November several years ago when under coach Robert Herbin, Red Star beat Angers, the then leaders of D2, 1-0. The winning goal, a real beauty, was scored by none other than current Red Star coach Jean-Luc Girard..Also in the line-up of Red Star was defender Alain Gunia, now with Angers, who spent seven seasons at Stade Bauer, scoring four goals.
