Thouars are veterans of the National and last season the club from Deux Sèvres avoided the drop (finished 14th) with some difficulty, but took Paris Saint-Germain to extra time in the French Cup.
Many of the current players are products of the youth policy of the big clubs.
Thouars are a team which does not travel very well, and their top scorer last term with 8 goals was Patrice Sauvaget.
Whilst four players arrived during the summer namely Bordot (Le Mans), Maubert (Laval), Stinat (Bordeaux) and Georges Da Silva, a striker from Louhans-Cuiseaux loaned out last week, seven have quit the club.
A famous old boy of Thouars is current Rennes captain Stéphane Grégoire.
The main aimsof Thouars is to avoid the drop from the National, but judging by their current start to the season (yet to win a game) it could be a long and difficult season. Red Star 93 be warned, however, Thierry Goudets' boys will be out for the win. In addition, sometimes it can be hard to put together back-to-back wins at home.
This is the first time that the two clubs have met, as was the case versus Fréjus and Raon-l'Etape. With the same outcome, one hopes.
