DISAPPOINTING, RED STAR

Not exactly the best way of welcoming back the fans to Stade Bauer after their Summer holidays. Red Star gave somewhat of an half-hearted performance against a well-organised Oissel outfit. A draw might have been a fair rsult, given Azzedine Benmesmoudis' thumping volley which hit the crossbar before rebounding to safety. But other than that, and another bicycle kick from Benmesmoudi straight into the welcoming arms of Tchimas, the vsitors' keeper, Red Star never really created a clear-cut chance in this game. One again, just as they were prone to do in the DH, Red Star were flattened by a killer goal at an important stage in the second half, some poor marking and a woeful defensive clearance letting in the impressive Bezzou on the right hand flank to fire in a powerful shot into the top of Yan Bells' goal.
Out of the two keepers, Bell was the busiest, his counterpart in the Oissel goal mostly having to deal with hopeful crosses and miscued corners. Oissel had done their homework on Benmesmoudi... in fact the only time that the Red Star man managed to elude his marker was to rattle the crossbar as mentioned earlier.
On the positive side, Kaba Diomande astounded his critics with an accomplished performance, but was once again missing from his left defensive berth when Oissel scored. His crossfield pass however for Benmesmoudi in the crossbar incident was inch-perfect. Yann Bell was called upon to save his team and performed admirably, whilst Reevis N'Simba in midfield showed that he has the class for the CFA 2. Nabile Yessad raided down the right on numerous occasions, and performed well in defence, but two rash tackeles truncated his contribution to the game, seeing red in just after the hour. By then Red Star were one down against a well-organised opponent and the task was made more difficult by the sending off.
Elsewhere some very indifferent performances; Tounkara was exposed on more than one occasion, but covered well by the experienced Fourneuf; in midfield Sinobad never got into the game and really should have been replaced by Cuervo much sooner - Phils' experience and power might have got Red Star back into the game. Davison was capable of both the best and the worst - some nice overlapping runs, taking on defenders only for to produce a sub-standard cross. Never mind, as with Eyhtrib, the best is yet to come. Ouattara was the same at the same stage of last season.
Not the end of the world, one defeat, but Red Star must learn from the experience.
