Heads up in front of the Armentières goal

JUST NOT QUITE GOOD ENOUGH

Red Stars' promotion push faltered against lowly Armentières on Saturday at Bauer, but other than the lack of goals the one event that sill remain in the memories will be the unmerited red card for Red Stars' lively winger Davidson and the subsequent pitch invasion by two home "supporters".
Red Star dominated this one, the gulf in class between the two sides was truly enormous and had it not been for some wayward finishing then the visitors would have been buried before the interval. But as is wont with Red Star, a combination of bad luck and plain poor finishing kept the score blank. Yann Bell was kept busy too, despite a resolute defensive performance by Fourneuf, Hammami, Diomande and Tounkara. The latter finally appears to have got the message about poor defensive clearances, and welted a couple of beauties into the stands rather than back to the feet of the opponents' strikers. As the gloom set in, Red Star regained the dressing rooms at half time none the better for their efforts.
In the second half, despite early domination by the visitors, Red Star and in particular Davidson started to get their act together. In fact the fleet-footed winger started to pose real questions of the waning Armentières full back until the moment of drama when Davidson was a tad bit too late in his tackle and the number two fell as if poleaxed to the ground. Thus followed a bit of push and shove, prompted in no small way by the visitors' number six Noclin. Although less virulent than the Viry incident last weekend, a couple of nob heads from Red Stars' less mentally stable fringe decided that they would vault the pitch-side fences and join in, but fortunately were prevented from aggravating the situation.
After the dust had settled, Red Star were constrained the continue the game with ten men and Davidson was sent to warm the showers up. A cruel blow for Red Star, but a stroke of good luck for Armentières. Or was it planned ?
The dismissal fired up Red Star, and the ten sound men rallied. Armentières were swamped but again a lack of finishing prowess ensured the nil nil stayed intact. Doumbya in particular was guilty of wasting several good chances. In the build ups, Red Star were impressive, especially Abdallah, Hammami, Diomande and Fourneuf, while Grégori Sinobad had probably his best game so far for Red Star, and he didn't even get booked !
Disappointing, but on the positive side Red Star kept a clean sheet and never looked in danger of conceding one. Pity about the two nob heads, though...
